Anime/Manga Lucky Dip Watch Along

I know it's almost the end of the month, but I only just started watching it. I saw first two episodes and it's actually pretty funny. Souta is kinda weird, but otherwise I like the whole set. I also have a feeling that Souta and Inami will end up together. I feel like they tried to set up the whole "Souta likes Popura" thing way too much. I also don't mind character-driven plot without any big goal being set up early.

Season one is finished! Overall, I really enjoyed it. The earlier episodes largely weren't particularly great and sometimes the comedy falls flat, but through the show there have been plenty of moments that have made me laugh a little. The descriptor is a bit misleading because the work place is usually not actually the focus, just the setting, but I prefer it this way. The only thing that bugs me, and this is something that happens often for me, is that the storyline with Souta and Mahiru would have been incredible if it was played straight in a more dramatic story as opposed as largely played for laughs while in this it's still solid, but not as good as it could have been. The problem there is less an actual problem with the show though, it's a good show, it's just that there was potential there for something greater than I'm disappointed I don't get to see.

I have it a 7/10 based on the strength of the good episodes, like four and some of the later ones, the earlier episodes averaged more in the 4-5 range. I'm not going to rush my way through the second season, but I am going to continue watching through gradually when the month is over.

I tried to rewatch it, but I didn't quite reach the end. On my first watching, the whole "androphobia humor" got old for me quite fast and on a re-watch... yea, works even less for me.
Which doesn't mean the show is bad, I think it has some character chemistry, genuinely funny moments and let's not downplay the strength of a certain moment between Souta and a certain over-protective gentleman.

Imagine how good the androphobia storyline would be if they played it straight instead of in a comedy though. Damn that'd be gold.

I'm currently on the 4th episode and I'm not sure how I feel about it. The series is growing on me for sure, although I don't really like Mahiru or Yamada. Every time Yamada refers to herself by her given name I want to scream. It drives me absolutely batty and I despise when characters do that, it comes across as incredibly juvenile. It sometimes works for other characters, but not in Yamada's case. She's not as charismatic and endearing as she thinks she is. The entire Androphobia thing is also a bit unrealistic. How would one manage to hold down a job with such an intense fear of the opposite gender whilst working in an industry that relies on interaction and social skills? I think it would have worked better if it was a bit more cohesive and if it wasn't Mahiru's only defining trait. If the comedic value of it was played up I think it would've also made it slightly more bearable.

The rest of the cast I really like, Satou and Todoroki in particular. I also find Kozue to be hilarious. She reminds me of quite a few people I know.

Overall I'd give it a 5.5/10 so far. It's relatively enjoyable though there are elements to it that I dislike. It's kind of hit and miss each episode. I'm not sure if I'll complete it and it's unlikely something I'd re-watch.

I just finished 1st season and I think it was pretty decent. I enjoyed most episodes, but there were some jokes that got old really quick. For example Kyouko and Yachiyo's interaction got boring pretty quickly. I also didn't really like the inclusion of Souta's sisters. Show had already enough characters without them, none of them felt particularly interesting and they didn't really serve a role in overarching arc about androphobia.

I loved Satou's dynamic with Popura and Souma and Souma's interaction with basically everyone. I was worried he would be "just there" to inflate the number of employees, but he had some funny moments. Late addition to the cast in a form of Yamada was weird to be honest. I was looking forward where it will go and it goes nowhere in 1st season. Which can be said about every story arc. Nothing is resolved at the end. But at least I have reason to watch another season. And I didn't really cared about Oota. I once again expected his search for his wife to end somehow.

Finally, I said it in my first post, but I dig Souta and Inami relationship. Speaking of Inami and her androphobia - I agree that it would be interesting to see more realistic take on this topic. Anyway, I'm really looking forward how will their relationship evolve in next season. I was hoping for them to at least hold hands this season and was sad that it ended without anything.

Spoiler:

A new month means a new show! This time, the RNG comes from our Post-2010 list, Kokoro Connect.
That's kind of an interesting one to have come up following Working.

I actually started watching Kokoro Connect a few weeks back, but only watched the first episode before drifting into other stuff. I guess I have new motivation to continue now.

Episode 6 here.
I'm a sucker for organic human relations driven plots when done right. As of now, I'm really satisfied. The group's reactions to their surroundings and their struggle with the inconveniences that the phenomenon brings them seem real to me. Big thumbs up from me!

Not necessarily related to the anime itself, but hearing Sawashiro Miyuki voice a character like Himeko is a new one for me since she's mostly known for voicing tomboy or mature woman.

Finished last night. Wow. I don't think it's quite Top 10. Top 20? Definitely.
Himeko ended up being my favorite character. I enjoyed her character arc the most and it felt very satisfying. Romance was handled in a surprisingly realistic way for an anime with such a supernatural premise. I was also surprised by how maturely the issues that the show tackles are addressed.
Let me just mention a certain scene, you know, the
Spoiler:
scene. It had me smiling like an idiot for like the next 5 minutes.
I guess, the only thing that brought the series down a bit for me were the awkward situations. There was maybe a tiny bit too many for my liking.

Overall, about 8,5/10 I'd say

Himeko is my favourite too heh
I agree that there's a few small faults with the show, but I really do love the believable characters and how seamlessly it combines all those aspects you mentioned. I assume you managed to see the extra OVA arc too since that actually finishes the story? You sound like you've seen the whole thing.

Another interesting thing is I'm never totally sure if we can consider the Heartseeds villains. Those of you who finish will see where I'm coming from. xD

For me, I originally had this show score an 8 but I'm strongly considering bumping it to a 9 tbh.

Spoiler:

It's time for a new series! This time we're back to pre-2010 with NHK ni Yousoko!/Welcome to the NHK.
At this time, you are also welcome to PM me with up to 2 additional series you would like to add to either RNG pool.
