What are you guys' take on live action? Personally, I haven't seen any, but the opinions are very love or hate. Not really many middle grounders
I've seen Death Note movies and... well... it was pretty good.
But Japanese aren't good in live action, that's why they make anime =D

Your comment on ''trendy drama style'' was pretty funny. Or maybe you're right and what I see as unnatural is actually 2deep4me and I should stick to CSI.

That's not what I was getting at, it is an actual style.

But Japanese aren't good in live action, that's why they make anime =D
Kurosawa and Kitamura would like to have a word with you. (but no, really, the world of live action Japanese shows and movies is pretty awesome)

lol, I think a few more people than those two would like a word. A majority of their population would. Anime is just as niche over there as it is here, and it's looked down in even more.

Please explain the hallmarks of this Japanese acting style. I'm no expert in this but I do understand that different situations require different styles, be it tv drama, polished blockbuster or something on stage. I'm a fan of old British series where the style was far different to what you get with something like The Sopranos or any Hollywood movie so I highly doubt it was that.

If this Japanese acting style aims to be as corny as possible whilst showing the minimum amount of emotion then they have it down. It is usually in the lower budget anime/manga adaptations hence why I presumed it was bad acting. Thankfully I'm not one of those people that believes everything that comes out of Japan is superior to the west.

The only jap movies and drama I've seen are Death Note's movies and Liar Game drama. Both were pretty good. But I'm not big on movies in general so I stick to regular western tv shows and anime/manga. :v

Gonna watch Akira and Grave of the Fireflies soon.

I like plenty of Japanese TV dramas, but as far as one's based on anime.. those are usually more corny, and harder to find ones that are really good. However, I did like the Death Note movies more than the actual anime / manga series.

Though, Hana Yori Dango was first Asian drama back some years ago, and I also think it's tons better than it's anime / manga. I really liked that series. The anime and manga were both early 90's, though, soooo it holding a candle to a 2005-2007 drama series is a long shot.

Not fond of J-LA. There's enough regular films already.

Also didn't know this hidden gem existed. Wish I can read moonrunes so I can read the original 5 volume Novel. Apparently the author was a JSDF soldier.

Touches allthe right notes. A dash of IR, some Military techno-wank, and Fantasy RPG elements LOL.

The manga's ok, but it tilts a bit much on Otaku pandering. Read, that the original Long Novel was more in-depth though.

Grave of the Fireflies was super. Not a massive fan of the Akira film but it did look and sound fantastic, think I'll read the manga for that soon actually.

As far as non airing anime goes I'm watching Macross 7 atm, one of the goofiest series I've ever seen. Even though the main girl is annoying as hell I am enjoying it.

Seita's pride certainly screwed them over, he was just a young kid though himself, so it didn't really bother me. That being said, at 14 I certainly wouldn't have made the same mistakes.

There's a difference between not liking bottom of the barrel LN crap and not liking popular things. Please learn the difference.

Speaking about live action stuff, has anyone seen the Hentai Kamen movie? I must say that it's one of the best new movies I've ever seen (close second to Singham).

Singham? LMFAO, the one where the indian police officer beats the crap outta some baddies in the most over the top manner while defying physics? XD

The only live action movies I see myself seeing anytime soon are the Kenshin movie and Kaiji movies.

Live action movies make me cringe >< It could be because I'm used to the style of North American films, and can't appreciate Japanese acting, but I would never go near anything live action :c

The only live action adaptation I've ever seen was the Initial D movie. As expected from a chinese based adaptation it had cheesy and bad story but the action more or less made up for it.

I totally agree with the DCC title thread LOL.

And action live movies of anime? I don't think I've seen any... not sure haha :P

But I know that I most likely won't like them xD

Also... I just started watching Highschool of the Dead and it's pretty awesome! :D (Me being a zombie fan) buuuut... the huge downside is all the boobs and panty shots, they even had a scene where we actually see full breast and whatnot. I mean.. jeez, I get it it's for to please fan service but cmon >.>

That sounds fine but nobody was ever going to live up to Eleven Nonon. Certainly not as bad as the bashing I'm sure it's getting right now. Not going to check for that though.
