PlayStation 5

So recently we got a sneak peek into what the [insert pending name of next PlayStation console] will be bringing to the table, in light of Sony mentioning the PS4 coming towards the end of its life. There seem to be some very good ideas and features which I'm sure the community have been harping on about for years (backwards compatibility, I am looking at you!).

With that in mind, do you think this console could be a resounding success? If not, what do you think Sony needs to consider, to make sure their next-gen console is the one ahead of the pack; especially with such a dangerous move (imo) of revealing as much as they have so early on.

And of course mosty importantly..........what games/series do you want to see make an inevitable comeback?!

I ain't ready for the next console generation yet =[

though I guess that it is getting to be about that time again, it's been about 6 years since the PS4 came out and 6-7 years is the typical lifespan of a console generation

Really hope the bit about it being backwards compatible with all 4 PS consoles is true though, that'd be cool

It's about time!

Although, in my personal opinion, I feel like games that run on the PS4 look pretty damn great as it is, although I see the appeal of having native Ray Tracing support for the hardcore gamers out there who want their gaming consoles to be more comparable to the PC market. It's likely that we're going to see developers trying to jack up the graphics as much as they possibly can so we can see how beautiful games can really get.

That said though, the biggest improvement (or so I hear) is that the PS5 will have an SSD now! This means loading times should be significantly decreased which in the end will provide a much better experience.

It's going to be quite the investment, though. I imagine it's going to be in the ballpark of $600-700 or so. Certainly not cheap for a system that powerful, but then again, I also imagine Sony would drop their price to match whatever Microsoft prices their new Xbox console, so we'll see.

Imo if the 2020 release is true, I could see TLOU II being a launch title. And with the PS5 being backwards compatible, people can catch up by buying TLOU Remastered. Death Stranding still seems to be in the early stages, so that's another title alongside Horizon Zero Dawn 2, God of War 5 and GTA 6.
Personally I'd like another Red Dead, but with a fresh setting and cast. Maybe shortly after the American Civil War, placing it before Revolver and Redemption/2.

Hmm using the latest and greatest AMD Ryzen chips and their latest and greatest AMD GPU(which is budget GPU in the PC market). Whether the AMD GPU will match what NVidia can put out remains to be seen but the fact its using the latest and greatest Tech, it wouldn't be unrealistic to expect a PS5 to push $700, if not more thanks to Apple charging $1k for an IPhone. Granted if AMD can crank out the chips to push the unit price down, its possible Sony could subsidize part of it and price it at like $500 to try and take Market share from Microsoft and Nintendo.

When it comes to the most recent consoles, it always feels too soon to me. Even though in reality it's been several years since the PS4 hit the market. I think part of that for me, is just that I don't play games that often since my other interests take up much of that time. The other half probably comes from the expenses, there was a definite price jump going from the PS3/Xbox 360/Wii-U into the PS4/Xbone/Switch and I'm a bit concerned that with all these hardware improvements coming with the PS5 we're going to see yet another jump. It's going to be interesting to see how console gaming evolves over the next few years with PC gaming becoming ever more prominent and accessible.

I'm thrilled about the backwards compatibility though. I haven't gotten myself a PS4 yet as I'm not very wealthy and opted for the Switch instead. This way I'm not going to be getting the PS4 just as it becomes obsolete and then having to begin the same saving up process all over again to get a hold of the PS5 eventually. I can just wait for the 5 and then get the then cheaper PS4 games I'm interested in on that. I just hope we're not going to be seeing $100+ games become a regular occurrence in the new gen :/

Backwards Compatibility with the ps4 is good enough for me as long as it includes game downloads for the people who went digital this generation. I have a decent amount of digital games that I would want to have on the ps5.

For price I think it will be $500 as I don't think Sony wants to make the same mistake as they did with the ps3 when it came to pricing at launch.

I don't think it will do very well.

.... Ok, I can understand the heavy need and the psyched up folks to be ready for the next generation of game consoles, but in what direction will they take it?

Even then, has anyone seen or thought about Sony's new Censorship agreements? What content is being cut for a game to make it to the console? And I'm not talking about the NSFW content. I mean content that doesn't meet a certein critereia of anything they don't like.

That and they'll skip on Backward compatability, they can make more funds reselling stuff to us from the PS4 library... And as sour and bashing as it sounds, there is some truth to this from PS3 to PS4. Kingdom Hearts being one but too easy, Any Assasins Creed Game that came out between the PS3 and PS4 as it transitioned, etc.

I'm a gent that enjoys a decent library from Sony, but their decisoins lately have just left a sour taste with me. That's just my own opinion, I'm more interested to see what Microsoft does with the Xbox and Nintendo does next on the Switch. I'm waiting for googles stadia to, release, rebound and burn out before they abandon it.
