Of course, this question applies to Water-type Pokémon based on creatures that need water to survive, such as fish, bivalves, jellyfish, and so on. In Pokémon games such as Pokémon Sword and Shield, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon that live in the water seem to be limited to the water. Even when they chase you, they don't seem to be able to chase you beyond the water. However, when you catch a Water-type Pokémon, fish Pokémon and other Water-type Pokémon based on creatures that need water to survive can follow you around outside the water. They even look as if they're swimming in invisible water. However, in the anime, I have seen Water Pokémon look helpless outside the water, such as Misty's Goldeen and pretty much any Magikarp.
