5th Gen Official English Name Discussion

Some of the names aren't as impressive as expected some are very abbrupt ans short, however, it's not really about the names, it's about the gameplay, but it would be nice if they had better names for the ones that aren't so good.

Can't believe it's only 23 days untill B/W release, don't know where those 30 days have gone, January went so quick and now it's almost 9th Feb, I love counting down for B/W :)!

So it's been announced on Serebii that Aloe's name is Lenora, I like it, it's not the worst of some of the names, and it's kinda similar to Aloe?

Pokémon Black & White -Gym Leader Name
A Swedish game pamphlet advertising the upcoming games has confirmed the English Language name for the second Gym leader. This Gym Leader is the Normal-type Gym Leader and is based within Nacrene City. This Gym Leader, Aloe, changes to the name Lenora within localised versions of the games. We'll bring more as and when we can.

Gym Leaders

Dento, Poddo, Koon - Cilan, Chili, Cress
Aloe - Lenora
Arty - Burgh
Kamitsure - Elesa
Yacon - Clay
Fuuro - Skyla
Hachiku - Brycen
Iris, Shaga - Iris, Drayden

Elite Four and Champion

Shikimi - Shauntal
Giima - Grimsley
Renbu - Marshal
Katorena - Caitlin
Adeku - Alder

Also Geechisu is now Ghetsis.

What to say, the names in bold are my favs, especially Drayden <3

I quite like the elite four names, Marshal is probably my favourite....although there's a quirkyness to Shauntal and Grimsley that's nice too.
 
Shauntal, Marshal? I dont like them. Alder noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Adeku was the single most awesome name ever
 
I love the English names for the Elite Four, some nice little play on words in them such as Alder sounding much like 'Elder' (or maybe something plant related...?)

Anyway, I also like how some characters have kept their names when it deemed neccessary, such as Cheren (gotta love that guy's name!)
 
Looks like I predicted Marshal correctly, except there was a second l at the end. Looks like they wanted to make it look more "Black" for lack of a better phrase. I know that's totally ignorant; but, ah well.

Shauntal for Shikimi was not expected at all.
 
Shauntal sounds awesome if I'm pronouncing it right.

"Grimsley", is the worst possible name ever. DISGUSTING. :(
 
How is "Shauntal" pronounced? Shawn-tall or Shawn-tell? ...... Or is it Shawn-tull???

Whitlea and Blakely are much too abrupt an unharmonious. Blair and Blake are boring but much more neutral and easier on the tongue.

Can they come up with anything other than Brycen? Every ice type gym leader has the sound "ice" in their name. At least Hoenn was clever enough to think of Glacia for the E4.

The new Elite Four names are pretty cool :D
Shauntal is nice, and it's clever how they included "Haunt" in there, and Grimsley suits Grimsley. Marshall was pretty obvious, but it suits him, and Alder is all right. I hate Ghetsis though. I would honestly have prepared "Getis", because the "s" just sounds really weird in there.

They should've just gotten rid of the "n" and the name would've been fine.

The official B/W site updated with a bunch of names we already knew such as Haxorus, etc.

They should have kept Gehtis as Gehtis or even more simplified Getis. It's obvious they were going for something like the Japanese name for him... so why not use the Japanese name rather than making harder to read/pronounce than it was originally.

Burgh is absolutely terrible. It sounds like throwing up for some reason. Skyla and Drayden, on the other hand, are very cool.

Ghetsis may have a part of "Genesis" in it.

I like Marshall's new name because it matches his specialty. Grimsley makes me think of vampires.
 
The Elite Four names are a little disappointing at first glance, but aren't so bad that I can't get used to them. They're already starting to grow on me a little. Shauntal especially.

I think they're running out of good tree names because Alder doesn't sound very champion-esque to me.
