Ruby Red Mono-Color Challenge - Completed
I started this right after I completed Fire Red, got three badges in one night and came back to it after a while. I beat Flannery on Wednesday night, then Thursday I got the last four badges and yesterday I finished training, so today I took on the league. Once again, as with Y and Fire Red, I was refusing to use any healing items in battle and was on the Set battle style.
So here was my final team:
Nature: Bashful
Obtained at: Mt. Pyre
Moves: Hi Jump Kick, Hyper Beam, Reflect, Shadow Ball (had Ice Punch over Hyper Beam before Steven)
Nature: Rash
Ability: Shell Armor
Obtained at: Petalburg City
Moves: Crunch, Hyper Beam, Surf, Swords Dance (had Ice Beam over Hyper Beam against Drake)
Nature: Gentle
Obtained at: Meteor Falls
Moves: Cosmic Power, Explosion, Reflect, Rock Slide (had Light Screen over Reflect before Steven)
Nature: Quirky
Obtained at: Route 112
Moves: Earthquake, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Rock Slide
Nature: Modest
Obtained at: Route 110
Moves: Giga Drain, Sleep Powder, SolarBeam, Sunny Day
Nature: Hasty
Obtained at: Route 101
Moves: Brick Break, Bulk Up, Flamethrower, Overheat (had Blaze Kick over Overheat before Steven)
Other Pokémon I used:
(F) "Minnow", Level 30
"Soundwave", Level 40
(F) "Smugmug", Level 30
Final playing time: 22:58 - There were at least 3 1/2 hours in between Flannery and Norman. When I made it through Victory Road I had 19 hours. Then, three hours went into final training, and I had 24 Rare Candies because of Pickup. 20 minutes after that were backtracking and getting TMs.
I'd say overall I definitely enjoyed Fire Red more, but this one had some fun fights, Norman being my favorite battle in the game. I'll probably get started on White soon.

Spoiler:
First we'll talk about the Gym Leaders.
Roxanne: All I had were Rustle (Combusken) and Swirly (Wurmple). Geodude was a cinch, and Nosepass went down in three turns of Double Kick, when she healed before the second.
MVP: Rustle, obviously.
Brawly: Both my main Pokémon were Level 18. Machop was barely a 3HKO from Peck from Minnow (Goldeen), and I had 2 HP left because of a crit. Makuhita was hit hard before it killed Minnow, but Rustle finished him with two hits of Double Kick.
MVP: Minnow.
Wattson: I had Rustle and Highweed at Level 23, Minnow at Level 21 and two death fodders. Magnemite was busted in one turn from two hits of Double Kick. When Voltorb came in, I sacrificed Trout as death fodder so I could bring in Highweed. He paralyzed me with Spark, but my Chesto Berry helped. I put him to sleep. Two hits of Bullet Seed did 1/4. Twice in a row. He woke up and then blew up. Magneton killed Highweed, but I brought in Rustle and managed to kill him with two turns of Double Kick.
MVP: Rustle I guess.
Flannery: My team was all around Level 26. Her two Slugma were easy kills for Eclipse (Solrock). When Torkoal came out, Minnow I pretty much had to let die since she paralyzed me with Body Slam. I then brought in Caldera, and got in two hits of Magnitude (6 and 7) to get her just below half before she killed me. I had Rustle weaken her a bit with some Embers, then she healed to full. Highweed put her to sleep, then I brought in Eclipse again. I missed with Rock Throw but made it up with a critical hit as she continued to snooze, then won.
MVP: Highweed? For putting her to sleep and saving Eclipse.
Norman: My entire team was 30. His first Slaking hit Highweed big with Facade, while I missed with Stun Spore first turn then put it to sleep. I managed to hit him with Stun Spore on the very turn he woke up. When Highweed died, he was at around 37% health, so Rustle just finished him off. Vigoroth did less than half to me with Facade, allowing me to just barely survive two hits and kill him with two turns of Double Kick. His second Slaking, I switched in Smugmug (Slugma), as he used Focus Punch and killed it in one hit, but Flame Body activated and burned him. I then had Caldera roughen him up a bit with Growl, and he still hit rather hard, but I lived. He had half his health left, and I got Magnitude 9 AND a critical hit, then after he loafed he died to burn damage.
MVP: There was no one MVP, everyone did good here, except Minnow and Eclipse who didn't get any screentime.
Winona: My entire team was 32/33. Swellow and Skarmory were OHKO'd by Soundwave (Electrode)'s Thunderbolt. I missed with Screech against Altaria, then I brought in Eclipse and avoided her Earthquake. Thankfully, Rock Throw was a 2HKO. I had to switch in Soundwave again, but she used Supersonic, so I had to go back to Eclipse, although I got in Soundwave again on a Protect and killed her.
MVP: Soundwave, obviously. Eclipse was co-MVP for beating Altaria.
Tate and Liza: My entire team was 37. They were faster than Fisticuffs (Medicham) and Cluster (Crawdaunt), and put the latter to sleep, but the former did half to Solrock with Shadow Ball. I switched out Cluster for Highweed, who took Solarbeam for no damage at all. Lunatone then used Calm Mind before Solrock was downed. Highweed was OHKO'd by +1 Psychic while Shadow Ball did a little more to Lunatone than it did to Solrock. Before I could finish them, Lunatone hit Fisticuffs with Hypnosis. They healed, and Double Kick wasn't doing much at all. When it killed Rustle, it was around 1/3 health. But then Fisticuffs woke up and killed it with Shadow Ball, getting the critical hit on the last turn, much to my infuriation.
