    Sherry Ruth / Yukimura Kaede
    Base CSS by Aquacorde

    • And then the simulation ended just when a simulated grunt was about to ambush the Ranger. So much for a simulation -- she would've loved to test her newfound powers (?) out as Sherry Ruth before the actual field work. The blunette redhead soon heard an announcement from a nearby intercom. Something about a first mission if she'd heard it right. Sherry immediately reverted to the blunette she previously was -- complete with the standard Ranger uniform replacing her altered one and her Styler looking like, well, a Styler -- and headed to the big office not far from the holo-deck with her snowy Vulpix riding on her shoulder.

By the time Kaede and Shiron arrived at the office, the duo only saw their new boss in there. "Damon-sama?" Kaede said while trying oh-so-hard to not tilt her head despite wanting to (thanks, Shiron). "Is it the first job already?"

Tal hated being late to things. He had left the ranger base with the intent of making it to the Damon building fifteen minutes early. But along the way, he had run into some low-level rocket grunt, barely more than a teen, bullying a smaller kid. How was he supposed to just let that pass by? Proton had made short work of the jerk's Zubat, but the altercation had delayed Tal. This was certainly not how he wanted to make his first impression.

The invitation itself had been strange: not assigned like a ranger mission, but an elegant envelope left in secret in his private room. It certainly piqued his curiosity. Though the ranger was also wary of traps. While there were plenty of real resistance movements and vigilantes fighting Team Rocket, the team itself was full of scoundrels, and there were plenty of other scammers and crooks. But if anyone could fund an operation like this, it would be Damon enterprises...

As he arrives at the HQ, Tal realizes he might not be the only one running a little late. It's certainly a strange crowd: what looks like three trainers with their teams, and two independent pokemon. His eyes widen a little at the sight of the two intelligent-looking Pokemon, but he says nothing. He can't be 100% sure that these people are here for the same reason, and doesn't want to give away the secret if hey aren't. So he approaches the receptionist, holding up the invitation. "I believe I have an appointment with..." When he speaks, he has a particularly thick Oblivian accent. She merely smiles and gestures that he should get on the elevator with everyone else.

Once below, Tal sees a cluster of more people. He's a little relieved to see another ranger. Even after a year of running around Unova, he's not quite used to the trianer culture, which seems much more battle-obsessed than he's used to from Oblivia.

  • (Joint post between me, Alex and Typh!)

After turning their attention off of each other, Keaton and Shade notice that the mysterious Gardevoir is staring daggers at Swindle, who is not showing an inch of backing down in response.

Keaton gives a small wave to the Gardevoir with his free hand.
"See Swindle? This is the kinda thing we're trying to avoid right now, get me?"

Shade also proceeds to shoot him an angry glance before looking back at the Gardevoir with a look of slight embarrassment.

Noticing the Nikkit, "Swindle" as his trainer calls him, only smirks in return, Gracidea decides to make another point before dropping the matter. She starts glowing as if about to use a Dazzling Gleam move, its eventual target obvious as she still glares down at Swindle, ignoring the man's small wave to her.

    "And who might you be?"

Keaton's question reaches the Pokémon standing before him in an attempt to shift focus, despite his voice being slightly muffled by his mask.

The Gardevoir drops her glow and peers at Keaton with a calm but accusing look.

"I am Gracidea, private detective. Your Nikkit should be more careful who to pick a fight with."

    Keaton shrugs.

"Yeah, try telling that to him. Maybe you'll have better luck in making it stick."

"Yeah, right. Good luck with that.", Shade chimes in under her breath.

"I meant nothing by my comment, I assure you.", he says with a look of apology on his face, yet never removing his smile. "I sometimes forget that the things I say can bother more than the ones I intend them to."

Gracidea nods, accepting the Nikkit's apology.

While the Gardevoir and Nikkit were settling their differences, Christina, the woman in black turns and watches the Gardevoir and Nickit for a moment. occasionally depending on the angle she was seen at, her eyes looked almost golden.

"Come now, Shade, I'm sure 'Master' would like some alone time with his 'new best friend'.", Swindle says in an obvious attempt to further mock Shade's earlier slip-up. "Also, this is a great chance for us to do a little 'sightseeing' of our own, no?"

Shade's face turns unsure. "I suppose..."

