What do you think is the most overrated (Too much love and attention from fans and/or gamefreak and its affiliates) Pokemon characters/games and what do you think is the most underrrated (No attention from fans or Gamefreak and its affilates/gets a lot of hate).

Overrated does not equal I hate this character/game.

    For me:

    Overrated:

Dedenne: Apparently is supposed to be a "Pikaclone" but it doesn't look like much one to me. That's as far negativity for Dedenne as I can go without sounding like a douche. Out of all of the Pikachu faces, this... thing is the most popular somehow. It has the most attention from Nintendo and it has the most love from fans and Gen 6 hasn't even ended yet. (It almost is though but case and point, it's been overrated long before Sun and Moon) Sure, Braixen and all but she was an evolved starter meaning that anyone who plays X and Y and picked Fennekin knows her and that's like half a million people in my guess. Dedenne is hard to find and is one of the most popular Gen 6 Pokemon to date.

Pikachu: Self explanitory. Also he's suspiciously OP in the Smash bros series and nobody ever points that out but me.

Lucario: At least in the fighting game aspect. From Type Wild/Brawl to Pokken. Jeez.

Charizard: I don't find Charizard to be that great. The kids always obsess over it so therefore there's always figureines/unique cards about it.

Garchomp... Just don't know why. He just is.

Eevee: I like Eevee in a sense of cuteness but it's really annoying, useless and is hard to catch . Don't even get me started on evolving it AND IT'S MOVEPOOL. IT'S FREAKING MOVEPOOL. The reason why I think it's so overrated is just because of the popularity it gets even though there's nothing special to it. Just use it to evolve it to Jolteon or Leafeon or something.

Plusle: It's not that she's overrated entirely but when compared to Minun, Gamefreak seems to give this half of the duo a lot of attention (Such as Collesium, ORAS, and the Pokemon Ranger anime) and a lot of attention from a twin duo that is basically almost the same as each other = that part becomes separated in terms of popularity and fan love and that is not a good thing for the two. Fandom attention doesn't even soothe the Plusle/Minun popularity comparison. Even the fans leave out Minun in fanfics and art when Plusle is around and when Minun is in fan art sometimes the artists would shove Minun aside and have Plusle take up the whole picture. Back to official stuff, recently a soft Plusle plush came up on pokemon Center and Minun is still stuck being a keychain in the world Of Pokecenter. Poor Minun.

(Edit: Plusle is now in my hate list. Can't stand them anymore...)

    Underrated:

Minun: Game Freak/Nintendo/Creatures/Whatever sees Minun as nothing but an emergency call for Plusle in case it needs to do a cheering routine. Minun needs more love dang it!

Riolu: He's Lucario Junior! It would be great to see Riolu together with Lucario sometimes, but nope. I guess SMD is good enough.

Pichu: Everyone hates him just because of his joke appearance in Melee. I find that joke Melee Pichu quite inaccurate (and offensive) because Pichu can do more than just copy Pikachu and Pichu can be decloned easily. Everyone says that he can't. Look at his movepool. May not look like much but there's plenty of possibilites. As for the self hurting, the only reason Sakurai did that was because of the Pichu Bros scene where they fainted when using their electricity. You could also go to Pichu's Pokedex entry and prove me wrong but the dex is wrong too. Yes, Pichu knows a few recoil electricity damage moves but they technically don't hurt themselves with electricity overall. And besides, self inflicting damage for most of your moves? Worst idea for a fighting game IMHO.

Bulbasaur: We always pick Charmander, and we pick Squirtle but what about Bulbasaur? Poor guy.

Pachirisu: Appeared a lot in gen 4 , advertized as much as Pichu back in the 2nd generation and *CLICK* gone. Got the cut. Pachirisu has been ignored by Game Freak later on after the 4th generation and in the recent years has been just a cameo Pokemon in spinoffs. Though for a Pokemon that is now irrelavent the fans are doing good on bringing Pachirisu up on her legs for a few more years. I still remember those threads on GameFAQs trying to bring Pachirisu in Smash Brawl as a Pichu replacement back in '07. Good times.

In terms of overrated I would say a few Pokemon in my eyes are overrated, but I'm just going to say Gardevoir because I honestly think it is the most overrated Pokemon ever.

As for Underrated, in my eyes, I would say Girafarig, Seviper, and Klefki

Charizard - Don't get me wrong, I love Charizard. But it's way more popular than it deserves to be. What about Venusaur and Blastoise? They're just as good as Charizard, if not better. I feel that they all deserve an equal amount of popularity.

Typhlosion - This thing is just a Charizard wannabe. They're both very popular, they both have the same stat spread, used to be decent in higher tiers, and have lost viability when Stealth Rock came along. Feraligatr is actually different from Blastoise, both design-wise and stat-wise, and Meganium is the first (and only) starter to remain cute at its final evolution. But Typhlosion? Nope, go home.

