Legendary Pokemon in regular Pokeballs (and their counterparts) are impressive, but I just snagged a Dragonair (literally a moment ago) on FireRed version in the Safari Zone (1% encounter rate w/ Super Rod) after 5 Safari Balls, I caught it. (8.85% catch rate with said ball). I was looking for a Dratini, which I'm currently fishing for now...

Have you ever had any lucky catches? Discuss your experience here!

I can remember struggling To catch Dialga with an ultra ball. I did in the end. But it's my boyfriend who's really lucky. straight off the bat he fired a quick ball at palkia and caught it on the first turn!

Catching Giratina with just one Ultra Ball in Pokémon Platinum. I don't know how it happened, but I was quite surprised when it did. I literally had my jaw dropped. xD I was prepared to battle against Giratina. I bought over 150 Ultra Balls so that I don't run out of any when battling against it, and I also bought a few Great Balls. All of them had to go to a waste when I caught the Pokémon in the first turn.

Another lucky moment for me was when I met a shiny Scyther in Pokémon FireRed, and I was able to successfully catch it with only two Safari Balls.

Pretty sure I went through a phase of only using normal pokéballs and pokéballs introduced in the generation of the game I was playing (meaning Gen II for HeartGold). So I ended up catching all the legendaries in Black with a Poké Ball except Tornadus (Master Ball), and all the legendaries in HeartGold with either Poké Balls or Fast Balls (on Entei and Raikou - seeing as I couldn't stop them fleeing it was just one throw per battle too - I got them both inside an hour, so that was definitely lucky).

Unlike the rest of you, I have almost no luck in the Safari Zone - I used all 30 balls on a Pinsir and Heracross in Emerald last time I was playing it.

My luckiest catch was probably a Chansey in Pokemon Yellow's Safari Zone. It's probably one of, if not THE hardest pokemon to catch (Gen I Chansey, i mean) in history.

Runner-up is a Rayquaza on my 1st Emerald run. First turn, was supposed to throw a master ball, but I didn't notice that I threw a pokeball out of all the hurry... it got caught. I was dumbfounded.

the one I can think of is when I caught an Uxie in one pokeball in my Black 2 playthrough.

My luckiest catch was Latias in Emerald. I had been chasing it around for some time, and had weakened it to the point where I was ready to throw Pokeballs at it. I had a stock of Ultra Balls but my cursor was hovering over the one Luxury Ball I had and accidentally selected it. I lucked out and Latias was caught with it.

Another lucky moment for me was when I met a shiny Scyther in Pokémon FireRed, and I was able to successfully catch it with only two Safari Balls.

I remember finding a shiny Wooper in the Great Marsh on Diamond version. My heart was racing, I caught it on the second ball as well!

Another lucky moment I had was yesterday I caught Cobalion in a Great Ball (first attempt) after weakening it. By the way, after posting this thread I went on to catch another Dragonair in the Safari Zone before finally catching Dratini! haha

When I recently replayed LeafGreen, I caught Mewtwo in three moves: damaging hit, put it to sleep and a single Ultra Ball. I couldn't believe how simple it was...

Before that I played FireRed which I recorded entirely using my Dazzle. I didn't record LeafGreen, and after capturing Mewtwo so easily, I regretted not recording my playthrough.

In my first playthrough of any pokemon game - Leaf Green - I went into the Safari Zone and started wandering around. One of the first things I saw was this roly-poly egg-shaped pokemon, so I threw a ball at it and caught it and didn't think much about it.

It wasn't until later - in fact, on a thread on another forum about the most difficult Safari Zone catches - that I discovered how rare Chansey is AND how difficult it is to catch. I had no idea.

I've had many lucky catches in my time playing. I have caught numerous legendaries with Pokeballs, when usually it takes an Ultra Ball. I think the best catch I had though, was in Ruby. I threw a Great Ball at Latios and caught it at full health on my first try.

Leafgreen, catching Mewtwo after throwing 2 normal pokeballs by only paralyzing it with full health. I was raging when I couldn't catch moltres so I threw my masterball it, which was actually meant for mewtwo.

I never had any luck with catching Pokemon, be it legendary or not. However, there was one time a long time ago where I just chucked a Great Ball at lv70 Ho-Oh in Pokemon Silver out of pure frustration after wasting dozens upon dozens of ultra balls, and just happened to catch Ho-oh with it. I don't understand my luck at all sometimes.

Going into battle with Rayquaza and chucking a leftover Pokeball at it before lowering its health or inflicting status. Didn't expect that to catch it, but it did. ;o; I was shocked.

OMG! That's crazy! I got Rayquaza down to like no HP and it was sleeping. I threw an ultra ball and it still didn't catch it! :(

Used ALL my ultra balls, great balls, poke balls and timer balls on Rayquaza. All i had was my one Master Ball and a Premier Ball. I though what the hell and chucked the Premier Ball. and caught it.

I try not to use the Master Ball but there was no doubt that i would have done it that time. I was frustrated.
