5th Gen Official English Name Discussion

Oh, gym leader names, eh?

Lenora (Aloe) - A good name. And it includes Nora, like I had guessed.
Burgh (Arti) - I'm not sure I like it. I like that they were trying to mix 'bug' and 'berg' since he's the gym leader of the biggest city, but it's just a little too flat and awkward for a name.
Elesa (Kamitsure) - Meh. It's okay.
Clay (Yacon) - A second mostly correct guess on my part. I'd prefer if it were Clayton though because it's got two syllables and that sounds better to me. Still, I like it.
Skyla (Fuuro) - I'm going to go against the crowd here. I don't like it. Way too predictable.
Brycen (Hachiku) - Another 'ice' name? We already have Pryce and Candice. Not different enough.
Drayden (Shaga) - Quite nice. It's not only got the 'dra-' from dragon, but the dragon's 'den'.


And I've got guesses for the Elite Four:

Caitlin
Shikimi - I'd like it to be Carmen (karma)
Renbu - I want it to be Jude (judo) but it'll probably be Marshall (martial).
Giima - I really want it to be Mr. Darcy (dark). Please let it be that.

Cilan/Chili/Cress - I was somewhat impressed by these names. xDD;; They really fit.
Lenora (Aloe) - Hmmm. I actually like Lenora better than Aloe. xD;
Burgh (Arty) - ... I swear, when I saw this name, the picture of some guy vomiting popped into my head. ._.
Why couldn't they just keep it Arty?
Elesa (Kamitsure) - This is a nice name. =w=
Clay (Yacon) - It fits! It really does! Nice and simple, as well! |D
Skyla (Fuuro) - A little uncreative, but it's all good. xDD;;
Brycen (Hachiku) - It's alright. That's all.
Drayden (Shaga) - Ehhh, I don't like the character himself, but this name is good for him. xDD;;
Iris - IRISSSS! |D
 
Serperior, is that a beast name or what? Actually I might even nickname it later on.

okay so this is my opinions on the new gym leaders, that I had posted else where somewhere else ;)

The only really terrible English name is Burgh... It sounds like a noise you would made when you have a throat problem XD Arti was a thousand times better and the name Arti suited his appearance. Burgh... Urgh.

The name Skyla was a no brainer, so I am happy.

Clay sounds really strange, but so did Crasher Wake and he is now one of my favourites.

Chili, Cilan and Cress are all okay, I have no problems there.

Lenora is... well nice but Aloe was a waaaay better name IMO. Aloe sounded so nice for her >:(

Elesa is pretty cool, I was hoping for Electra or Eliza or something more electric sounding.

Bryce is okay, I would have liked it is he was just called Bryce though.


I loved that Iris was kept, and Drayden is pretty cool.
Dragon omega-- Nimbassa is named after a type of cloud iirc called Nimbus or something.
 
I don't know if I should believe the Gym Leaders' names or not because they were leaked.

Anyway, more names have been revealed thanks to the B/W mall tours:

Places:
-Raimon City is now "Nimbasa City"
-Sekka City is now "Icirrus City"
-Dragon Spiral Tower has the first 2 parts merged into one word (Dragonspiral Tower)

Attacks:
-Grass Mixer is now "Leaf Tornado"
-Nitro Charge is now "Flame Charge"
-Shell Blade is now "Razor Shell"

(sorry if anyone already knows these)
 
Oh so Icirrus is confirmed now? Maybe PokeJungle's entire list will get confirmed.

PokeJungle also states "Allegedly the main characters names are Blair and Whitlea (Black and White respectively)."

I really do hope not.

Actually, Emboar,Haxourus, Fraxour(lolwut?) and some of the others sound prettly good.
Though AXEW?AXEW?!?I mean, COME ON. TEPIG is just thepig without the h. Thank GOD they kept Zorua and Zoroark, 'cause if they were littlewolf and bigwolf I woud've raged.

