How did you feel about Kotone's Official English Name?

Pokemon already has 2 Kates though, the Frontier Brain (well, in Japan anyway) and the female player character from Pokemon Ranger 2.

I like Lyra, its just..although I did prefer Melody.
 
^ Going to keep open for the aforementioned discussion of the new name, and seeing how popular this thread was before as well I'm sure more people would want to comment here anyways. I'll close later on though probably when more names begin to come through - if people still want to discuss the new name then there's the English Names thread to use for that - for now that thread can serve as speculation for anyone not called Kotone/Lyra. =P

Japanese definitely doesn't count. and nobody cares about Pokemon Ranger, so that doesn't either

I don't particularly like Lyra, it's...odd. Not normal-sounding like...well, actually, scratch that.
 
I heard about it in the news at Serebii. It's not Kotone, it's not Melody, it's not Harmony, it's not even Kristen! Her real and official English name is Lyra! First, when I saw the girl for the first time (August 2009), her name is Soul. And then she got her Japanese name, Kotone. I really got used to the name Kotone. We've been thirsting for her English name, and none of us expcected it to be Lyra! Many people still don't know Kotone's English name, Lyra. If you searched for Lyra before this date I posted this message, you'll just get a picture of a harp. Probably 3 months after I posted this message, some people will search for Lyra, and some may have 50/50 results. 50% of the pictures will be about the harp, and 50% of the pictures will be about Kotone (Lyra). So this thread is still open!
 
ok i think lyra is a horrible name for her. and ethan for hibiki also. i think she should be harper and he should be jimmy like in the pokemon chronicles episodes. im namin her harper in my hg

Exactly! I loved Lyra. Although I laughed a lot at the one who said Maria, because she looks like a female Mario. And it's true!! LOL

Now about the boy. I don't think I can call him Ethan, for me he is Gold until they give a name to Silver too (it isn't Kamon, plz). Jimmy is a name from a cartoon, and the games don't need to follow that show. It's most possible that this Jimmy from Pokémon Chronicles reappear and reveal his real name: Ethan James. (?)

P.S.: Soul is stupid, the one who made it up had no creativity at all, since there's no Heart. It's like the Green girl with new outfit being called Leaf. Where's the Fire?
 
Woo hoo! I knew Kotone's name would be one I liked! Lyra... I love that name! All you people who don't think that name's fitting for Kotone are psycho! I didn't like the idea of Harper... I don't like that name very much -_-... I'm sooo glad that Kotone's English name is Lyra!

Harper (Harp)
Kelly (Cello & Calliope & Clio)
Frida (Fiddle)
Midi (MIDI)
Euphonix (Euphony)

And lastly, "Soul".

She looks better like that anyway..

Lyra doesn't fit otherwise though, and Melody sounds way to cliche. (Although she does look like she could have a hippie for a mum)

The name Soul will never die out though, I know I'll still be calling her that. (No less cliche though. xD)
 
I personally love her English name. I prefer Kotone, but Lyra is rather fitting.
A constellation named after the lyre, a stringed instrument resembling the harp.. I really like it. :D
Although at first I wasn't sure if I liked it.. Maybe I just like it because I'm an astronomy freak..? ^^;

I also like how it's not a direct translation, kind of like how they got Dawn from Hikari.

My only problem is I'm going to have to get used to pronouncing it right. I keep wanting to pronounce it like "Leer-a" instead of "Lye-rah". Ahaha.. xD;
