How do certain Water-type Pokémon survive outside of the water?

    Of course, this question applies to Water-type Pokémon based on creatures that need water to survive, such as fish, bivalves, jellyfish, and so on. In Pokémon games such as Pokémon Sword and Shield, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon that live in the water seem to be limited to the water. Even when they chase you, they don't seem to be able to chase you beyond the water. However, when you catch a Water-type Pokémon, fish Pokémon and other Water-type Pokémon based on creatures that need water to survive can follow you around outside the water. They even look as if they're swimming in invisible water. However, in the anime, I have seen Water Pokémon look helpless outside the water, such as Misty's Goldeen and pretty much any Magikarp.

    Solved this in Pokemon Ranger in the Temple of the Sea by putting them in water bubbles.

    Showed two Luvdiscs fighting on land (partially) in Pokemon Chronicles Episode 16 too. (Disclaimer: Saw a clip. May have missed something.) Started in the water. Pushed one of them up with Water Gun. Landed on solid ground...right next to the other Luvdisc, now also mysteriously on land. Proceeded to not move after that. Froze a Shadow Ball, perhaps because of that fact.

    Another case: Shellder in Season 2, Episode 12 (The Evolution Solution). Somehow hops across a beach to chase Slowpoke.

    Never really goes into the details, though. (Recalls nothing like that, anyways.) Assumes some handwavy reason for Water Pokemon following you while floating along the same lines of land-based Pokemon getting rafts in the water.

    definitely something that has been done here and there but ultimately is a "just is" thing. Im think alot about the mystery dungeon games and yeah all fish type pokemon just float. You'd THINK they do something like with the little floaty they gave to land pokemon to fight on water but no

    lol, I just imagine them floating when out of the water and able to survive there with no issues... or at least in the games given that's what it looks like in battle. I know in the anime they aren't usually summoned without a body of water nearby. Devalue's water bubbles reminder is probably the better way for me to envision it though :D;
