5th Gen Official English Name Discussion

The city names are wonderful, I think. The leaders' names are... a bit weird. Burgh because of Bug type, naturally, but it doesn't sound very good.

And most pokémon names are cool, but some are really crappy. But I guess that's true for every region.
 
I like all of the new names so far. The only ones I'd really say I don't like are Roggenrola, Pidove and Ghetsis. Idk they all just seem really weird to say, and I'm not entirely sure what Roggenrola is supposed to mean.
 
More news in: Purrloin, Audino, Cinccino, Emolga, Galvantula, Haxorus, Fraxure, Liepard, Herdier, Sawsbuck and Yamask have been confirmed.

Attacks whose names got changed:
-Canon/Sing Around becomes "Round."
-Retaliation is now "Retaliate"
-Healing Wave is now "Heal Pulse"
-Elecball is now "Electro Ball"
-Boiling Water is now "Scald"
-Evil Eye is now "Hex"
-Wood Horn is now "Horn Leech"

Abiliites:
-Tension is now "Unnerve"
-Regeneration is now "Regenerator"

Out of the names, I like Horn Leech and Electra Ball. I find Scald, Hex and Round strange names.
 
I'm so glad my Denchura finally got confirmed and now I can call it its real name Joltik is better >>.

Mervyn will be glad Regeneration is changed. XD

THEY RUINED BOILING WATER?! BOILING WATER SOUNDED PERFECT AS IT IS. Omg this is terrible. :(((
 
Scald does sound weird to me, but I will no doubt get use to it. Have to agree I like Electro/Electra (which is it? =p) Ball as well.
 
I'm liking some of the names but one of the cities just sounds like something a girl does once a month...
 
What? Scald sounds so much better than Boiling Water. When I think, "Use Boiling Water!" I see a Pokemon throwing a pot of boiling water at another Pokemon. :/ Scald actually sounds like a real Pokemon move.
 
But scald doesn't sound like water + fire. Boiling water is associated with heat (boiling) and water (water).

(Maybe I just like the two words together I dunno)

Scald can be used in another context, too :(

But to be scalded is to be burned by really hot water or steam so I guess both types are sort of being included if you think about it.

To be burned by it = fire.
The fact that you're being burned by water = water.

Boiling Water just seems like a silly name for a move. At least the visual I get with it is. xD

It's "Electro Ball." I made a typo in my last post.

I wish that Boiling Water kept its name instead of getting "Scald." But Scald makes sense.

Dragon Tail keeps its Japanese name as well.
 
Healing Beam = Heal Pulse?

Geeze, I didnt realize that the U.S was so obsessed with the word "Pulse". And I have a feeling that Im going to be spamming Dragon Tail in Black.
 
Scald is wayyy better than Boiling Water (Which makes me think of a pot of water boiling.), not to mention it makes to burn yourself with hot water...
 
Am I the only one who cringed at the English names?
They seem to be something along the lines of bad puns and very simple. No real thought seemed to go in to many of them...
Some are alright, like Emolga, but then they put in names like Throh. Yeah... painful.
 
I cringed at a lot of the names when it was all released. Something feels odd, oddly new and oddly different about these names to me. :c

It's not really inaccurate; it's consistent on NoA's part.

いやしのはどう

いやし (Iyashi) = Heal
の (no) = usually of/'s; can be ignored in a case like this.
はどう (hadou) = Pulse/Aura/Wave, etc.

Hadou is in all the other "Pulse" moves; Dragon, Dark, Water, etc.

The only time Hadou's been translated/adapted differently is for Aura Sphere. With Hadou = Aura.

I kinda like it now :) Blair isn't justified though, I strongly dislike it now. Like other said, Blake would have worked great!

Then we'd have a Black Meadow and a White Meadow. But if a male name could mean Black or Dark city, then we'd have Black City and White Forest as names xD
