Music I hate your favourite artist. Give me three songs to change my mind.

I love the idea for this thread! I really need to branch out more musically.

I'd not heard those first two Taylor Swift songs in quite some time, and I'd never heard the last one and I quite liked it!

I do have Taylor's 1989 CD and enjoy it, I just quickly get tired of the songs I hear constantly on the radio!

Here's some Fiona Apple for you!
Spoiler:

I don't really have one favorite artist in particular, but here are some that I really like

Bon Iver
If you don't like Bon Iver I probably can't change your mind by having you listen to some of their stuff, but I'll try my best. :D

1. Blood Bank
Probably the most accessible song in Bon Iver's discography considering Justin Vernon doesn't use much falsetto in this song. Nonetheless it's a great song imo and one of my favorites by the "band".

2. I Can't Make You Love Me/Nick of Time
On the opposite side of the spectrum we have a song where Justin Vernon goes falsetto pretty much the whole time. It is a cover, but listening to his vocals combined with that piano is just so god damn heartwrenching.

3. The Wolves pt. I & II
Here's one of the weirdest songs that Bon Iver has ever made, but in my humble opinion one of their best. The weirdly perfect use of autotune combined with Justin Vernon's falsetto creates for a very strange, but great song.

Kendrick Lamar
If you don't like Kendrick then you probably just don't like rap music...

1. Sing of Me, I'm Dying of Thirst
One of the greatest things about hip-hop as a genre is the ability to tell a story with a song and this one is one of the finer examples of this in recent memory. I linked a lyric video so you can see the lyrics while you listen along so you can get everything. Just some background, the first verse is from the POV the brother of one Kendrick's friends that was killed due to gang violence. The second verse is from the POV the angry sister of a young woman Kendrick wrote a song about on his last album. The third verse is from his own perspective. He wraps this all up in a catchy beat which is pretty amazing. Honestly, I don't think any rapper other than maybe J Cole come close to Kendrick rightnow.

2. How Much a Dollar Cost?
The beat is a little weak in this one, but the lyrics are pretty great. One of the more clever rap songs to come out in the past couple years.

3. King Kunta
Just put this one here cause I love this song and if you don't like Kendrick by now you probably won't like him. Maybe cause this song doesn't sound anything like what other rappers are putting out you might like it, I don't know.

I have a couple here...

NEEDTOBREATHE
1. Stones Over Rushing Water
2. Something Beautiful
3. Haley

...On second thought, I can pretty much swap in any song they've ever written at every spot on this list. I'm not biased or anything though....

Nathan Sharp (NateWantsToBattle)
1. Dawn of the Third Day
2. Salvaged
3. Nightmare

This will probably change as I get more acquainted with his new album. I also think his parodies and covers are brilliant too, but that seems a little unfair to use as examples as to why he's awesome.

Witt Lowry
1. Kindest Regards
2. Move On
3. Used to You

Would also recommend Running from Here, Haunted, Rescue, and So Many Nights.

don't need three to convince someone to listen to mariah when dreamlover exists

This is going to be a tough one. I know not a lot of people really like One Direction, but I know some good songs that they did.

One Direction:

Long Way Down

This is one of my most beautiful songs ever. You really have to listen to it. It's not the best version, but this is all I could find for this song, unfortunately. :c

Story of My Life

I'm not really big on Zayn's era because he's kind of an ass, but this song is also really good as well.

Drag Me Down

This is also a very good song. It's one of those songs that inspires you or makes you want to dance. XD

Don't hate on One Direction. :c

I LOVE The Wolves I&II. For Emma, Forever Ago is one of my favorite albums and those songs are what really pulled me into their music. I've been listening to King Kunta almost weekly. That funk at the end <3

I also really enjoy this thread, it's creative and makes you think :)

Aerosmith
Aerosmith at their best is when they're over the top and fun, getting back to their blues roots, or doing a ballad. These are my favorites in each of those categories. Try NOT rocking out to Eat the Rich, I dare you. The build up at the end of the song will make any early classic rock fans happy in Rats in the Cellar. Steven actually used the harmonica a lot during their early years and put it to good use.

1. Eat the Rich
2. Rats in the Cellar
3. Crazy

Jenny Lewis
Jenny is one of my favorite lyricists, she writes really great & really deep songs that you can listen to over and over again and still get something new out of each play. She has a beautiful voice and utilizes it best when she slows it down a bit. These songs are both great lyrically and are her best vocally, imo. They always get me.

1. Late Bloomer
2. Rise up with Fists
3. Acid Tongue
+One of the Guys (honorary mention, in case you weren't somehow convinced by the other three)

Guns N' Roses
I admit, I don't indulge in 80's rock as much as I used to, but there was a time when these guys were basically all I listened to. Their more mainstream hits are hits for a reason, but I wanted to recommend what I think were their best. No Welcome to the Jungle or Sweet Child O' Mine. Rocket Queen and November Rain are really long songs, but have a great payout at the end. Slash's guitar solo in November Rain is i c o n i c. Everyone should at least hear it once.

1. Rocket Queen
2. Mr. Brownstone
3. November Rain

This is a good thread for me to spread the wonders of Takenobu Mitsuyoshi.

1) Ai Gatari Nai Ze: JPN Opening Theme to Virtua Fighter (Anime)
2) Ignite Infinity: Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity
3)Sky High: Daytona USA Deluxe

Seriously there is a lot more I can post from his works that aren't even vocal songs. He's really talented of a composer in my opinion.

So... we just post three songs from our favorite artists then? Okay.

Kate Bush
There are so many songs and videos by her that I'd love to have people listen to and watch. Her songs all have this great storytelling quality to them and the videos only add to it with the crazy dancing and Kate's crazy eyes. She is all kinds of glam and class and theatricality.