But Keaton interjects. "Swindle, the only 'sights' you're going to see are the sights inside your Pokéball if you even think about leaving this building. Are we clear?", Keaton commands without even a hint of humor in the tone of his voice. "Now go check out the other side of the room and report back if you see anyone else come in from over there, I don't want you too far away from me in the event there's trouble."

Both of his Pokémon respond with a nod, then he lets go of Swindle and Shade leaps off his shoulder to hurry off to the other side of the room, oblivious to the strange woman watching them.

"Are you sure letting those two run off without supervision is a wise idea friend?" Christina asks to the one the Nickit referred to as 'master'. "Considering what I can only guess is that we're guests here, I'd rather not be a suspect in mysterious thefts of products."

Taken aback by his own lack of awareness at not spotting her sooner, Keaton takes a reactionary step away from the stranger. Then, after a moment, he collects himself and responds. "I can assure you that, despite having a playful sense of humor, my family is quite well behaved. But, in the event there is any trouble with them, I will take complete responsibility."

Just then, a receptionist approaches the group and says, "Welcome to the Damon building. You are all here by request, yes? Please enter the elevator and head down to the lowest floor to get started."

Gracidea nods at the receptionist, then quietly walks towards the elevator, hoping to quickly meet this building's owner and get things started.

With the single spoken word "Return!" Keaton summons his Pokémon to his side once again, picking up Swindle and letting Shade climb back onto his shoulder. He gives a friendly nod to the receptionist, then starts to head to the elevator with the rest of the group.

Christina turns her attention to the receptionist and nods as well, following the receptionist and heads over to the elevator with the trainer and the Gardevoir.

It's then they notice the mysterious new Pokémon isn't following, but instead heading out the main entrance to leave, just as another new person enters the building to follow them down.

    • Before Kaede could get any answers from Eric, more people entered the room:
      • A man donning a fox-like mask (he had his Pokemon outside their Pokeballs);
      • A Gardevoir in a trench coat;
      • A black-haired woman dressed in a winter outfit (was it really that cold out there?); and
      • Another ranger with a Mareep as his partner.
"Ara, are you all new here too?" Kaede turned around to face the newcomers with Shiron hopping off from her shoulder. "I'm Kaede. Yukimura Kaede. Pleased to meet you all, everyone," the blunette politely bowed (by Ranseian standard, that is) to them all -- something she couldn't do back when she was with Eric and Andy earlier. And yes, Shiron bowed too, albeit as much as an Alolan Vulpix could.

  • Keaton never spoke a word while waiting for the elevator to reach its destination. The thought of having to work and fight alongside other humans again was something he hated the idea of passionately, but he never considered that other Pokemon would seek out a group like this to aid in the eradication of a human-centered problem... He shifts his head to the side to give Shade a slight bump of affection, and he holds Swindle a little tighter as well. He had already lost three of the most important creatures in his life, he would sooner die than let the same fate befall the others... Before he can get too lost in thought about the past, the elevator abruptly stops, having apparently arrived at its destination.

When the doors open and he steps out, he is greeted by a friendly-looking, blue-haired woman dressed in a Pokemon Ranger's uniform. After hearing her introduction, Keaton takes a few steps into the room and away from the crowed elevator to return her greeting in the only way he knows how.

"Well, hello to you, Ms. Yukimura, or would you prefer Kaede?" He then moves his free hand to his chest and says, "I am called Keaton, or John, if you'd like. Either is fine with me." He then outstreches his arm and bows like a magician would on stage, nearly throwing Shade off of his shoulder in the process.

"And these two are some of the members of my family. The Sneasel I almost just launched off my back is called Shade, and the little grey Fox in my arm is called Swindle."

After collecting herself from the sudden jolt, Shade looks at the new girl and nods warmly, with a bit of an embarrassed smile on her face. And Swindle, realizing that Keaton was too busy giving his introduction to notice, gives her Pokemon a soft smile.

Christina Wayfar - Meeting the Team

    • Christina didn't speak either, she stayed in the back of the elevator she took the time to think about her situation, she honestly wasn't sure if she could truly trust Eric even if he said they were fighting Team Rocket, or that among these people she'd likely find purpose and a new home, friends and family who'd support her. She doesn't trust easily though, it's visible in her stance, arms folded leaning against the wall often in key locations where she can keep an eye on everyone and every possible.

