Modern Warfare 2

Having to unlock weapons (or items, etc) in a game is a poor way at extending the life of a game. If I want to use a specific weapon I shouldn't have to play X amount of hours or complete X amount of challenges.
There's a reason why a few of the recent fighting game releases (PSN/XBLA release of Marvel vs Capcom 2, and the upcoming Super Street Fighter IV for example) have everything unlocked from the beginning and that's the fact that people don't want to spend time on unlocking things they may or may not use very much just so they can get a game to 100% completion.

It's an archaic game mechanic that has become more redundant and tedious than entertaining. There really isn't much sense of satisfaction to having spent so many hours on unlocking an item.
My satisfaction (if any) comes from how I use the item during the game.
Unlocking things throughout the game is one of my favorite parts. It's nice having to work for something and then getting to use it. I can't say I've ever heard of anyone disliking unlockables in games unless they are ridiculously easy to get.

A lot of people who play Team Fortress 2 don't like unlockables as can be seen on the Steam forums and on the page I linked (every class milestone achievement unlocks a weapon) and the fact that VALVe implemented a drop system to randomly give a player an item (hat or weapon) to make it easier for someone to get all items.

I'd just be really bored not having anything to work for in a game and having it all given to me in the beginning. I guess this is why I like achievements since, to me, it's satisfying working for them and finally getting them. The only time I could maybe see myself wishing there wasn't anything to unlock is if I was the type of person that was casual and didn't play very much.

Starting to get a habit of forcing my rage into this thread, now for today's segment

TAC KNIFERS!! Oh they might be more annoying than glitchers just because IW actually meant for them to be able to do this. In a game earlier and two of the opposition team didn't use their primary all game. :l

On the plus side, I can finally admit the Scar-H is a good assault rifle. <3 my ACR too much to use it though.

I'm VERY suprised you've not heard about it before now to be perfectly honest.

Yes, it is a direct sequel to Cod4, with the only yet confirmed playable character as SAS Sgt. Gary 'Roach' Sanderson, with the main protagonist of it's prequel, Sgt. John 'Soap' McTavish having survived the events of the game's climax and is now your Captain.
dude, mctav is only the captain until you find captain price and then they refer to mctav as "soap" for the rest of the campaign. also there is pvt. allen until makarov kills him and then u play as roach in the tf 141 and ramirez in the army rangers

All you got to do is play the game to unlock the weapons, perks, attachments, etc. Camos is the only "hard" part due to the head shots that you got to do. I don't see any probs with the way CoD is when it comes to unlocking stuff, in fact I like it a lot better then say... Halo where it's all the same and everyone has the same weapons. Like Alex said, I enjoy unlocking a weapon and getting to use it.

I've never really had a prob with people using tac knives. I guess it's a bigger deal in free for all... but then again I've only seen a few people use it.

Way ahead of you. XD

Just used it now!
I wouldn't call that way ahead... but ok. XD

I have played this game so much that a DLC would really make my day... anyone else feel the same?

Everyone will think that, there's bound to be a few.

Wasn't there some XBL exclusive stuff too?

EDIT: Time for MW2 to become the ultimate FPS, early glitches being patched and I doubt many more will come up from now until CoD 8. Hope I get my 1887s before they get balanced though or I'll be mad. https://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=15961

I just had THE best game ever on Highrise.
Was playing TDM with the Mini-Uzi.
I got 3 Predator Missiles, 2 Attack Helicopters and a Chopper Gunner [Though, it didn't do much good, only got me 6 kills before someone shot me down].

The final score was 40 Kills, 8 Deaths.

It's times like these when I wish I owned a capture card.

My best game was the other day when I went 85-5 on Wasteland. I've also went 120-30 or so on Hardcore HQ on rust.

Unfortunately, I probably won't ever get scores like that because my preferred game mode is Team Deathmatch.

Yeah I used to play deathmatch but then switched to headquarters because deathmatch just doesn't last long enough. Not to mention every camps like crazy.

Im not sure if I approve of the Model 1887 being toned down. If thats the case then the Noobtube should be too.

I wish they'd just take the 1887s out. Unless they're comparable to the other shotguns, they're ridiculously overpowered and cheap.

And the only thing good about noobtubing is that they have a limited supply of them while alive, so it's not like they can just run around and constantly do that without dying, you know?

Some people use one man army pro, switch classes, and switch back, simply for the sake of respawning their tubes.

Well that should obviously be fixed, but I haven't seen a whole lot of tubers lately. But obviously something is going to be overpowered somehow, you know? If we want everything to be completely balanced, they could only offer one gun and one secondary gun with no upgrades. D:

Meh, I don't mind the power of the 1887s simple because they're unlocked a mere three levels from prestige. Sure, some people choose not to prestige immediately, but look at CoD:WaW. The MP40 was unlocked at level 10, and that gun was ridiculous. Everybody and their mothers went around spraying that thing. Plus I'm so close to level 67 and I kinda want to test them out. >_>

:P at the MP40 comment. I must admit, I was one of those annoying guys...

I just cant believe they are gonna patch the shotgun that I look forward to the most. Its so much fun killing people 15 feet away with a shotgun. Kinda similar to the use of a SPAS with ACOG on Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. That too was ridiculous.

I think it's time I started tryin' for mah nuke.
I'll try with the chopper gunner, methinks. If that doesn't work out, then I'll just switch to AC130 with my next unlock.
