Merry Christmas.....I mean Happy Holidays!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Noooooo it's supposed to be HAPPY HOLIDAYS.....you might offend someone if you don't use Happy Holidays.

Whatever! It seems like no matter what you say you offend someone. I myself celebrate Christmas so I will tell you Merry Christmas. If you celebrate something else say so...Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa....Happy Whatever. I won't be offended I'll be happy that you let me know what you celebrate.

What about you? How do you feel and what do you celebrate?

I just say happy holidays since it's all the holidays :3

I'm the most festive person I know so I start saying Merry Christmas to everyone the day after Halloween

My response to those who get offended is why does it matter?

I've actually never met anyone who doesn't celebrate Christmas - like even the people I know who have their own religious holidays, they usually just celebrate both rather than being offended at the mention of Christmas. The modern Christmas holiday is just more about spending time with family and friends, presents and pretty decorations than religion, I think (at least here it is). My family's not religious either but we've always celebrated Christmas.

That said, which greeting I use is more timing-based/situational - if it's not close enough to Christmas day I may say "happy holidays", because... it's not Christmas yet. :P But if it is, then yeah, I'll just say Merry Christmas.

Spoiler:

Twitter memes aside, I don't see why "happy holidays" as opposed to Merry Christmas for at Christmas, but "happy holidays" is more generic and can apply to most holiday seasons.

I say both. To be honest, I know way more Christians that get offended by the saying "Happy Holidays" than I know non-Christians that get offended by the saying "Merry Christmas". All of my Muslim/Athiest/Jewish/Apostolic friends tell me 'Merry Christmas' whether they celebrate or not. I tell them Happy Holidays because I respect them and their religious beliefs, although they wouldn't be offended if I said Merry Christmas.

They respect me and I respect them. It's very simple. I just want everyone to be comfortable and enjoy their holiday season to the fullest, no matter what they celebrate.

I personally don't give a fuck, as long as the typical holiday food is around it could be a Cthulhu ritual for all I care

I usually say and am told "merry Christmas" because loads of people in this country are Catholic, but I don't care about the name. I don't get offended and don't know anyone who ever got offended

i honestly think it's idiotic to be offended and riled up over something like that but w/e

idgaf if i end up offending anyone by mentioning the wrong holiday like m8 it's not as if i intentionally aimed to offend you, i'd say worse if i wanted to do that

the majority of my dad's side of the family doesn't celebrate holidays so some of them get very offended when they hear happy holidays or merry christmas. the church they belong to believes everyday should be celebrated so they don't celebrate holidays, a few of them also believe that people who celebrate christmas worship trees (?).

I say "Merry Christmas!" only after thanksgiving.

Modern Christmas is a more world-wide holiday than christian now-a-days anyways, about family, friends, and giving to those in need.

If that offends someone... I'm not going to shed a tear. But I do respect others holidays as well and try to wish people a merry *whatever holiday here* if I know they celebrate that.

People are using the word "offend" in the wrong way tbh. Wishing somebody a happy holidays or merry christmas is not offensive, it's nice. If you feel offended by that, it's truly your problem. If somebody would say "Happy Hanukkah!" to me, I'd just think it was nice that they wanted to share their holidayness with me!