When the doors finally open and see the ranger woman greeting them happily, Christina steps out and finds a spot along the wall and leans. she lets Keaton introduce himself first as well as his Pokémon, then waves. "I'm Christina Wayfar, a pleasure to meet you, Kaede, and you as well Keaton"

Tal had a habit of not speaking until he had something to say. He picked up a few names just from overhearing Gracidea and Keaton's interaction. It had seemed a hair's breadth from turning into a fight, and Tal was glad that things had de-escalated. If they were all supposed to be fighting Team Rocket together, how long would they last if they all ended up sniping at one another? From his perspective, trainers always seemed a little battle-happy. Even after a year in Unova, he wasn't really used to it. In Oblivia, there were almost no trainers at all, and battles were rare. Of course, it made sense that the gangs and goons of Team Rocket had escalated the violence in the regions they conquered. But from the stories Tal had heard, it wasn't unusual for even a grocery trip or a visit to a restaurant to end up in a battle somehow. And the Unovan rangers he had been working with were much more prone to settling their differences with a friendly fight. He had gotten more accustomed to battling Team Rocket in the past year, but it still didn't quite feel natural. The thought nagged at him a little- would it get in the way of being a good member of this team? But he was resolved to try his best.

At last, people seemed to be properly introducing themselves. Tal wasn't used to bowing. But when both Kaede and Keaton bowed, Tal thought perhaps he should. Maybe that was the norm here, and it was generally better to respect people's customs. Though then Christina only waved, so perhaps bowing wasn't necessary after all? He ended up giving a sort of deep nod vaguely reminiscent of a shallow bow.

"It's a pleasure to meet everyone. I'm Tal Schafer, Ranger Rank 5, based in Cocona Village, currently assigned to the Driftveil ranger base. My partner pokemon is called Proton". His tone ended up sounding a little formal- a rote speech said many times. His partner is apparently a bit more sociable, letting out a cheerful-sounding bleat and bouncing a little on his two front legs.

  • ERIC DAMON
    (Briefing Room)
After the new recruits has gotten acquainted with each other, Eric had them sit down. He heard Kaede call him "Damon-sama" which didn't bother, him but definitely caught him off guard a little bit.

"Retaliators... We have our first mission. Apologies for how suddenly this came up, but... I have heard from The International Police that Looker and Anabel have both gone missing in The Land of Kitakami while following Team Rocket. We have to rescue them and stop Team Rocket from conquering Kitakami! For those of you that are Trainers, Damon Enterprises will give you each ten Poké Balls for free before every mission. For the Rangers, our technology department can upgrade your equipment after each mission. With that being said, we will take my private jet to Mesagoza in the Paldea region, and we will receive an International Police escort from there to Kitakami. We leave first thing tomorrow morning!" Eric paused to take a breath.

Eric then stared off into space, remembering the horrible Pokémon stampede Team Rocket started all those months ago in Kanto that killed his beloved Peggy. Snivy popped out of her Poké Ball intending to snap her Trainer out of it using Vine Whip, but then looked at the others and decided against it for now. Snivy was a bit shy, returning herself to her Poké Ball after a few seconds.

  • As she exited the elevator, Gracidea had responded to the greetings only with a nod, eager to get to the meeting with Damon. But as it quickly concluded, she kept staring at the young man.

    That's it?

The Gardevoir then projected her thoughts around so that everyone could hear:

So, we are just going to barge in like that? Dive into action without prior training to form a decently working team?
Beneath the disbelief, the most perceptive might detect a concealed, thin layer of distress at the last four words.

Christina Wayfar - A brief briefing

    • Christina listened through the briefing provided by Eric, about how a couple international police agents went missing in the Kitakami region, and they were going to investigate and rescue them, when the Gardevoir voices her concerns Christina nods. "Yea, we should slow our roll here. I'm just as willing to face team Rocket head on as anyone else, but we need some details, when did they go missing, how long, what was their last known location, does Team Rocket have a base or outpost nearby? these are important questions, after all... from my own experience if it's too late they could have moved them to a larger more secure facility, and that would be a bear to get them out, and even if we do... there's... well there's no promises that they'll be the same people before we found them" Christina voices her thoughts, while she kept her past a secret, her thoughts drifted to her own experience in Team rocket custody, she agreed to this to try to stop more people from suffering the same or similar fate that she has.