Spoiler:

Tori Amos
She's like the spiritual successor to Kate Bush. Lots of intense lyrics and images and lots of piano (which I love) but she can also be weird and playful. I think her early work (the first four or five albums) are all golden.

Spoiler:

Regina Spektor
She's kind of the spiritual successor to Tori Amos. (Every decade seems to have one.) She's different in that she comes off as more of a playful artist at first, but you get the serious and deep and all that if you give her a good listen. Also good with the piano.

Spoiler:

Drag Me Down

This is also a very good song. It's one of those songs that inspires you or makes you want to dance. XD

i agree
nice song
i am not a fan of them but i LOVE that song

LINKIN PARK

1. nobody is allowed to hate them because they are legends and best rock band on earth
2. fak them people who say the ''old linkin park'' was better
3. seriously, linkin park rocks

♥ :pink_giggle:

Well, since Ozy already done did good with Kendrick I guess I'll do Wretch32

Unorthodox
This song is just a classic. His lyrical approach is great. The message behind it is great, especially in a genre that's so focused on gangs, being a 'badman' and hos. It's a simple and powerful song. I love the instrumental aswell, it has a gritty feel to it that really goes with the subject matter. Wretch is a guy that makes it obvious he puts a lot of thought into his songs, and this is a perfect example of that

6 Words
Another good song. Much lighter tone, and less meaningful in it's subject matter. It's a love song, but a very upbeat one that's just pleasant to listen to. The instrumental, the vocals, they make you feel like you're striving for something and it's not a bad feeling.(Or at least it did for me)

The 15th
This song is just chill. Cant help but nod to this. It's so calm, and of course it also has that Wretch feel to it. Not really as much for me to say about it. I will add that it was uploaded to YouTube on the 15th of Jan, which just reiterates my comment about Wretch considering every detail.
SPECIAL MENTION TO HIS FIRE IN THE BOOTH, cause that shit was fire

Screw it I'll list some Kendrick songs too
M.A.A.D City
Swimming pools
I

Gonna mention J Cole and Bryson Tiller aswell, but I'm not gonna list their songs

Well my favourite band is Linkin Park so at least there's a lot of versatility to work with there haha

1. Leave Out All the Rest
2. The Catalyst
3. In the End

Ignoring that the first is just in general my favourite of their songs, I think across those three songs there's probably something that should appeal to most people.

Also just for fun let's do The Cat Empire too

1. The Heart is a Cannibal
2. Wolves
3. The Darkness

Gonna mention J Cole and Bryson Tiller aswell, but I'm not gonna list their songs

I gotchu on Cole. Bryson Tiller I've only heard a few songs, I like 502 Come Up.

J. COLE

Hard to narrow it down to just 3, so i made two sections and 3 for each, depends on what you're looking for.

If you wanna see some real talent, but not necessarily get turnt up:
1. https://youtu.be/7AjD7nKiUQ4Power Trip
Not too deep but a great song, good flow. Featuring Miguel, who's voice just rolls perfectly off the beat
2. https://youtu.be/Qn1qdC7hXRg03 Adolescence
Such a great song that highlights a lot of J. Cole's best aspects. Sounds great, tells a story that draws you in. If you really wanna see how good this song is I'd suggest watching to the live version afterwards: https://youtu.be/mUYAlODMQvg
3. https://youtu.be/eRaFMlZ1YHAApparently
Another song that showcases a lot of talent. Has some singing, a pretty chill, emotional first verse about his mother and apologizing to her, then he goes in on the second verse and shows you just how good a rapper he is.

If you want some bangers / really fun songs
1. https://youtu.be/eCGV26aj-mMWet Dreamz
Just as the name suggests. It's Cole's story of him losing his virginity: very catchy and enjoyable. as usual, great storytelling.
2. https://youtu.be/A2B5clYLtOcA Tale of 2 Citiez
Song goes hard! Gritty, dark, and good. Cole tells you about how there were two sides to his hometown and two sides to himself: the nice, rich white neighborhoods and the ghettos.
3. https://youtu.be/6PN78PS_QsMWork Out
Relatively old, and basically Cole's first huge blown-up hit. Very fun and catchy, but it was designed as a crowd-pleaser. He actually went on to make an entire song on his next album, apologizing for making "Work Out" because his studio wanted a hit. It's called "Let Nas Down".

Drake
He's so underappreciated imo. He definitely not on the same level as Cole or Kendrick but i still like him. He get's too much hate because people think he's soft, listening to stuff like "Hotline Bling". People also don't seem to realize that rappers usually have some help in making their rhymes. Ghostwriters, if you want to say it like that. Doesn't make them fake, or untalented. Drake generally has two sides to him, the rapper and the sort of R&B artist.

Rap
1. https://youtu.be/FyBU0JZ3RbY Lord Knows
This is what you show people when they call Drake soft, saying he can't rap, etc. One of his most underrated songs, ever. Beat goes in, Drake goes in, and you can just end the song before Rick Ross's verse if you want.
2. Tie between https://youtu.be/gIkJMPPQn6c Tuscan Leather and https://youtu.be/VAwWdK7b2zE Pound Cake
Shoutout to Drake's producers. Tuscan Leather serves as the intro to his 2013 album Nothing Was the Same, and Pound Cake is the outro. beat is amazing on both, have really similar vibes that just take you to another place. He does pretty darn good as well.

R&B/Singing
1.https://youtu.be/XOOqodVhIxM Star67
A cross between rapping and the amazingly chill vibes that his singing can get you into.
2. https://youtu.be/t-6XS5c-P_QJungle
ah man, what a chill song. not much else to say.
3. https://youtu.be/s2fmEZ3-W5IMarvin's Room
The original.
