Is Lucario still a very popular and important Pokemon?

Honest question, just want to see some thoughts.

I feel like Lucario is a bit if a phenomenon if you will, but ever since B/W his popularity slowly died off. Being back to B/W2, I don't know if his importance, relevancy and popularity went back up since I've been out of touch since then.

Particularly importance, seeing as how marketable he was back in Diamond and Peal days, even appearing in a Super Smash Bros game as a playable character. He was essentially a second mascot.

    Discuss.

Well, Lucario I believe is still popular thanks to its wonderful typing, which is unique for a non-legendary Pokemon, and great moves. It's quite hard to find one though, especially in B2W2. Even though they do have a place in the wild - the Floccesy Ranch - they rarely appear, and are rumored to be difficult to catch, but if you happen to have one you're as lucky as catching Sawk in White and Throh in Black. For a steel-type it's not quite that helpful in the Gyms however, as it's STAB is only supereffective against Normal types, whilst its typing makes it weak to Ground.

Not through a gaming perspective - yes, I would say it's still popular. It became a sort of second mascot because it's got that air of "cool" that Pikachu, uh, never really can get.

It's typing is nice and it's Aura powers that the anime and manga shine light on make it sort of special compared to most pokémon. I've always seen it be popular in RPing, and then often as a main partner pokémon. Even the BW2 anime trainer for the games showed the protagonist with a Lucario! I don't think that was a coincidence - it's such an iconic pokémon so they knew people would love it if Lucario was in the trailer. Also, it was a good way of showing that popular pokémon from previous generations were obtainable in the new games.

We could make a comparison with Zoroark - it was first hyped to become the next Lucario. But it never really came that far, did it? Lucario has got something special. To which extent it depends on how good it is in competitive gaming though, I don't know.

Gotta agree with Red's Hawt. I would just add that his competitive abilities are pretty good as well ;)
Lucario is still the iconic Pokemon character and truly second iconic PKMN after Pikachu.
His popularity died with BW because BW was directed at 5th generation Pokemon and you couldn't obtain Lucario without trading while you could in BW2 (I don't think it was that hard, though :D).

I think it's still viewed as a low-tier mascot for the franchise. I believe it's still used in that Pokemon Smash show (ie someone is dressed up as one), and they seemed to like drawing attention to the fact it was in the B2W2 games too (or at least via Riolu - just look at the animated trailer for B2W2!)

It's an overrated, overhyped piece of scum that only got popular because of the disgusting subculture known as "Furries". I mean, it looks okay, but the furries make it seem like it's God. Which it isn't.

Haha yeah, Furries really inflated Lucario's image, in the worst way possible. It's amazing that a group of....people....could have such an impact on another subculture.

I never liked Lucario that much. It seemed cool to have a Pokemon based on Egyptian imagery, until that sentiment was lost on other facets it possesses, like its typing.

Guys let's not turn this into a furry debate or a question about whether or not you like Lucario.

I'm just looking for discussion about Lucario's importance in a marketing standpoint. It's more of a research about marketing really, particularly about an individual character.

Oh though I know it's usefulness in competitive battling being OU and all so let's not bring that up either please, I don't think it has much for what I want to know (relevance in marketing and media) anyway.

I think so if they recently used him in the English anime, where Lucario evolved from Riolu and beat Pikachu, allowing Cameron to advance to the Unova League finals. Seeing an older Pokémon in the newer anime is like watching a dog walk on its hind legs (no pun intended). :)

It's undebatable that Lucario has become a macot. And because of this, it is important. It's not like you can just forget about a Pokemon like Lucario because it has had such a major role in the franchise as a whole.

On a personal note i think its is totally awesome. It's a type combo of my two favourite types so I hate playing without it. And I like it more than Cobalion simply because it's design is cooler, it's not legendary, and Aura Sphere is epic.

Ugh, probably. Which is unfortunate. I really do hate that thing with my entire being.
I've never really seen Lucario (it pains me to type its name, it really does) as a marketing mascot or anything. Pikachu's the main mascot, obviously, and from what I've seen, that Gen's legendaries are usually seen as mascots; I remember Diamond and Pearl's release, Dialga and Palkia stuff was everywhere. No Lucarios (ugh), though.

I can understand those who dislike lucario.
It is significantly more popular for no real reason.

personally, in BW2, Lucario was a certainty since floccessy, and aura sphere is damn cool, being fighting, special, never miss with decent power.

Lucario is one of the few non-Kanto Pokemon who has proven himself to be in the same ranks with Charizard and Mewtwo. It's a pretty amazing feat for a Pokemon that's suppose to be the series' equivalent of Ryu from Street Fighter.

It's not really that popular, even when I peeked at some furry sites (i still have scars from that day) Lucario wasn't very prevalent. Sure, you may see the odd person with a Lucario avatar, but the anti-gen 4 stigma that seems to be covering the fanbase seems to be blocking it out,

But just you wait; when Diamond and Pearl remakes start being theorised in the fanbase a lot more, Lucario will become relevant once again.

Lucario was designed to be a movie star and succeeded.

I have a Nasty Plot Lucario with Aura Sphere and Vacuum Wave. He is a Fighting Type what does Special Attacks. Technically, he is more of a mix-sweeper. That is unique for fighting type pokemon.

Lucario is unique in many ways and has erned his place in the games.

Tbh, i never used Lucario until BW2. Rioulu was an early Fighting type to get your hands on, and since i never used it before, i felt like giving it a try. I was actually quite happy with Lucario in the end. I feel like he learns all his awesome moves pretty late, but as soon as you give him a few good moves, he can do pretty good in battle. Design-wise, Rioulu looks very cute and Lucario look awesome imo. I never got on the Lucario hypetrain, but i still think its a very good Pokemon