"not to mention that we should get familiar with everyone's strengths and weaknesses, so we can better cover each other and prevent capture or who knows what else from happening" she says simply with a shrug. "last time I checked we all just barely met each other... but, I do understand extenuating circumstances, and sometimes the best experience is diving into the field... but more intel would be nice before we rush in"

    Yukimura Kaede
    Base CSS by Aquacorde

    • "Either way is fine, Keaton-san," Kaede assured the masked man -- Keaton -- regarding her preferred name. However, she couldn't help but to giggle when he dramatically bowed and nearly flung his Sneasel off his shoulder in process. Said Sneasel, Shade, also looked rather... sheepish after the mishap. Was she the type of girl who tends to be easily embarrassed?

Keaton aside, Kaede also learned that the black-clad lady was Christina Wayfar and the ranger guy was Tal Schafer. "Rank 5, eh? Me too!" the blunette cheered, never mind that Tal was the only one who might get what she meant as a fellow ranger. And with Tal mentioning his hometown (not that Kaede even knew what a Cocona Village was or where it's located), she might as well return the favor, "I'm from Nixtorm, by the way. Currently assigned to Viperia ranger base." Too bad she couldn't catch the Gardevoir's name.

And then Shiron's chirps of greeting to her fellow Pokemon reminded Kaede that she needed to introduce her Pokemon partner too. "And oh, before I forget, this li'l buddy here is Shiron," she gestured at the Vulpix. And yes, the latter extended her greeting to the humans as well, though Kaede herself could've sworn it was a "Yoroshiku" ("Nice to meet you") chirp.

And then it's briefing time. Apparently the International Police had lost contact (?) with two of their own agents while following Team Rocket, so it was up to the Retaliators to get them back. However, both Christina and the Gardevoir made a point against jumping into the fray right away. Christina was more concerned on more details about the mission itself, while the Gardevoir was more concerned about getting everyone some training before jumping into action.

[Uh... think we should do another simulation at the holo-deck?] Shiron suggested, much to her human's surprise.

      "Wha-- Shiron!!!"

[What? It was just us and Andy-san who used it last time, right?]

"Yeah, but we can't just do that without Damon-sama's--" Kaede's argument was cut off upon seeing Eric getting lost in thought for some reason (and did she just see a Snivy over there?). "Uh... Damon-sama?" the blunette's exasperation earlier soon turned into concern. Her white fox trotted over to Eric (she was sitting on the table throughout the briefing) and said, [Helloooooooooo?] while furiously waving a paw in front of him.

  • Marcus, having taken Shade off his shoulder so she could sit on his lap with Swindle, shuffled uncomfortably in his seat. He knew that he wasn't 'technically' supposed to be here, but after hearing a possible lead on more Rocket trash, he was impatiently waiting to get started on taking his vengeance out on the ones who stole his precious family. ("I'll beat a location out of one of them sooner or later, I might as well get even while I'm getting back") he thinks to himself. His mask might suppress his personality on the outside, but he's still a raging inferno of anger just under the surface.

Keaton: "I'll need a moment alone with the one in charge here to clear up our intrusion into their club of freedom fighters. Are you two alright with waiting back here while I go ask him for a moment in private?" Keaton said quietly to his team.

Shade: "We've got it handled!" Shade said with a confident smile.

Swindle: "Yes, best that you handle this alone. Wouldn't want you to be distracted worrying about what we might say, after all." Swindle responds, looking playful as usual.

It's then that Keaton hears the voices of some of the others chiming up about wanting some training first, and another thing about something the mysterious Gardevoir said, but Keaton could've sworn he didn't hear her speak... He was sitting nearby enough that he almost certainly would have heard it.
Not thrilled about the idea of needing to share more than introductions with the others, he motions for his team to jump down, then stands and approaches the man in charge. He then notices the cute white Fox from earlier also doing the same thing, which makes him smile a bit to himself. So he decides to wait his turn for his chat with the boss.

Tal smiled at Kaede, genuinely pleased to have someone of at least somewhat similar experience. He had, likewise, never heard of Nixtorm or Viperia, but that wasn't too surprising. Oblivia was far from pretty much everywhere, even it's closer neighbors of Almia and Fiore found it hard to get to. "Nice to meet you! Where is Viperia, if you don't mind me asking? I'm from Oblivia myself.".

Tal took on a laser-focused look as Damon began explaining the mission. He always took assignments and briefings quite seriously. This was bad news. The International Police were a skilled group, and their agents had done a lot of fighting Team Rocket in the years of the take-over. If two members went missing, this wasn't a small operation. No wonder Damon was constructing a specialized team. The only question was whether they'd be good enough.