Umbreon - My least favourite Eeveelution, the most overrated one, and perhaps the only one I really don't like. It's not cute, cool, or badass, it's annoying, it tries to be edgy but completely fails, and it has won the Favourite Pokemon Tournament one times too many. I admit, I used to like it, but as time went on, my appreciation for it faded away, and the fact that it's so popular really soured it for me. There are far better Dark types, like Tyranitar, Houndoom, Drapion, Hydreigon, Zoroark, and Greninja, just to name a few.

Glaceon - The second most overrated Eeveelution, in my opinion. This one is actually cute, unlike Umbreon, but the cons outweigh the pros here. It may have good Special Attack, but it gets mostly Normal and Ice type moves, and the coverage it gets consists of Shadow Ball, Signal Beam, and weak moves like Hidden Power and Water Pulse, but that's it. It may have high Defense, but it has too few resistances to make use of it. And it's easily worn down by strong physical attacks, because it has no reliable recovery, except for Rest which can make it a sitting duck. As for its design, I don't find it as appealing as most other Eeveelutions.

Magikarp, Stunfisk, etc. - The jokes are getting old. The only one that I actually like, is the Mudkip joke.

Honourable mentions: Legendaries (particularly Uber ones), Gardevoir, Electivire, Arceus, Oshawott, and Emolga

    Underrated Pokemon coming soon!

I legit wanna know why Emolga is overrated. She is like the one of most infamous (non-water type) Pokemon I know.

    Overrated: Every Pokemon in OU

    Underrated: Every Pokemon below OU

For good reason, as according to the perspective of people new to the competitive community, the Pokemon in OU are the only Pokemon that are considered competitively good, while the Pokemon in UU, RU, PU, and NU are considered inferior.

I don't like Emolga. I find it to be annoying, whether it's in the wild or used by Elesa. I also didn't like its mouth in the Gen 5 games. Also, it seemed way too popular in my earlier years here.

Nah, Emolga is actually underrated, because it's not in OU. Because I'm following the perspective of competitive newcomers, I can assume that the fanbase Emolga fans are contrarians to other Electric types and Flying types currently in OU.

Not being in OU doesn't equal underrated. Take Lucario for example. It's not in OU, but is it underrated? No, because it gets a lot of love. Or how about Zoroark, which is in BL2 right now? It could be considered underrated, but it's pretty popular outside of competitive battling, so I don't consider it underrated. Same with Emolga.

Well they're UU, RU, PU, NU for a reason and it's because they're not as strong as the ones in OU lol.. it's logic. They aren't as competitively viable for a reason.

Overrated: Charizard, Pikachu, Milotic, Gengar (Alto I love the later two)
    Underrated: Delcatty queen

    Underrated:

Tangrowth - This is one of those Pokemon that gets flack for its design. Personally, I love its design, and I think it's cute. It's also good in competitive battling, as it has good attacking stats, a lot of Defense, and a wide movepool. I'm using one right now in Pokemon Flawless Platinum (Inverse version, to be precise) and it takes physical attacks like it's nothing. This is a Pokemon that deserves more appreciation than it gets.

Rhyperior - Rhydon's evolution gets a lot of hate for not looking as good as Rhydon. And while I too like Rhydon more, I do love Rhyperior. I've used it in Pokemon Brown, and it was a beast of a Pokemon. It brought enemies to its knees with its immense power, and it was also bulky enough to take hits.

Seismitoad - Another Pokemon that gets a lot of hate just because people find it ugly. But I don't think it's ugly. I actually like its design, and I think it's cute. I've also used it in Pokemon Dark Rising 2, a really hard ROM hack, and it was really useful. Just like the two Pokemon above, it gets more hate than it deserves.

Magmortar - I love how this thing looks like a demonic fire clown. It also has a nice movepool, consisting of moves like Thunderbolt, Cross Chop, and Psychic. A lot of people may prefer Electivire, but I like Magmortar more.

Cradily - I've used this thing in Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, and it was wonderful. Not only could it take hits like a champion, it could also deal a decent lot of damage itself. It can be tough to train a Lileep all this way, but trust me, it'll be worth it.

Like a year ago I would have been on team "Pikachu is Overrated" but I recently re-watched a bunch of the Indigo League episodes and I gotta tell you, Pikachu is so adorable.

95% of the Pokemon fandom would agree. Personally, I don't mind Pikachu in the main games. Its just the side games and the animes and the merch that... ugh... Give the mascot status to someone else already.

