I haven't read any manga, but I started watching Naruto almost a year ago (actually less, like 9 months ago maybe) and then I was like 'let's see what Boruto story is', so I started reading a bit of the manga. I stopped. Once I have some more knowledge of Japanese and actually have the time to study it, I'd like to buy the Japanese copy of the Sasuke-Itachi part of Naruto. I am also planning to start reading Berserk soon, since I have already watched all of the series already (yes, RIP Miura).

if you could take me back to 1997 when one piece started, i'd probably get into it and stay in it

I watched all of those actually. I think the first series is the best yet still being more "restricted" on some content imo. Then I watched the last movie, where there was a little part that wasn't shown in the anime. Re-watching some of it, I realised that the movies were probably darker and slightly more violent. New series seemed to kinda follow that path. That kinda enlightened me and I was like "what am I actually missing from the manga?", and so that's why I am planning to read it. For me the new series is meh mainly for the graphic style. I have got to say that I have always managed to compromise with quality of everything, if the core story was good, yet in this case I really thought that it looked bad. The second season bothered me a little less.

Was it the 90s adaptation or the newer one that's supposedly trash?

I didn't know there were two versions =P
I'll need to look it up when I get home, though from what I remember about the visuals it's probably the latter.
The visuals didn't really bother me that much personally, but they stood out regardless to me as the style just looked 'off' compared to other Animes I was watching at the time.

Edit: Looks like the one I watched was from 2016 & 2017, so definitely not the 90's adaptation =P

The main things criticized about the 2016/17 series are the visuals (the CGI looks pretty awful at times) and the "choreography" of the fight. Berserk itself is a very slow and deliberate series. Just just feel the heavy weight of Gut's weapon as he swings it. Apparently the newer series didn't really care about that and just made stuff flashy?

Actually, both Monster Hunter and the Soulsborne series were inspired by Berserk. The focus on the very deliberate battle system and the "punishing mistakes" part comes from that.

Do you like Dark Souls, Piplup? :O
Spoiler:

Does that mean you'll give a low five to those that don't? 😌

I'm already watching too much stuff atm. I'll probably look if I can find the original Berserk eventually though.

Are you surprised or confused?

I'd take both wins, thank you.
