Sort of, yeah. They're school idols, so they sing and perform while also being students. A lot of the events they sing at are usually things like a live show in the school's auditorium, an open campus event for new students, or during a graduation ceremony. Usually the plot will have to do with their schools being at risk of closing down, and they gain popularity as an idol group to attract more students, and enter qualifiers to perform in Love Live, the big idol competition.

*wonders why she doesn't play this*

Do you tend to play lots of Idol games, or do you stick to this one mainly?

Is it a musical school, like Juilliard, or just the idols that sing? Do the girls experience typical high schooler things on a day to day? Do they have other interests than singing? What happens when they graduate?

I could help you get into it if you'd like? SIFAS is great and it's free so it's accessible and it's not like a super difficult rhythm game so it's not like you have to be super good at these kinds of games to get into it. The whole saving the school thing happens in the anime and SIFAS has a different plot but it's easy to get into and the characters are the same!

I play multiple, but not a lot. Love Live School Idol Festival All Stars (or SIFAS) is the main one I play, but I play School Idol Festival sometimes. I used to play BanG Dream daily for months too, and I also have Project Sekai downloaded (though I don't play it often). I have 6 on my phone currently, including my Japanese accounts for SIFAS and BanG Dream.

It's just a typical high school, the idols just join a school idol club (started by the idols themselves) and things like after school practice are part of their club activities. They experience typical high school stuff pretty often, there are times they'll be part of different events or even clubs, and there's even one part of the anime I can remember where some of the girls have to study to pass their exams so the school can allow them to participate in one of the qualifiers. All of them have different things they're into, like Setsuna is really into anime and manga but hides it from her parents, along with her idol identity and she's like a different person. Some of them play piano or other musical instruments, part of other clubs like a drama club or swim team, one girl is a model, another owns a diving shop, one practices archery and one does fortune telling, there's a lot of variety.
The decision after graduating depends on the group themselves and it's a pretty big plot point of the anime I won't spoil, but different groups do different things once the oldest members graduate.

Do other girls take the places of the ones that graduate or will that ruin the the story? Why does Setsuna have to hide that side of her especially, to her parents? Did they want her to do something else with her life? Do the singing competitions take place locally or is it national/world wide? How many groups are there?

Do you write fan fiction for these characters or role play?

We've never seen girls take the place of those who graduate, and in some cases it'd probably ruin the story. New different groups of different girls have formed after characters have graduated, though.
Setsuna is the student council president of her school, and her parents are strict about her grades, and things like that, so she enjoys it secretly at school or in the clubroom. While the idea of her parents wanting her to do something else is kinda vague, there is another girl where that's totally the case, she wants to study music but her parents want her to study medicine.
Love Live is a national competition and nothing's quite been done worldwide in-universe, but one of the real life idol groups have performed in places like LA. A fun fact is there was an earthquake during the LA performance, so the "Aqours earthquake" has been a joke among fans.
There are four main groups we have, and three named rival groups so far.
The main groups are μ's (pronounced Muse), Aqours, the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, and Liella. Liella's pretty new so we don't know much about them yet, their anime season hasn't even happened and they aren't in the games.
While the rival groups are A-RISE (rivals to μ's), Saint Snow (rivals to Aqours), and the School Idol Association (rivals to Nijigasaki) yes the nijigasaki names are weird don't worry about it

I won't give a yes or no answer to that but... I may or may not have some notes...

I don't think I'd start a roleplaying thread, that's probably not really my thing, but in terms of clubs, I don't know the first thing about them, so if I feel like there could be enough interest maybe I could take a look at that at some point. Who knows.

Well, I think I'm going to turn in for the night. I'm getting tired. It was great chatting with you Setsuna. I learned something about Love Live! Ash, if you're still there, night. Both of you take care

look who's back!
