Marvel and DC Universe have been pretty popular when it comes to superheros indefinitely: I'd say the heroes from DC are more based on people who became heroes from the get go, like Superman, who have their personalities, flaws and character development later in their publication history. They're more like typical 'world rolemodels' in a sense.. but not quite realistic or relatable to the common folk.

Marvel, well, usually the characters there were normal human beings at first; most have tragic and outstanding flaws to them, that relates more to human beings because.. well again, they were normal at first too, haha. But, eventually in some situation, they receive their superpowers, and mostly their story comes from how they cope and deal with their super powers, for example, Peter Parker becomes 'Spiderman' after being bit by a radioactive spider, and you can basically look at the "mutants" in the X-Men shows/comics.

Well anyway, the discussion here is, do you prefer the characters from Marvel, or the characters from DC? Which one of the two do you prefer on how they develop the characters they've created for their own brand? What flaws do you think the other you didn't choose have? Or you can share any other thoughts!

This the big question isn't it lol.

I kind of prefer the Characters from Batman (Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Batman and Joker are some of my favrate Characters) I think the villains are really interesting and almost tragic, Plus Batman himself is super badass, and Gotham city in my opinion is the best Superhero Location ever its so grim, cold, unpleasant and full of crime and madness and I love the mix of 19th century and Art Deco Architecture. however the other DC Charaters am not really into.

Marvel on the other hand was the Franchise I grew up more with espesually Spiderman and X-men. Marvel has really cool Heros (Ironman, X-men, Captain America, Black Widow etc) but the Villains tend not to be a interesting .

In terms of Films my Favorite Superhero Film is Batman Returns (The Dark Deco Gothic setting is Brilliant). But I prefer the Marvel Expanded Universe concept (apart from the insistence to over concentrate on boring heros like Hulk and Hawkeye) I like the X-men films (my only critism is They have a massive set of Hero/villeins (from the comics) but only really use a few in great detail (Wolverine, Magneto, Prof X, Storm etc).
At the Moment DC films seem to be all over the place and far to Nolanised and trying to be overly realistic, On the Subject of the Nolan films Dark Knight is one of the Best films ive ever seen, Batman Begins one of the most boring and Dark Knight Rises one of the worst films i've ever seen.

Also I think DC have made a mistake with the new 52, A lot of the Female Characters costumes just seem to have been redesigned for fanservice, which is kind of insulting to female fans.

I would say Marvel have by far the best superheroes but most of the villains are boring whilst on the other hand DC has far supereor Villains but most of their superheroes are boring outside of Batman/Superman

No matter how hard Marvel tries, they don't have the best heroes aka Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Among all the Marvel heroes, I'd say only Spiderman is comparable.

I'm almost sure Warner will botch BvS, though. Which will be a disservice to the greatest heroes in history.

I grew up with Marvel heroes however (more specifically X-Men).

Without doubt Warner are going to botch BvS, Marvel did it the right way by introducing every character via their own movie linking each one together along the way, then Avengers had its desired impact and everyone who had no read the comics understood the chemistry of the team.

BvS is going to be a complete mess not everyone will know all the characters or even have an idea on the teams chemistry because there were no introduction movies to build up. Its like throwing the finale before hyping it up. With the amount of charactes being introduced also its going to be a complete mess I guess they assume everyone knows all the characters when this would work better as a 2 part movie.

Chemistry of the team? They only decided to act as a team because of a Nick Fury lie...

There's rumor that BvS will be split, though. There's no "team" in BvS yet either, as Justice League movie will be after it.

On balance, I would have to go with Marvel, although it's actually a pretty close call.

DC only has one or two memorable characters, especially in the hero department, whereas Marvel has an entire pantheon of them. There is also a lot more variety to Marvel, or at least it seems that way due to how memorable the characters are. You've got mutants, deities, regular humans, aliens, manifestations of concepts, sentient planets...I could go on. The memorable DC characters have a great deal more depth to them than a lot of Marvel characters, but they never actually do something with them. DC comics bore me, and I have tried - so many times - to get into them.

Even with the New 52 reboot a few years back DC is still dull, dull, dull. It's gritty and far more realistic, but that's all I can really say in its favour. DC is the sort of thing you can almost believe happening in real life sometimes - especially in the case of Batman - and, to me, that just makes it far less engaging than Marvel's sheer ridiculousness. Marvel Now! was a far better reboot; it streamlined everything and made the crossovers that much better.

Marvel comics are more dynamic. They've got better writing, better art (for the most part) and far more intricate plots, which occasionally cross over for a pretty epic collision which rocks the entire universe. Marvel actually does things with its characters, which is why its comics are so much better. The multiverse (because hey, why just one universe?) is constantly changing, and the fallout from events like House of M and AXIS turn the entire thing upside down. EVERYONE is affected in some way by the major plot arcs, and I love this. You get maybe one or two issues that tie-in to another story going on elsewhere, and then things go back to normal, only with that little aftershock from the other event. Everything feels so much more connected, and characters react to events that they don't even have a big part in. DC, by comparison, has always felt very isolated with its comics, and with a few exceptions, the writing is quite stale...and the characters just aren't as compelling. I love the one-offs, like Superman: Red Son, and occasionally things like The Killing Joke will shake up things, but...well, these are one-offs. Marvel is doing this constantly, across multiple comics, simultaneously.

