    Get-Together 12 - PokeCommunity Olympics
    How'd we do?

The Get-Together is over and events are being finished! While you wait for medal totals to be tallied and see which region won glory for their people, let us know how we did! Which were some of your favorite events? Which events from previous years did you miss? Anything you'd like to see next time?

Thanks for coming out, everyone. The involvement of you all makes this worthwhile and we so appreciate your participation and enjoyment.

    7.8/10 too many events

lol. It was sad to simply not have time to participate in all the events that I wanted to. Also, because of how it was set up as a competition . . . I completely ignored all the "For Fun" events. Didn't even look at any of them. I don't know if I'm the only one in that boat haha.

There's a lot of writing events, especially with the entire RPOs, and, for me at least, writing is just so time consuming. I love it, but I can't just do it and be satisfied with it. Imo the RPOs should be their own thing and RPT should just have one or two events for representation in future Get-Togethers.

I enjoyed the Pokémon Battling Tournament, I liked the YGO representation (always up for a reason to duel haha), and I thought that the Pokélections were a very neat idea, though I ended up not having time to participate in them. I liked the PPC as always (and as always I didn't even place lol), and ofc I enjoyed (and still am) Gods Among Us because mafia is currently expanding into an ever darkening abyss that's trying to consume my entire life, buuuuut whatever. c:

and then there's gunner's stupid trivia contest omg I hate trivia and that was ridiculous lol. luv ya gunner <3

But you have two more weeks :s.

I agree... it should be longer. It seems like such a short amount of time to have it. Plus, it takes a while for events to close up and what not. I do think we should have more events that everyone can do as well. Not just contest threads, but I think it would be fun if there was some sort of pokemon trade event for those who have XY/ORAS unless there was, and I just completely overlooked it. I know most of the events are based on skill-set... but that's the thing. Shouldn't the get together be for everyone? Whether your a newbie or an expert? Just saying.

This was my first GT event and I liked it :)
It were way too many events though. I could only participate in like 4 events.
I liked the Egg Swapping Event the most :)

With the amount of events we had, I definitely agree that the GT should've lasted a bit longer than just a week. I didn't really participate in a lot of the events, but I can imagine that it might be a bit stressful for members looking to participate in as many as possible to find time to do everything, and for some hosts to manage everything within a week.

One thing that could help this as well would be allowing people to sign-up for events that require it before the GT starts. The League of Legends tournament could've definitely used the extra time that was spent on sign-ups, so yeah.

Also, I was sad to see the lack of a singing contest this year. It's been my favourite event from previous years, and it's an event that's seemed to be here every year, so I thought it was a shame to not see it around this time D:

Other than that, I enjoyed whatever I did manage to participate in, although there weren't a lot of events this year I was particularly interested in participating in.

*inb4 the biggest team is crowned best team*

Anyways, this Get-Together had a lot of flaws for me, and it's usually an event I can never integrate myself in that much to begin with because there's always a lack of events that draw interest from me, and that's because I'm concerned about internet speed and also the fact there's too much Nintendo gaming competitions, and my family did not grow up in that family of games.

I did enter the Prettiest Profile Contest and Pokelections, but I sucked terribly in both. My profile entry sadly failed to make the cut, showing me that complex designs are hugely preferred over the simpler ones, and the theme chosen was extremely hard to pull off as well. The latter got a bit hard with all those questions plus it didn't help that the team with the most members (I know which team you think it is) landed a clean sweep.

So, while it was a fun concept it sadly ended as my worst Get-Together because my fear of failure got the better of me, not counting 2011 because I was unable to participate in that one.

2/10. Here's hoping 2016 does a much better job, such as an easier PPC theme.

I'm going go all out and say it: this was the best GT I've taken part in since GT7. It was great. :D It was organised really well. Event-wise - it changes every year! All depends on who volunteers for what - it's not really anyone's fault that a certain event that was here last year wasn't this year.

As a whole, I've really enjoyed it. Well done everyone ~

One thing that could help this as well would be allowing people to sign-up for events that require it before the GT starts.

This. I remember having a sign-up period before some events and it was really beneficial to a lot of events. Egg Swap works way better with a sign-up period. Perhaps the weekend before the GT, we could open for sign-ups? That could work.

    This was my first one that I've ever attended (Me being a dead member withstanding and whatnot) but it was pretty fun! I feel how everyone else does with the time limit though. I couldn't even duel as much as I wanted with the YGO event since I work so much D;

Enjoyable overall, though. I had fun. Looking forward to the next one!

