Is Exploiting Glitches Cheating?

Since Pokémon has a lot of exploitable glitches, I wanted to ask you guys. Do you think exploiting in game glitches is cheating? Ones that you can exploit without help of devices, I mean.

I honestly do think some of these exploitable glitches ARE cheating. Like the cloning glitch, as if you do it right, you can clone Master Balls or Rare Candies to max number capability if you wanted to, with little to no in-game side effects. I admit to exploiting the cloning glitch, too, to get more rare candies. The Pomeg Berry and its sub-glitches, too (Glitzer Popping), especially if you know what you're doing.

But not all of them, in my opinion, are cheating. There are some I don't view as cheating. Like, the Sky Drop Glitch, for example. This glitch doesn't give the user any personal gain.

honestly i don't care how anyone wants to play their game for their personal enjoyment. if you like to cheat out the ass, go for it. my only issue is when it affects other people. like if you have a pokemon that you hacked into your game to be shiny or have crazy stats or moves and you try to use it in battle with someone, that's not fair. unless you've agreed to do a crazy hack battle for fun, like. don't do that. applies with trades, too. if you used illegal methods, or even questionable methods like RNG abuse, to obtain a pokemon and you have it up in your trade shop but aren't honest about its origins, that's shitty. don't do that. i hella abused the RNG in gen V and put those pokemon in my trade shop, but i never short skirted anyone on it. i had it posted loud and clear that they were obtained through RNG abuse, which most people don't seem to mind anyway because you're manipulating what's already in the game without an outside device doing the work for you, unless you count the program used to create seeds...i digress.

enjoy the game how you see fit whether or not it involves cheating (idc if you have 293180 master balls catching legendaries, especially with how many there are now, is a pain you do what you gotta do) is none of my business until it affects trade or battle. just be honest about what you've done with your games when playing with others and like that's all that matters.

Preach! Especially the bolded part. I was so excited to complete my first living dex back in gen 6 and when I was like 15-20 mons off doing so I found out that nearly all of the Pokemon traded to me were hacked lol. People used to justify genning their Pokemon by saying hacked mons don't have an advantage over legit mons if they have the same stats and whatnot. The thing is the time that legit players spend acquiring and raising those Pokemon could've been spent getting better at the game. People who cheat to get their mons are obviously going to have a near infinite amount of options too which most legit players wont.

Specifically relating to glitches, I think that cloning items and even Pokemon is alright totally not because I do it myself. If you think about it, people only want more Master Balls to help with catching Legendaries or shinies, or sometimes both! I wouldn't dare trying to soft-reset for a shiny without a Master Ball on hand, to the point where I glitched about 8 of them on Crystal VC just so I have them as a safety net for my soft-resetting hunts. Similar thing with Pokemon; I don't want to trade my super rare event, but I know that someone else could enjoy it just as much as I do, so why not satsify both people?

Glitched Pokemon, on the other hand, aren't that cool. For example, you could technically catch Darkrai/Shaymin/Arceus in the Sinnoh games, but they won't get through Poke Transporter to the newer games, and therefore I can't consider them as legit or even legal Pokemon. In this manner, I would consider it cheating as by catching and trading glitched Pokemon, you're setting up a scenario where their new owner may not be able to transfer them up to newer games as hack checks get more thorough and ban Pokemon that were caught in illegal circumstances.

Cheat away! Exploit everything in your game and break the loving Christ out of it. I honestly don't care and if you're having fun than who am I to complain? Just don't be a dick about it and try to trade them off as legit or try to use them competitively. Simple as that.

Using all the tools available to you in order to get the games into an unexpected state with the result being anything from creepy over hillariously stupid up to very beneficial is fair game.

One could even make a point that for every morally dubious deed that comes off of an exploit future games can only benefit. If you get something illegitimate you should not have obtained and try to rip people off, those people will make it very clear to the devs that they don't like it. As a result the developers need to put more effort into dealing with these issues. That leads to more robust future releases.

Agreed here. Keep glitched stuff to yourself and it's fine imo. You're not using external devices or programs, after all.