I totally understand why people don't like him, I just can't bring myself to haha I have so much Pikachu stuff lying around that my mom got me when I was a little boy. Like stuff she found at the thrift. That's how popular he was. Only one measly Golduck toy :(

But UU does follow the same definition as underrated, which include Pokémon who are overshadowed by Pokémon OU, which follows the same definition as overrated. So technically, both Lucario and Zoroark are underrated. And the Pokémon you've listed as underrated are also Pokémon not on OU, which further proves my point.

UU and OU mean Under Used and Over Used and PU means poorly used or whatever it means. Obviously Pinkie-Dawn is right.... Not being used that much leads to being underrated.

And since when did this become a tier argument thread? I'm like the only one who can't stand Pokemon tourneys ( Look at my favorites in my sig and you can under stand why.). Lol.

Blaziken is easily the most overrated pokemon. I've literally heard people suggest there's no reliable way to beat it, which is ridiculous. Its first move is almost always protect, so all you have to do is raise your speed that turn to keep ahead of it, then one shot it. My favorite's mega cahrizard x with dragon dance and earthquake, but speed boost sharpedo with waterfall works just as well.

As for underrated, off the top of my head I'd say Meloetta. People are afraid to use it because it's a gimmick pokemon, and because its signature move can be blocked by ghosts. But it hits fairly hard, a good set of mixed attacks can make it unpredictable, and serene grace gives it a great little edge. The only downside is that it lacks boomburst, which was clearly made for it.

    Spoiler:

Also, it's adorable, even in punchkick form.

Meloetta is adorable and is very human like. My number one favorite legendary with Latias and Victini behind her. Also it's called piroutte just to let you know. Meloetta actually has a pretty big fanbase too even though being an event only Pokemon. Wouldn't really consider her underrated.

Eh... this is based mostly on what I've seen, so it may not necessary be right.

Besides obvious ones like Charizard and Pikachu, I think Greninja is overrated. It just came right out the gate during Kalos and kind of devoured all attention away from the Chespin and Fennekin lines. Kind of makes me resent it because my favorite Pokemon of all time is in the Fennekin line (Braixen), but at least it got an appearance in Pokken Tournament.

What else...? Pretty much any sort of "badass manly dragon" Pokemon. Particularly if it has a shiny version that is black. I'm looking at you, Rayquaza! These are overwhored by the fans, whilst the cutest Pokemon are overwhored by the merchandise. I'm just like, is there any balance? I am not moved by manly badasses or ridiculously cute Pokemon. Too much. What about a Pokemon that looks kind of cute, but can also badass at the same time?

Now, I'm going to rack my brain and think about some truly underrated Pokemon. Pokemon that people don't even remember that I think need to be appreciated more for their cool designs. These are:

    - Dewgong. It's bland, but beautifully minimalist and just... pure white. I love it. Really emphasizes that frosty Ice-type.

    - Girafarig. It's... just so oddly charming and has a great color scheme. Also, I've only become more taken with it since its appearance in the third movie during the opening. The way it uses Psybeam looks really damn cool. Also, it's the only Psychic/Normal type!

    - Grumpig! Awww. One of my favorite Psychic-type designs. It makes a pig look cute, and gives it pearls and gems on its forehead.

    - Whiscash. Looks kind of ridiculous, but man, are those colors stunning and attractive. The color scheme and patterns for this design are spot-on. And it gives me this sort of... Asian dragon-ish vibe. If it ever Mega Evolves, it should become a Water/Dragon.

    - Tropius. This would be such a useful Pokemon to have in real life. You can fly on its back, AND it's constantly carrying healthy snacks. Also, I just love its gentle yet strong appearance. It gives me this impression of being a kind father.

    - Swanna. I sure do love those pure white designs, don't I? But it also comes with a lovely shade of blue. A simple swan, but a very beautiful stylized interpretation of it. Also, was extremely useful on my in-game team for Black.

    Pikachu - no explanation required.

Eeveelutions - apart from the fact that they're cute, there's no reason to like them IMO. Sylveon can be used competitively I guess, but it's not very good there since it tends to be outclassed by Clefable.

Pikaclones - I can't call them Pokemon. They fill up Pokedex slots and are just there to annoy you.

Lucario - competitively it is underrated but other than that, its popularity is sky-high, just because it got a movie. Why the hell does Ash have it in every single piece of fanfiction is something I'll never understand.

'Zard - at least this Pokemon is good, but please stop using it in Ubers, thank you.

Mega Diancie (competitively) - I don't think it's that good tbh. Its dual 160/160 offenses seem magnificient, but Life Orb Abomasnow with 92/92 actually hits harder on both sides when EV'd properly, lol (and its dual STABs are even slightly worse imo). I also hate how it needs Protect or good prediction to go mega safely. At least M-Diancie is gorgeous, though.

    Underrated - soon.
