So as many(if not all)of us know, Black and White are due out real soon, like the 4th or the 6th(I don't remember exactly). There's tons of hype for the games, and I myself am getting Black, but I digress. What's going to happen to your old games when Black and White find their way into your DS's? Are your copies of HS/SS on standby because you're waiting to transfer your favorite teams or Celebi/Crown Beats, is your Platinum Version collecting dust until you can transfer over that shiny Giratina, or will you just lay your 4th Gen games to rest?
Considering I haven't even
stepped foot in Sinnoh or Johto yet, I'll be using
Platinum or
HeartGold while most other Trainers ransack their Generation 5 spoils. I plan to get optimal playthroughs of those two games once I get a Nintendo 3DS, and I still have to properly complete
Emerald and
FireRed as well. All four Pokemon games will help to tide over the time until I get either
Pokemon Black Version or
Pokemon "Gray" Version.
I tend to play older Pokemon games once a newer one comes out. I've replayed
Emerald much more than
FireRed, particularly due to
Emerald's introduction of ability effects on the overworld, move tutor availability, Everstone breeding, EV-reducing effects for certain Berries, the Battle Frontier, Pokemon Contests, and Pokemon animations. I hate to say it, but
FireRed seems "primitive" in certain respects. The Gen 3 games will seem even more primitive compared to the new Pokemon and other features that
HeartGold and
Platinum introduce. It's kind of similar to my playthrough of the
Super Smash Brothers series: ever since getting
Brawl, I'm playing through it much more than the classic, original
Super Smash Brothers 64. :( Finally, (in the future) it would be a bit strange to limit myself to only 386 Pokemon when 263 additional species are available in the newer games.
As rigorous as it is to traverse Sinnoh, I doubt I can fully abandon it for another game, albeit an overrated one. Same goes for all of my games, even Yellow has ceased to be abandoned.
I may use my games to store Pokemon, but nothing beats a fresh start, even if it's in a familiar region.
For nostalgia, I may return to my older Pokemon games once I've moved on to newer releases, particularly because of their unique statuses.
FireRed is the only Pokemon game I have with the
original Kanto Game Corner.
Emerald is the last Pokemon game that precedes the Generation 4-instituted "physical-special" split, utilizing the traditional physical-special move classification based on type, rather than the move itself. Finally, both games are remnants of the first Pokemon generation that I had the chance of playing. :)
Come
Black or Gray Version, however, I will be transferring all my Pokemon to the Generation 5 game that I receive. Prior to that, I will probably trade Pokemon between
Platinum and
HeartGold, so that all of my Pokemon can acquire Pokemon Contest and Pokeathlon victories and Ribbons, along with having those Pokemon obtain any other Ribbons that are unobtainable in Generation 5.
