This place is seriously lacking some discussions for potential Pokemon threats, so I figured why not start one that involves something that I both enjoy using and hate facing. Pheromosa has been given a monstrous 137 base attack and special attack, as well as 151 speed, making it a massive pain in the ass if not dealt with properly. In addition to it's ability Beast Boost, which is basically Moxie except you can choose which stat to raise (except HP), Pheromosa poses as a very dangerous threat to unprepared teams. This is somehow mitigated by the fact that it is extremely frail, with a meager 71 / 37 /37 base defensive stats.

Have you used Pheromosa? How would you evaluate its performance? Care to share which set(s) you have been using?
(Smogon metagame discussion, ignore if you don't play Smogon metas) Do you think Pheromosa is a top-tier threat? With it's major check in Aegislash gone from OU, how do you think Pheromosa will affect OU as a whole?
As a whole, what are your thoughts about Pheromosa?

It does still have one more solid switch-in in Toxapex, although it doesn't fit into every team archetype like Aegislash did but oh well.

It's certainly a top-tier threat, it's kinda hard not to be when you have stats like that plus the movepool and ability.

Rapid Spin kinda seems like a waste on it though, when are you gonna find the opportunity to spin hazards away with its frail ass? You'd have to give up a coverage move to do so as well, and Pheromosa really wants its coverage.

Toxapex is actually very popular, probably because it has godly defenses + it's bulky water.
    Code:
    | 5 | Toxapex | 18.12630% | 186532 | 19.078% | 141981 | 19.516% |
Mantine is also a good switch-in, despite having to watch out for Hi Jump Kick. Mantine also ohko's Pheromosa with Air Slash, but that's not really surprising lol

I've been using Scarf Pheromosa as a revenge-killier and late-game cleaner and I can honestly feel a major difference in power compared to more offensive choices such as Expert Belt / Life Orb.

Pheromosa needs banning asap. It's such a pain to deal with and despite having a few good counters(Alolan Marowak, Toxapex, Mantine, Pelipper to an extent), it is still overwhelming and unhealthy for the meta.

Had they not gutted Talonflame, I'd imagine it would be on every single team to help deal with this thing.

It's overcentralizing. I find myself having either play pre-bank where it's got less checks or end up running multiple checks because it's accompanied by Pursuit Tyranitar, Dugtrio and Magnezone. Not the fault of the trappers, they just do what they do. Pheromosa just cleans up shop straight after the checks are gone.

There were two reasons everyone ran Aegislash and one of them was being a blanket check to Pheromosa.

I mean, that's kinda how cleaners work, you remove their checks/counters and then sweep with them

Nevermind that trapping is straight up (one of) the most busted thing in the game

Not saying that Pheromosa isn't suspect test worthy though

Get priority moves or pokemon with a ton of bulk or get rekt.

This kinda makes Toxapex a staple until when/if Pheromosa gets tested and probably banned from OU.