In terms of movies, Marvel wins this as well, hands-down. I really didn't care for Nolan's Batman movies and, whilst the earlier DC movies were pretty good for their time (no, seriously) the MCU is a juggernaut DC are going to be hard-pressed to beat if the best they can come up with is Batman vs. Superman. The MCU plays out like the comics - it even draws inspiration from the better storylines from them - and, whilst it treats its villains horribly, so far it's been a pretty thrilling ride, with more promised. DC, by comparison, has been far too slow in both revealing its planned movies and releasing them. It hasn't got a hope in hell of catching up, much less matching, at least in my opinion.

That said, DC have infinitely better cartoons, and they always have. As good as the 90s Spiderman and X-Men cartoons were, the interlinked DC cartoons of that era - Batman, Superman, Static Shock and Justice League - were far, FAR better, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold was a superb show, giving DC some much needed comedy. By comparison, the current era Spiderman, Avengers and Hulk (ugh!) cartoons leave a lot to be desired. Marvel haven't had a decent cartoon made in years and, whilst the recent Batman cartoon was a flop, I eagerly await the next one they'll come out with. DC know how to make cartoons.

In terms of TV series, I'd say the two were about equal. Agents of SHIELD is great, but so is Gotham, and Smallville was fantastic. Both Marvel and DC are doing great jobs with their TV series, and are promising great things to come (I'm perhaps a little more excited for DC than Marvel, but only because Krypton has so much potential, and the Daredevil movie put me right off the character so I just can't bring myself to get excited for it) and at the moment, for me, it's too close to call to say which I prefer. It depends on what they come out with, and how well SHIELD sets the stage for the Inhumans movie, really.

Comics and movies, Marvel. Cartoons, DC. TV shows, about equal. Marvel wins for me.

DC is slightly better than Marvel, although I enjoy both.

Both universe have amazing and interesting heroes, but DC seems to have way more iconic villains.

I enjoy marvel more, I just think their A-list characters are more fun, although I think DC handles their villians better. The only A-lister I enjoy from DC is batman, while with Marvel I mostly enjoy there whole line-up.

I am not really a superhero girl of any sort but I do like Spider Man a lot. He seems pretty cool and I can relate a lot of things to him. (He's Marvel right?)

Definitely Marvel. To me, DC "heroes" don't even feel like heroes. Idk, it's hard to explain. I do enjoy media from both, but Marvel definitely takes it from me. They have the X-men, particularly STORM, who is my favorite superhero!

I never understood why people claim that Marvel have more believable and relatable heroes than DC when you have guys like Thor who's a god. It's disregarding the more humane characters in DC like Green Arrow and Robin.

I personally prefer Marvel because it has more of my favorite heroes (Human Torch, Gambit, Deadpool) and I enjoy their movies and Capcom VS games more. The only thing I like about DC is Batman and Robin (Tim Drake).

    I'd say Marvel.

DC has a couple of great heroes (Batman mostly), but for the most part I just can't get into the fandom.

Marvel on the other hand has done a wonderful job in recent years with all the movies (X-Men, Avengers, etc.), which I think makes their heroes as a whole much more accessible to the masses. Plus, their movies are consistently quite good.

I have yet to really see anything good from DC outside of the Dark Knight, and especially not with the frequency Marvel delivers at.

I guess for me it comes down to entertainment factor?

DC has terribly written heroes, and some okay villains. Unfortunately, for every Harley Quinn there's also a Doomsday. The fact that DC heroes have to be given specific weaknesses, like superman and kryptonite or Martian Manhunter and fire is proof of lazy writing.

Marvel has great heroes and also okay villains. Its heroes tend not to have BS weaknesses, but rather human ones, such as arrogance or carelessness. It has some sympathetic villains, like the Lizard or Mystique, who tend to be less memorable than DC villains, but more realistically written in their own worlds.

Marvel wins by a long shot, but at least the Arkham games are good.

While DC gave us Batman and Superman, I still prefer Marvel's group of heroes such as the X-Men and the Avengers. And Spiderman, also, which has been another long-time stander.

DC - it has far more "iconic" superheroes and villains, (Iconic as in they've been pop culture staples for decades, not since 2008 :p) and far superior cartoons, like the animated Batman series(s) of the early 90's. Marvel might have more quality movies, but none of them quite match up to The Dark Knight in terms of scale, acting, production design, the sheer amount of "buzz" and hype, etc. And that Heath ledger guy. People forget how big TDK was back in '08.

That being said, Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier are two of my favorite movies of any genre, and right behind TDK when it comes to the superhero/comic book genre.

Marvel. That's my childhood right there. DC is great and I like some characters from over there like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Barbara Gordon, but everybody else is kind of bland to me.
