Methods of Evolving

Long ago, there were only a couple of ways to evolve our Pokémon, but now, there is a variety.

Aside from leveling-up and using elementary stones, few methods of evolving we have right now are trading; raising happiness; teaching the Pokémon certain move(s); training in a certain area; waiting to train until morning, afternoon, evening, or night; and more.

Of all the options we have tried so far, which do we believe to be the most challenging, and how or why so? If we were to create our own evolution method, what would we refer it as, and how would it work?

Teaching certain move sure is bit hard to evolve like Evee possibly won't learn charm since you got it from NPC and affection is next goal to evolve to Sylveon. Day/Night thing makes more difficult to evolve because certain pokemon evolve at different time like Tyrunt only evolve on daytime, Slingoo on rainy routes/towns and it may become unpredictable about the weather evolution

Inkay has the most unique but also the most obscure method of evolving, since you have to hold the 3ds upside down to trigger it. If internet didn't exist, then I would still have no idea how to evolve it.

I have to agree with Sebastian_Sommer on this one. The Inkay evolution is one of the craziest methods out there, and I know I never would've figured it out on my own.

I think an evolution that would be cool to create would be a fusion evolution, like you could take three Magnemite at the appropriate level and the strongest one fuses with the other two to make a Magneton.

I remember that crazy evolution method for Inkay. It was something nice and an extra twist to make use of the 3DS's gyroscope feature. I think the hardest evolution method in my opinion is happiness, since you have to run or bike around like crazy and also try to avoid getting knocked out or hit with status conditions. Absolute hell you have to go through to make a Pokemon happy.

Seriously, that method to evolve Inkay ... I went to serebi and when I saw that, like ... My mouth opened so much and I was like "What in the hell"! But it's not hard to evolve!
I think I'm with Hikamaru! The hardest way to evolve a pokémon is through hapiness, it's a bit difficult, but nothing impossible!

Apart from trading, I actually like the added challenge of evolving a Pokemon. Having it evolve at a certain time of day and/or at a certain location is quite a nice touch, I believe. Trading and having to raise happiness can be annoying. Trading more so because there are a lot of people that just take your Pokemon from trade evolutions, and if you include the added time and effort into finding someone to trade with that is actually reliable can be a pain in the backside. Happiness can just take a while to do, using one Pokemon for a long time and giving it items to boost that can be bothersome, but I guess it's worth it in most cases. The reward feels a lot greater when the evolution is more challenging.

Most challenging method that i ever find is ''teaching the Pokémon certain move(s)'' As i need to train.....train and train my Pokemon until and unless It will learn that particular move it will make me angry after some point of the time :(

This thread, you beat me to it! Bye bye 50 points! :'(

So far the most challenging ones are those Pokémon who evolves at high level like Rufflet and Deino. There was a rumor saying that Sliggo evolves at Level 75, which proved to be fake. Nevertheless, searching for a rainy place to evolve it was hectic before post-game (There are days for Route 13 and Laverre City with no rain)!

Someone around the web also said that to evolve Eevee into Sylveon, it must have at least one Fairy type move and maximum friendship on PokéAmie. The latter part is obviously false, which I wasn't aware at the time, so it took me a long time to get my first ever Sylveon! :(

One thing I'll always admire about 4th gen is how many unique evolution methods it introduced! My favorite is the way Magneton evolves into Magnezone. Not even sure why, just always thought it was cool. I always try to figure out on my own which location it is that has the high electromagnetic resonance needed for it to evolve (only time I wasn't able to was in X and Y).

I've also always found it pretty cool that certain Pokes evolve into to prehistoric based Pokemon when they know Ancientpower.

And of course, holding the 3DS upside down for Inkay -> Malamar goes without saying haha.