MVP: I guess Fisticuffs for his strong Shadow Ball.
Wallace: My entire team was Level 40. Luvdisc was OHKO'd by Soundwave's Thunderbolt. After that, Whiscash came out. I brought in Highweed, as his Earthquake did around 40% of my health. He was faster and used Amnesia, but I still hit very hard with Giga Drain. He healed, then I killed him with Bullet Seed and had 2/3 my health left. Next was Sealeo. I hit with Sleep Powder and set up Sunny Day afterward, as Giga Drain knocked him low. Aurora Beam did a bit less than half, then I killed him. He then went for Milotic. Yowza! Giga Drain did a bit less than half, as he used Ice Beam for 2/3 my health. Thankfully I hit with Sleep Powder. As he snoozed I used Sunny Day again, then softened him up with Bullet Seed as to keep him from healing. He woke up though, and killed me with Ice Beam. Just for that, I brought in Fisticuffs, and he was faster than her as well, but Ice Beam did less than half and I killed him with Hi Jump Kick. Lastly was Seaking, who took over half from Hi Jump Kick but used Rain Dance, and he used Water Pulse and confused me, but I hit through confusion and killed him.
MVP: I guess Highweed?
For the Elite Four, my entire team was 51, and I traded Cluster over to my Fire Red version so she could learn Crunch.
Sidney: I started with Caldera to absorb Mightyena's Intimidate. He began with Crunch and lowered my Special Defense right off the bat, but Fire Blast was an OHKO. For Sharpedo, I switched out to Highweed, took a Surf easily, avoided his Swagger and killed him with Giga Drain. When Shiftry came out, I brought in Rustle as he used Double Team, I missed Flamethrower and he used it again but I hit next turn to kill him. Absol and Cacturne were OHKO'd by (two hits of) Double Kick and Flamethrower respectively.
MVP: Rustle
Phoebe: Her first Dusclops was OHKO'd by BlackGlasses boosted Crunch. Sableye was 2HKO'd by Surf, taking little damage from Shadow Ball along the way. She wasted a Full Restore there. Both her Banette were faster and the first lowered my Special Defense with Shadow Ball, but Crunch was an OHKO on both. Her second Dusclops wasn't quite OHKO'd by Crunch, but her Sitrus Berry knocked her above the healing point and I killed her.
MVP: Cluster
Glacia: Her first Glalie was OHKO'd by Rustle's Flamethrower. Her first Sealeo wasn't OHKO'd by Brick Break, but she used Hail, then healed, which gave me a chance to use Bulk Up. I then OHKO'd everything else of hers with Brick Break (he grew to Level 52 after killing her second Sealeo).
MVP: Rustle
Drake: I started with Eclipse as he began with Shelgon. I used Cosmic Power on his Protect, and he tried to use it again but that didn't work. Rock Slide (Hard Stone boosted) did less than half, though. I used it again, but he used Rock Tomb and lowered my Speed. I was still faster and killed him with Rock Slide.
After that was Salamence, who used Crunch, which did a bit below half my remaining health, but thanks to Intimidate I did less than half. I survived his next Crunch with 3 HP, and after Rock Slide his Sitrus Berry knocked him above where he'd heal. I brought in Caldera, and he used Dragon Claw for literally just above half my health before I killed him. Then came one of his Flygon, which straight up killed me with Dig. I brought in Fisticuffs, and he used Sandstorm. Ice Punch did more than enough for a 2HKO, but I was left with a bit over half when Altaria came out. For that, he used Dragonbreath and paralyzed me as my Ice Punch did half on the dot. He then killed me with Take Down. I killed him with Cluster's Ice Beam. His last Flygon was no problem either. I had the Quick Claw, which certainly helped.
MVP: Not sure, I guess Cluster for the Quick Claw activations, and Eclipse was co-MVP.
I gave Overheat to Rustle before entering Steven's room, and adjusted my TMs a bit more. Here we go!
Champion Steven: Skarmory was OHKO'd by Rustle's Overheat. And I grew to Level 53 afterward haha.
Aggron wasn't quite OHKO'd by Brick Break, and he used Earthquake. First time he killed me in one hit with a critical, so I immediately reset because I wanted Overheat for Metagross. Second time, I lived with less than 2/3 my health and used Bulk Up as he healed, then killed him.
He then used Metagross. My Special Attack was halved, so I had to let someone die. Caldera was OHKO'd with a critical hit Psychic (seriously?!). I brought in Rustle again and OHKO'd him with a Blaze boosted Overheat.
Then was Armaldo. I brought in Highweed, as he used Water Pulse for virtually no damage whatsoever. He then used Aerial Ace and hit rather hard, leaving me below half, but I used Sunny Day. (A Miracle Seed boosted) Giga Drain did less than half but allowed me to survive another Aerial Ace with 10 HP, and thus kill him with SolarBeam next turn.
After that was Claydol, ugh. SolarBeam was a straight up OHKO though, which was awesome.
Last was Cradily. SolarBeam did half before he killed me with Sludge Bomb. I brought in Rustle and killed him with Brick Break, ending the battle. And I grew to Level 54, haha.
MVP: Rustle, but Highweed was definitely co-MVP for surviving Aerial Ace after Giga Drain and then killing Claydol in one hit.
Roxanne: All I had were Rustle (Combusken) and Swirly (Wurmple). Geodude was a cinch, and Nosepass went down in three turns of Double Kick, when she healed before the second.
MVP: Rustle, obviously.

Norman: My entire team was 30. His first Slaking hit Highweed big with Facade, while I missed with Stun Spore first turn then put it to sleep. So here was my final team:
