Ugh -- no! It's visually unappealing, hard to decipher, and all around "eeuw." I can't help but cringe when I see "lol hi der im lucy q n am 12 n I lyk luvluvluv peekachu!!!1!11" What they fail to go onto to say is "I hate caps lock, I murdered my shift key, and things like punctuation and spelling make my brain hurt too much to use it to any major extent."

Granted, I'm very biased. Major/serious usage of chatspeak has always bothered me. Even when I was a kid, I would edit things as I read. (My mother is a writer/editor, so sue me.) Heck, I'm guilty of littering my writing with hearts and certain types of smilies. Yes, I make typos and misspell things and I don't also remember where the period belongs in a quotation. Sometimes I even use "zomg/wth/etc." It's not too common, but they're there.

I mean, I can understand using things like "zomg" or what-have-you sparingly, but it really isn't that hard to just write "Hi there! I'm Lucy Q and I'm 12. I love Pikachu!" I don't care if you throw in an occasional "lol," even, so long as it is a casual setting. I go to an online school and we have group discussion boards where we sometimes have to post assignments. Even in English class for major projects, I see chatspeak, inane misspellings, and an apparent hatred of spaces or paragraphs, just to mention a few.

I love the English language. I'm not a fanatic, but I try not to abuse it too much. <3

Reading this back over, I sound kind of mean. Not bashing those who chatspeak, per se, just not exactly favouing/approving of it.

Anybody who knows me knows I despise it. I mean "lyke" is so freaking stupid. And that one sentence I can't even stand to hear, "I herd u liek mudkipz." Seriously, what the flip is up with that? Plus, like is the same number of letters, so why can't they just type it normal.

And "lul." GAH, I DESPISE THAT. "lol" is easier to type, so why can't people type that? I'm just sick of how people think it is cool. It's not, seriously.

Let's just say I don't hate people who type like that, but I find it incredibly hard to like them.

...lul

XD Anyway, I never talk like that. I always prefer to type things out, it's much more pleasing to the eye. The one thing I WILL do though, is when I'm texting I'll do things like type though as "tho". I try to avoid things like that in messengers and forums though O:

yeaya i lyk so typ lyk dat all da time

I only do that when I'm texting (to save room of course!) and occasionally on MSN. Generally I type things out in full now.

LOL I ALWAIZ TYP LYKE DEEZ CUZ IZZA SO FOONI.

But I only think it's funny when the person who types like that is one of the people who can actually type like a normal person with an IQ higher then 0. Otherwise, it's just sort of painful for me when I see other people type like that.

And I like to type in chatspeak sometimes because chatspeak can get the more hyper message across better then one that's been spelled out all the way. :3 And it's like... learning a fourth language for me. xD

It's actually really hard for me to figure out how to type some things in n00bspeak. xD

It depends how I feel... I might type like that a little bit but not that much really. Isn't typing like that close to 1337?...actually, I do type like that when I try to be 1337 but I normally phail D:

I hate when people do it without noticing, because it's damn hard to understand.
Obviuosly, if someone does it just joking, I don't care, but I never do it. Maybe because it's really difficult for me writing weird...

lol ya i type lk dat all da tyme

iz it weerd?

lol i lik it

so wutz ^

Sometimes I type like that as a joke.

...I can't bear seeing that happen to my native language for real. D:

No I don't, I think it is quite lazy and to be honest I wouldn't of thought a second of doing it. It is very noobish, and makes people look really dumb doing it. No offense but it does and there may be many people who disagree but I'm sticking with my opinions.

It took me a few minutes of staring at it to determine what the topic title said. It's obvious from that that I don't use "text speak", even while texting. It drives my friends insane, I'm sure. They'll write a simple sentence or word and I'll respond with a long paragraph.

But yes, seeing the English language tortured like so makes me want to cry.

I never text or talk on MSN like that. I always put things properly. I can't read it that well either. So if I get one like it I never reply to it. Well I don't talk to anyone but my GF anyway. And she never sends ones like that.

>.< The forums I come from know this as 'teenie talk', although it is often written as 't33ni3 t4lk' to annoy people. I generally always write in full sentences, unless of course I'm joking, like some other people have said. I'm a bit OTT about grammar, particularly in formal text; bad grammar in things like letters, leaflets, and magazines makes me really, inexplicably mad. Poor English language *pets*.

I only type like that in text messages.

Even on MSN I pay attention to all grammar rules.
