True, idk how to describe it but some shinies feel like they didn't know what to do and just used a random colour scheme, or it's just nauseating to look at (shiny misdreavus for example). Honestly I agree with the identical shinies, the only exception is Skitty since despite the shiny one looking very similar to the og, Skitty looks very cute either way so it doesn't bother me much
I'm sorry people called you weird for liking "girly" things, that's very messed up and enforced the fact that certain things can only be enjoyed by a certain gender which is just wrong and also pointless, people can like what they want and it's none of our business :D ironically little me was onto something when I started questioning if I was even a girl, just for the wrong reasons. Tbh I'm really glad Pokémon started being marketed towards general audiences, if they still marketed like how they did in the 90s we wouldn't have starters like Primarina or Meowscarada, and that's just not acceptable >:c

Even if they weren't sure what to do with a lot of them, I still wish they'd have done something, instead of just ever so slightly changing the color tones on them. >.> I'd personally rather them all have unflattering colors that were completely different over barely any changes at all. In Skitty's case, at least its evolution's colors are diffrent, so it gets a pass lol.
It really bothered me back then, but thankfully I've gotten over it since. It did teach me a good lesson of letting others like what they like and to not treat them like those other people treated me, though, so it wasn't completely bad. I'm sorry your experience made you question yourself for the wrong reasons, but it's awesome you've managed to find who you really are in spite of how the people in your life treated you. And yeah, less caring about pointlessly gendering stuff will always be a win in my book, and it's great the Pokemon series came around to that way of thinking eventually!

OK! I can suggest Solar Light - Lunar Dark ; Zeta / Omicron ; Insurgence (personal favourite ^^) ; and if you are into top level battles, Reborn (also with hairpulling puzzles) and Desolation (not finished but already dozens of hours of playing)!