I think Nintendo has forgotten the whole point of pokemon was to have fun, not teach 4 year olds how to play the DS and say Alamoramora as "AL-SOMETHING-MORA", causing a massive outbreak of screaming the word ALSOMETHINGMORA in the car and crashes will happen a lot more in 2011 than in 2010.

This is just stupid. No one's gonna crash because there kid says "Al-Something-Mora." Considering it's not that hard to say its just Ala with Moramora on the end?
 
Blair and Whitlea. I'll like them but I wanted something wild. I'd have prefered like Touya and Touko maybe Terry and Teri, Sam and Samanth, something along those lines. I like how they create Whitlea, but the lea sounds too much like ney of Whitney. Maybe Whitsa or just a different suffix would have been better :) Blair reminds of of Tony Blair which is bad. But I'll get used to it, I'm naming him after myself anyway.
 
Should have been BLAKE & WHITLEY but whatever...

PS. Isnt Alamoramora 11 characters? Oh, it's Alomomola, you guys were misspelling it lol

...and I was like wtf for Whitlea. I was hoping for a... normal sounding name.

Oh my goodness... I wouldn't be surprised if many others here on PC have spotted this. It's the list of town names! Alright... so we know that Striaton City, Nacrene City, Castelia City, Nimbasa City and Icirrus City have been confirmed... but I could take a guess in exactly what towns those English names could be.

My guesses are...

Nuvema Town = Kanawa Town
Striaton City = Sanyou City (already confirmed)
Nacrene City = Shippou City (already confirmed)
Castelia City = Hiun City (already confirmed)
Nimbasa City = Raimon City (already confirmed)
Undella Town = Kanoko Town
Lacunosa Town = Karakusa Town
Opelucid City = Hodomoe City
Icirrus City = Sekka City (already confirmed)
Mistralton City = Souryuu City
Driftveil City = Fukiyose City

You can go as many different guesses as you wish. Just remember... I don't even know what the English town name's possition is, so it could be likely I'd get some of them wrong. But hey, Mistralton City sounds great as a name for Souryuu City, because it sound like... "Mysterious". xD But hey... Driftveil sounds also like a good name for Fukiyose City, because it sound like "drifting across the sky". lol

I'm okay with the names revealed at the tour yesterday. Except for Whitlea, that doesn't even look like a real name. A bad attempt at trying to keep the Black/White theme in the character names. Blair, I'm cool with; looks like a real name, gets the job done.

Also, I think Artie should've kept his name; that's the only Gym Leader name that made me go "what the ****?"

I'm gonna make some predictions for the Elite 4 Names:

Libby: From Libitina, a Roman goddess of corpses.

Devlin: Referencing the possible Aku"ma" (Devil, also fitting with the whole Dark-type idea) in Giima.

Caitlin: Already confirmed, same as the Frontier Brain Caitlin.

Marshall: From Martial Arts.

I can't think of a name for Adeku. But, those are all names that I would adapt them to be.
 
Blair is alright... But Whitlea is just beyond strange. The name even looks bad XD

I love the name Mistralton city. It is like the most normal name in B/W XD It just sounds so modern and advanced, like some major city.
 
Yagaruma Forest is now Pinwheel Forest.

...strange name, but since I didn't pay attention to the original name, yeaaah doesn't matter that much to me. :D
 
Yeah, more names for Citys and Places are now becoming unveiled, although I don't really see why they called it Pinwheel Forest, but it's okay.
 
I like the Gym Leaders name's they are really cool! They are very creative as well. My favorite new names are Skyla, Elesa and Brycen.I like Ghetsis, it sounds very evil to me. If Blair and Whitlea are the Boy and Girls names those are cool as well. I really like all the names of the towns and cities, they are really cool! Pinwheel Forest is a cool name! I hope other non-city or towns have cool names like this.
 
I really like Pinwheel Forest. It really fits the mysterious, quiet atmosphere there.
My favourite city names are Mistralton and Driftveil. Mistralton sounds curious and Driftveil is pleasant. It sounds heavenly, too. ~
