He's heavily railroaded into obscurity in DBZ and DBGT from being someone who was considered top tier up until Cell to a side character who does virtually nothing outside of occasionally die. Tien, a mainstay in Dragonball, gets it even worse.

Honestly, now thinking about it, I kind of disagree with Piccolo having it as bad you say he does. Sure, he doesn't really win any fights anymore, but when was the last time Piccolo actually won a fight even during his shining moments in DBZ? At his very best, he managed to "win" against second form Frieza, put up a semi-decent match against third form Frieza before losing, and his other best moment is in the Android saga when he tied against Android 17. You can make the argument that even Z railroaded Piccolo since the Saiyan saga because the only major villain he actually killed was Raditz (as far as I know).

Honestly, I'm rather impressed with Piccolo's character because he enters fights he knows he can't win but fights them anyway. A good example being the whole Beerus vs Champa tournament when he was paired up against Frost and actually did fairly well until Frost pulled a cheap shot on him. In that sense, I don't really consider it a downgrade.

I think you misunderstood my post, i said I was glad Piccolo and Tien haven't been railroaded in Super like they were in Z/GT.

The Gohan thing is a mess, when you think about how he was when he fought Buu only a few in canon months prior to how he is now it's insane.

In regards to Z, Piccolo is stated as being stronger than Cell in their first encounter, stronger than either 19 or 20 and stronger than 18 whilst matching 17. Vegeta even states Piccolo is notably stronger than his SSJ form after Piccolo's first encounter with Cell. Yet, despite being a constantly present character in the Buu Saga, Piccolo fights Buu zero times, that's less than Tien and even Hercule.

But yeah I'm just mostly upset with Gohan's character in Super. It's already bad enough in the Buu saga where he failed to make any significant impact (even when he was Ultimate Gohan he had a chance to kill Super Buu and failed to do so), but now he just... doesn't even really try to fight anymore.

The whole Ress. of F Saga where Gohan, Piccolo and Tien seemed to have trouble with Frieza's henchmen was weird really. If we're going strictly from canon, Piccolo and Tien have spent nearly every day since the end of Dragonball training, both managed to stand up to Cell (Piccolo comfortably taking on base Cell and Tien holding back Semi perfect Cell) and Tien survived Buu's global extermination attack whereas Popo, Krillen, Tien, Videl, Roshi and numerous others all died. Gohan obviously easily handled Perfect Cell and could of destroyed Super Buu if he wasn't been cocky, but the three of them were having as much trouble as Krillen and Roshi with Frieza's low end goons?
