If these games are taking place in Hoenn, then like past remakes we could get to explore those unidentified Islands at the southern end of the Region perhaps?

OR/AS Chit Chat + CoroCoro Discussion

    Oh my god, yes please.

It would be neat if we finally got to explore those islands.. ten years later - but hey. XD

  • I think there will be a Mega Swampert and Mega Sceptile because Blaziken already got one :3

That makes sense. Looks like Mega Blaziken was foreshadowing the other MEvos and thus these games. Hopefully they take the chance to give Sceptile another lease on life.

I'm pretty stoked for these games, so hopefully they don't drain the magic RSE always had.

  • Has anyone thought that maybe there will be no mega evolutions? Just because there were megas in x and y doesn't mean it'll be in gen 3 that is, if these are remakes.

  • Hope they don't screw this up, I'm happy and all, but it's risky, because if they screw this up, all them nostalgic folks will throw themselves off a bridge.

Everyone should just calm down and wait to see what happens...

I seriously don't want any mega evolutions though. :/
    But going by this image...
it would make sense for Groudon/Kyogre and Rayquaza to have Megas.

    What's wrong with mega evos?

Hold on a second, didn't you mentioned last time that what kept GF from making Hoenn remakes is due to the GBA games still being compatible to the newer games in terms of transfer, which is still working today?
Gad no. You must have me confused with someone else.

I've always thought that that whole "issue" of whether or not the pokemon from one gen can be transferred to another is nonsense.

Now I'm seeing you praising the announcement of Hoenn remakes despite XY still capable of receiving Pokemon transferred from past gen games?
Again - I think the whole "issue" is nonsense. I couldn't care less, and I'm sure that GF couldn't either. The only issue is whether or not current technology is sufficient to create a game that would update the originals enough to be successful, and with the 3DS, that's a resounding "yes."

Everyone must also remember how half of the region is covered in water with nothing important to explore, and let's not forget the horrendus type diversity was in Hoenn's dex, which gave gym leaders and Elite Four members poor rosters by using 2-3 Pokemon from the same family line (Glacia being the worst example). Knowing past remakes, they'll keep it that way until post-game, which I despise, because I want more Pokemon added into the Hoenn dex and have better rosters right from the get-go, so what's the point for me being excited about these remakes if these problems from the original weren't fixed like the previous two remakes before it?
Why does "everyone" have to "remember" your opinions? Do you think we have to share them or something?

Sorry, but I have absolutely no interest in sharing either your misery or your pessimism.

Am I the only one who thinks these are no remakes?

It would be incredibly lazy of Gamefreak to just make remakes after two of them, and after they introduced Mega Evolutions. I'm pretty sure Groudon and Kyogre will get Megas, and Lati@s Megas are for those games instead of being events.

Make no mistake, these are new adventures. Which is what I always expected to happen if Gamefreak decided to revisit Hoenn (I was always a doubter). Not remakes, completely new games.
    Wow.

First - I didn't expect Pinkie-Dawn to be so distressingly bitter and spiteful about this announcement, but second, I DID expect you to be. Apparently I was wrong on both counts. Though I would say that describing yourself as a "doubter" is a bit disingenuous. I can't even count how many times over the years I've been reading through a thread here on pretty much any topic, only to see you show up to post something about how much you hate RSE.

But anyway - you're certainly not the only one who expects something other than remakes. And I think it's definitely the most likely scenario, not simply because of mega-evos, but because of all the new things that have been introduced since RSE. They're certainly going to want to include at least some of those features, and it'll be awkward at best to just shoehorn them into the original stories, so it's far more likely that they'll tell entirely new stories and just base them in Hoenn.

I don't know why I'm being so anal about them. It's just that Game Freak's "mega evolution-needing radar" never seems to hit the right targets. (Did Garchomp need a mega evolution?)

Also, I agree about GF taking a risk. If they don't nail this, it could be a disaster.

  • I have to agree. The reason I despise Mega Evolutions is because the wrong Pokemon are getting them. Mewtwo getting two? Come on. It is uber as is and overpowered. If they gave them to Pokemon that were weaker to make them better such as Delcatty, I wouldn't mind as much.

But to keep this on topic, these games are either gunna rock or are gunna suck. I'm hoping they'll rock because these are my favourite Pokemon games to date.

    Reading back to your previous posts, you were actually talking about the timeline, not the transfer compatibility. My bad. ^^;

Yes, because type diversity is everything to me. They are what defines type specialists, and I expect everyone to feel the same. Not only that, I also want gym leaders, Elite Four members, and other key important characters' ace Pokemon to be exclusive only to them in order to encourage GF to create more new Pokemon for certain types to avoid such an issue. A gym leader/Elite Four member using 2-3 Pokemon of the same line, Pokemon not associated with their types, or Pokemon who's already an ace Pokemon to another gym leader/E4 member/key important character disgusts me because of my love for diversity. I would consider it as the one feature that will make or break a Pokemon game.

I genuinely feel sorry for you then. I can't even imagine being so hung up on a single aspect of the games that the way in which that one thing is handled could "make or break" the games.

I just play them. And enjoy them. They all have flaws, but I enjoy them anyway. I enjoy some more than others, but I enjoy all of them anyway. I don't let a destructive focus on one or another aspect of the games ruin my enjoyment of them.

I hope that you can do the same.

Well they've announced the games, what do you expect me to do? Cry? I don't like the idea, but I still think they could make it something good (and way better than RSE was, for example).

If they fix the pet peeves I have with Hoenn...

    1) Bad Pokémon roster with bad movepools.
    2) Trumpets everywhere.
    3) Navigation of water routes is very confusing.
    4) Pointless backtracking in some areas.
    5) Enemies (especially Elite Four) with uninspired rosters.

It might even be a good game.

What I DON'T want them to do is to remake them strictly like they did with FRLG and HGSS (to an extent). FRLG sucked balls because of that, and I hated the Sevii Islands as well. And HGSS, despite being a good game, doesn't fix several things that were wrong in GSC. The biggest one is that the level curve is too low and the rosters were mostly the same as GSC. So the game became too easy after a certain point. What they could've done is sacrifice roaming freedom by blocking Mahogany until you were done with Olivine. This way, the levels could be higher in the parts after Olivine.

But a strict remake with everything unchanged? No thanks.

The fact they didn't go with the obvious Magma Ruby/Aqua Sapphire makes me think that maybe, just maybe, there won't be a sign of Team Aqua/Magma in the game. It depends on when the game takes place. If it's after 5th gen, the teams have disbanded and don't exist anymore. Maybe they could reform, though.

The announcement was made only yesterday, so we were unable to include them in the supplementary document for this financial briefing, but the latest installments from the Pokémon franchise, "Pokémon Omega Ruby" and "Pokémon Alpha Sapphire" will be released globally for Nintendo 3DS in November this year. They are full-remakes of the Game Boy Advance "Pokémon Ruby" and "Pokémon Sapphire" games, which sold more than 5.44 million units in Japan and more than 16.22 million units worldwide.

It'll be just like HGSS with new additions.

  • Now that's disappointing...

If they're just remakes then I see a lot of things becoming impractical... Like, no new Mega Evolutions, and the game being basically the same, maybe some different post-game content here and there (Lati@s Mega Stones), and of course the fact that Mega Evolutions wouldn't feature heavily in the game so Blaziken remains the sole Hoenn starter with a Mega Evolution.

There's a chance the story varies according to the game, that is, you fight either Team Magma or Team Aqua, and that sucks because in Emerald they added some nice new areas with the Magma Hideout below Mt. Chimney.

So GF is being lazy. Again.

One positive is that Steven might be Champion again instead of Wallace.
