How did you get into anime and/or manga?

Hmmm... thanks to pokemon! But the first time I knew about pokemon, i thought it was from the states...

I did that too! I thought it was an American cartoon till I got online and found out otherwise. So it was my first anime.

For manga I bought Kare Kano because the anime leaves you hanging because it was never finished and then I fell in love with manga.

Samurai Pizza Cats was the first anime that I saw, or at least the first anime that I can remember watching. I guess I really got into anime the same way a lot of people my age in the U.S. did, watching stuff like Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, Digimon, Pokemon and Sailor Moon on Toonami, Kids WB and Fox Kids. Dragon Ball Z was probably the first show that I actively became a fandom member of. I still remember buying those old tapes that had 2 or 3 episodes on them, back before fansubbing was wide spread.

As for manga, again, Dragon Ball, it was the first series I bought and followed.

The first one I seriously got into was Sailor Moon...and the rest is history.

I forgot exactly, but I remember an AMV called Kin of the Stars, which is about two years old and is still on YouTube; and yes, I do know what anime it's made with. After that I remember talking to Hayate (member here and long-time internets friend of mine) about blood and violence in anime, and from that I began to watch my first anime: Elfen Lied. Nothing better than that particular one for giving a lasting first impression. xD

Well it all started out when I was just a big fan of Kingdom Hearts, but for a while i notice something that there were Anime, because before I thought Anime was stupid but I got into it instead. And by then I started to be a Anime searcher watcher of searching well known Anime tv shows and watch them to see if I like them. For Manga history, I got in to it of reading all Kingdom Hearts 1 series and KH COM Manga.

Pokemon was my very first one. I liked it a lot because of the art. After watching countless Disney movies, I had to admit that had amazing animation. So after watching that, I went on the internet to research more and more and watch anime on Cartoon Network. So what captivated me was the art and animation. ^^

Pokemon for anime addiction, and Ceres: Celestial Legend as well as Tokyo Mew Mew got me into manga.

Watching Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon is what got me into anime, and reading Naruto is what got me into manga.

Dragonball Z was the first anime I ever got into. After that I became completely obsessed and have been ever since then. I also have a yaoi obssession that started with a yaoi manga I picked up in a store one day.

Oh, as for my yuri obssesion, Sailor Moon and Utena started it. >_>

Hai~ Pokemon, Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z were my staples for a long time when it came to anime, them being the first three series I remember watching anyway.

As for manga, I was never really into it until about two-three years ago, when my cousin gave me all 12 volumes of Cardcaptor Sakura.

The anime that introduced me to the rest of the anime scene was probably Fruits Basket, but my first actual anime fandom was Yu Yu Hakusho, hands down. But when I was watching Yu Yu Hakusho, I wasn't really aware that it was an 'anime'. :<

And then what got me into manga... Definitely the Pokemon Adventures/PokeSpecial manga, with Blue and Green and Red and Silver and Gold and Crystal, etc. etc. That was the big thing that brought me back to Pokemon, along with my ex-avid-contest-shipper attitude.

Yu Yu Hakusho (or Ghost Fighters, as it's known in the Philippines), Flame of Recca, Akazukin Cha Cha and Dragonball Z. I think those were the first anime I watched, dubbed in Tagalog. I had no idea what 'anime' was at the time, but these were my favourite shows, and I still remember having an argument with my brother about who will win the tournament in Yu Yu Hakusho x___o

For manga, I think that started when, out of curiosity, I bought an issue of Shonen Jump. I enjoyed reading all the different manga inside (particularly Naruto >.>), so I searched on the internet about that stuff. And tada~

well i got into manga and anime because of my father....my dad is an anime fab too...xD
well my first animes we're dragon ball, pokemon, doraemon, mojacko, sailormoon...dubbed in our lang...just like her^...childhood times except dbz and pokemon...

and my first manga was onepiece...well i just searched it and tada~~ i even already watched naruto even it's not yet aired on our local tv...because of that...wohoo..

I got into it through Pokemon. I was in year six when Pokemon was all the rage and I watched the anime, collected the cards, played the games, drew the Pokemon and listened to the music. I was obsessed with it and most of my money that I got from my parents went on Pokemon stuff. I suppose thats how I got into it. I enjoyed things like Digimon, Beyblade, Shaman king and when the rage passed I still hadn't had enough of Pokemon and continued to play it and stuff. I got board of it soon after but still loved the style it wasn't long before I found out that there was a whole genre dedicated to this sort of thing and when I was finally earning my own money I went mad on the things that I had wanted for years and I bought a heep load of manga/anime and anime related games XD Not to mention a whole load of money on Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh cards XP

I got into anime because of (surprise, surprise) Pokemon! I think it's pretty obvious why, though I thought Pokemon came from US and not from Japan.

I got into manga because of my big bro... He liked to collect manga (especially Japanese ones) and I got into it too!

Pokémon was definitely the starting point for me. While most of my other friends were busy obsessing over The Backstreet Boys and N*Sync, I... was off playing Blue (my first game) with my brother and his friends. XD Then one day I stumbled across a VHS tape of the series at our library, and immediately recognized Pikachu on the cover so I decided to check it out. I was completely hooked from then on.

I never really paid much attention to the animation (I was what, 8 or 9?) but I knew it looked different than the American cartoons I was used to. About that time, my brother discovered DBZ so we'd watch it a lot together. Then there were the other shows like Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon, Digimon, Monster Rancher, etc. that were aired on TV. I can't remember how I found out they were all from Japan and called "anime" (which I pronounced completely wrong)... but I think it was from a magazine.

As for manga, Magical Pokémon Journey was my very first. I was obsessed with it so much. XD; Then I got hooked on the, er, heavily edited Toshihiro Ono series that Viz released. I'm pretty sure that Tokyo Mew Mew was the first non-Pokémon manga I bought back in 2003.

Well I only really got into anime and manga about 2 years ago. When I was younger I used to really enjoy shows like Dragonball Z and stuff like that, but back then I didn't know it was called Anime. Then about 2 years ago, a friend of mine who was really into Anime and manga, showed me what manga was and showed me different types of anime which is how I got into Anime and Manga.
