Ugh -- no! It's visually unappealing, hard to decipher, and all around "eeuw." I can't help but cringe when I see "lol hi der im lucy q n am 12 n I lyk luvluvluv peekachu!!!1!11" What they fail to go onto to say is "I hate caps lock, I murdered my shift key, and things like punctuation and spelling make my brain hurt too much to use it to any major extent."
Granted, I'm very biased. Major/serious usage of chatspeak has always bothered me. Even when I was a kid, I would edit things as I read. (My mother is a writer/editor, so sue me.) Heck, I'm guilty of littering my writing with hearts and certain types of smilies. Yes, I make typos and misspell things and I don't also remember where the period belongs in a quotation. Sometimes I even use "zomg/wth/etc." It's not too common, but they're there.
I mean, I can understand using things like "zomg" or what-have-you sparingly, but it really isn't that hard to just write "Hi there! I'm Lucy Q and I'm 12. I love Pikachu!" I don't care if you throw in an occasional "lol," even, so long as it is a casual setting. I go to an online school and we have group discussion boards where we sometimes have to post assignments. Even in English class for major projects, I see chatspeak, inane misspellings, and an apparent hatred of spaces or paragraphs, just to mention a few.
I love the English language. I'm not a fanatic, but I try not to abuse it too much. <3

Reading this back over, I sound kind of mean. Not bashing those who chatspeak, per se, just not exactly favouing/approving of it.
