I try to go to bed at the same time every night and I also try to make sure I'll get at least 8 hours of sleep. I mean, that's kind of a pipe dream nowadays since I've had insomnia for several years but 8 hours has been my target since I was a kid and it's comforting to stick with it. I've learnt that I actually function way better on 9 or 10 hours but 8 is probably my minimum for not being too tired the next day. Also, if it's after 2:30am, I will try to drop everything and head to bed if I haven't already.
Anyway, these days, I'll take my sleeping pill (tryptophan, just started it last month) a few hours before I go to bed. Then I try to get off the computer and stay away from any electronics for at least an hour before I intend to fall asleep. No eating, exercising, or homework during this time because it gets me too wound up. If it's a day that I'm allowed to take my old sleeping pills too, I'll take that just before I crawl into bed and then I
...and then I eventually break the "no electronics" rule to watch youtube videos as I lie there hating myself for being unable to sleep and come 4am on the dot when I'm inevitably still awake and the birds outside start chirping incessantly even though it's not light out, I start whining about my lack of sleep on twitter. (Yeah, I get pretty bitter about it. xD)
[...] so yeah, tips on sleeping easiest would be lovely. x]
I have
so many although they don't work for me. XD;
- no caffeine/alcohol within four hours of your intended bedtime
- no LCD screens within one hour
- don't use your bed for anything but sleeping (it's best to not use your room at all for anything but sleeping but I know that's not an option for most people)
- no exercise within one hour
- wake up at the same time every day
- ...and try not to sleep in or take naps
- spend more time outside during the day
- try to keep noise/light out of your room when you're trying to sleep
Some of these are pretty obvious but you don't even realize you do them... or I don't... like the light in your room thing. I actually covered up my window recently and the lack of seeing a glimmer of streetlights helped immensely!
