How do you get to know about Pokemon?

    How do you come to know about the world of Pokemon? Do you ever grow bored of Pokemon?
    How obsessed are you with Pokemon? What is your favourite Pokemon? Why do you like it?

    For me, I came into the world of Pokemon when the game was first released as Pokemon Red.
    I proceeded to watch the animes, collect the Pokemon cards etc.

    I quit Pokemon for awhile due to religious influences from extreme sources who claimed Pokemon is of the devil.
    Recently, I got back into Pokemon again through the trading card game.

    My favourite Pokemon has to be Charlizard. I like it because it looked cool, breathed fire and is a powerful Pokemon.
     
    Learned about it from a sibling's friend who had the game. Bought Pokemon Red sometime after that.

    Polled a question about how you got into Pokemon a few months ago, as an aside. Received 13 responses for Anime, 12 for a game, 2 for the trading card game (physical or digital), and 2 others.

    Bored: Grew more and more indifferent with the series starting in Generation 3. Continued into Generation 6. Rekindled that interest after watching someone play a Nuzlocke. (Could have been from a 2v2 competitive catching game with Wonder Trades also.) Saw that with relatively good timing. Scoffed at X/Y's difficulty with the Experience Share on. Made perfect sense to turn it off (and come up with other ways to increase the difficulty). Has not been bored since.

    Obsessed: Not really. Enjoys Pokemon a lot, sure. Does not go too much further than that. Was more into it when younger.

    Favorite: Espeon :espeon:. Looks pretty cat-like and has a nice color. Favors mind over muscle, in the more abstract sense. (Thread for Favorite Pokemon: The stickied thread here, at the top of General.)
     
    Iirc I was introduced to the TCG during the Pokemon craze in elementary school back in the 90s. Not long after that I went to the games with RBY and kinda dropped the TCG for a really long time. I still favor the games over the TCG but do somewhat collect the TCG again.

    I tend to just come and go when it comes to playing Pokemon.

    I don't remember the specifics anymore, but I got into Pokemon when I was a kid. This was around the time Red/Blue released internationally and it was a big thing, tons of kids were into it, and so naturally I did too. I'm certainly not on the level of "obsessed", but the mainline games have been a constant in my life and I don't see that changing anytime soon, even though I've had issues with games for generations now and will go stretches of time without playing them at all. And I've been here on PC for a decade and probably will be for years to come.

    My most favorite Pokemon is Zekrom.

    the pokemon black and white anime got me into it i was 6 at the time i think! fast forward 10 years later and i am still obsessed hehe

    and my favorite pokemon is vaporeon! aquatic fox cat go brrrr
     
    Started with classmates in elementary being into it and recommending I watch/play, so I did! It helped me learn English since I was a new immigrant to the US at the time. Everyone played the games (gen 1 and 2 were the only ones available at the time), had cards, toys, books etc, and watched the anime, I just couldn't not get into it myself. It's changed my life a lot since :'D
     
    My brother introduced me to it. Pokémon Diamond, I think it was over the summer in 2010. It was the first major thing I remember getting obsessed with, and I still love it to this day. Of course, there have been some moments where my interest waned a bit, but I could never, EVER abandon this series that has brought me so much joy in my life :love:
     
    I'm a first-hour fan from 1999/2000, when every kid at school started showing up with this Game Boy and this game and so quickly and suddenly BAM, everyone was a Pokémon maniac :')
    And since then, it's a passion that never really went away, at most it tuned down during the gen5-to-7 era, when I cared about the game but wasn't terribly involved.
    I tried competitive building in gen3, but lack of cheats, internet info, and whatnot, made it very tough, and never really attended a tournament.
    Got into romhacking almost by chance, and it became my greatest hobby ever :)
     
    I blame high school. :p

    Someone showed up with the cartridge back in 1998, soon there were a few people with the games and having Link Cable battles. Since by that time the games were in our market in English, I was asked to help translate and explain some stuff (primarily, what attacks did what).

    Eventually that progressed quite far, up until about three quarters of the school year I found myself managing an underground Pokémon battle ring over the PCs at the lab with No$GBA and Pokémon Red.

    From there I got a GBA and, well, things exploded. I'm here now.