AND WHERE WAS MY DESKTOP COMPETITION, I WANTED TO WIN THAT YO

This was my first GT, but I found it to be quite enjoyable. I think some of the events could have been a little more organized, like finishing on the deadlines originally set, but that's really my only concern. Maybe in the future since we have TCG events for Yu-Gi-Oh! we could do a MTG event as well?

    8.5/10

My favorite event was the egg swap. That had a good community and I like how it had a pretty decent sized turn out :)

It's been a lot of fun! I'm happy there were so many events to choose from, but at the same time I understand when a lot of people said that there were so many different events it was kinda daunting.

I think making it a little longer with this many events, and also maybe a different form of organization. I think a long sticky post with a small visual banner and a paragraph for each event would have been nice to go through, as some events I didn't actually see till later! Kind of like when you have club sign-up days in college, you get a small area to "pitch" your event and people can get a quick synopsis of what events will be coming (a little ahead would be cool) and what they have to offer.

As always, the Get-Together is my favorite time of year around PC, and I hope that we have more and more as time goes along :) Now I will say that the GT did in fact feel shorter than it had in the past, but at the same time, there was a lot more going on. Maybe we should have more time next time around, that way more events have time to complete during the actual duration of the whole GT.

I need to credit the Get Together for drawing me out of my semi-hibernation here and actually get involved. And I did participate in about twice as many events as I did last year.

With that said, I didn't care for the "Olympics" theme to it this year. I didn't like being shoehorned into choosing one of the Pokemon game regions when I don't particularly hold a strong loyalty to, or, prefer, any of them. Not to mention that there wasn't much of a team atmosphere besides, "region name now appears on each of your posts." And, many of the events were off-limits to me since they had specific themes that also revolved around the overall "Olympic" theme, and watching paint dry is more exciting for me than the real-life Olympics .

Events were still enjoyable and I was more active than during last year's, so I still count it a success. Now to see if I placed in any of the events lol

First of all I want to say I really enjoyed the Get Together. There were so many awesome events that I couldn't take part in all of them.

I agree the competition part is nice, but as you don't really know your team members, there's not much of a team spirit. Just having one DCC solely for your region would probably have been a nice way to get to know people. Although this splits up the userbase in six chats, the competition can repeatedly heat up the conversation, which will make the chat survive.

Yeah I really missed a Team Chat as well for the regions. Would have been nice to know the people in your team.

Teams should be more even, with a limited pool, once a certain amount is hit (of people that want to be involved in GT) - roughly 50 from each team then that's 300 people willing to play ball, and teams will be a load farer. Unova only had about 12 people participating overall compared to Hoenn/Johto which had basically everyone, so with that said the smaller teams had literally no chance because overall the bronze/silver medals will add up from all the others, etc. The team atmosphere made the GT worth participating in (normally I wouldn't really bother as much). But yeah... and maybe have the community vote for more events (by having a notice up the top when an event needs your vote) so that everyone's really involved... and an easier way to plan out team strategy. Hikari and I were pming but that's about all we had really to plan out stuff. A team discussion place would defs be appreciated. Also agreeing with less olympics-based themes (and more events like breeding/bug catching contest/encyclopedia/egg swap). They were so creative and soooo much fun, so more things like that would be awesome (plus the middle got a load of participants so people clearly love that sorta stuff). Maybe even a race to shinies or something. But yeah more in-game stuff would be awesome for next get together rather than the "staples" that we tend to have.

General consensus is that the event should be longer. I agree. GT12 ended when GAU was barely on the second night. Trying to squeeze entries and voting into a single week is a bit difficult, too. I'd be more for a format that gives:

    1 week for signups/participation/entries
    4 days for judging/voting/emblem design

for any event that applies, namely, PPC, SWC, Song Parodies, the Blog-Off.

This way it's a little more organized in that everyone knows when they should enter and when they shouldn't. A lot of events had some trouble dealing with people not knowing dates or making submissions when they weren't supposed to.

The teams definitely needed better balancing, or maybe team Hoenn was just really good... More or less, i found the event fun and entertaining :). I really wish i could have participated more, but this week falls on a pretty busy time for me every year, hence why i couldn't join in on much. I really liked the build competition as i had a lot of fun conversations with PC members while building. Playing the Arcade Olympics and the GT Pokemon challenge was enjoyable too, i just didn't have enough time to do much with them.

Maybe i'll try to figure an event for mystery dungeon next year, I think it could work out if psmd ends up better than Gates.