Others brought up Tal's concerns- that it wasn't a lot of information to go on, and they didn't know each other as a team- so he simply nodded along at first. Then he added "It's possible our escort will give us a more detailed briefing once we arrive in Kitakami". The worse option was that there were simply no more known details to give, but he didn't voice that possibility. "But if there's some training we could do- or even just get to know each other at the most basic level- before tomorrow morning, I think it would be well worth the time." He decided to lead by example and at least list his own skills. "I have the standard training ranger's get from the Union- ecology, safety, first aid, natural disaster relief- basically anything that has to do with protecting the environment, and interactions between wild pokemon and humans." While trainers mastered battling, rangers were the ones keeping routes clear and rescuing runaway pets. "As a native Oblivian, I have more experience with island and sea pokemon in particular, and I can sail. My partner pokemon is a decent fighter, but I imagine the ability of recharging stylers might come in handy as well."

Tal looked, concerned, at Damon, waiting to see if the boss reacted to the others' efforts. If not, Tal was ready to step in. He was no nurse or doctor, but when his day job involved helping lost hikers, basic first aid was part of the package.

    • Seeing that Eric was still out of it, Kaede remembered that she hadn't answered Tal's question yet. "Viperia is in Ransei. So is Nixtorm, actually," she explained to her fellow ranger, though it was understandable if he (or anyone, really) had no idea what Viperia and Nixtorm were, let alone where. Granted, like Oblivia, the Arceus-shaped region was pretty far from everywhere. Kaede was highly confident that Team Rocket wouldn't dare to pull a Nobunaga as long as the Ranseian warriors were there to protect their beloved home.

Shiron, meanwhile, went from waving a paw at the boss to outright poking him on the face. This sure made her human sigh. I mean, should Eric not recover even after the "earth to Damon" poke, the blunette might as well snap him out herself.

  • Eric had finally snapped out of it when Kaede's Vulpix started poking him.

"Sorry about that. Sometimes I have flashbacks to a certain tragic event that happened in my life." Eric said. "For those of you who weren't aware, I had a girlfriend named Peggy who was a talented Pokémon Ranger. Unfortunately, she was killed in a Pokémon stampede caused by Team Rocket in Kanto a few years ago. My Snivy was her partner."
Eric began to let out a sigh of relief, muttering "thank you" under his breath.

"With that being said, I have compiled a list of wild Pokémon in the parts of Kitakami where Anabel and Looker may be being held. I will send it to you all shortly. "

Christina Wayfar - A brief briefing

    • Christina observes the changes, as Eric snaps out of whatever stupor of thought he had, and sighs, "I'm guessing that means that you didn't hear a word any of us said about needing more details and intel on the mission? let alone making sure that we can properly work as a team?" She pauses and steps forward casually, "I'm sorry for you're loss... I am, but if we're to work on this little project, well we all have our traumas to work through, but we can't afford to freeze... we freeze up we might as well pack our bags and give up on this whole venture" She wasn't saying to do that, but she was being blunt, but she was doing this to be kind, "Team Rocket won't hesitate to do to those two what they did to your girlfriend, or what they did to so many others around the world, we shouldn't hesitate either, train and prepare, absolutely, grieve? absolutely, but we know our enemy, most of us have an inkling of what they are capable of, so we should use that trauma, that grief, to fuel our desire, our need to make sure that doesn't happen to anyone else ever again" Now she was trying to... help inspire Eric a bit as well as the others, there was a fire in her tone, as if she spoke from experience as to the atrocities of team rocket.

  • Eric began to explain about the details he knew about the mission.

'We will be staying in Mossui town, and according to the locals, Team Rocket has mostly been spotted in the mountains nearby." Eric continued. "Also I have a feeling Anabel and Looker aren't the only ones who are being held captive. Some local Trainers have tried to fend off Team Rocket to protect their homes. They might not be as heavily guarded as Looker and Anabel, but they might have valuable information for us."

Eric then said "Again, sorry for spacing out like that. Peggy would want me to become stronger, and with all of us, we can stop Team Rocket once and for all!"

  • After noticing all the sudden commotion, Marcus began to question to himself if this was the best idea after all... But deciding that the alturnitive might take too long, he finally speaks up.

"Hey bossman? Uh, might I have a word with you in private? There's a misunderstanding that needs to be cleared up."

  • Gracidea added nothing, just looking at Damon with an once again blank face to hide her dismay. The man did not hear anything? Will he zone out in the middle of a battle against Team Rocket too?

No. She did not come all the way for nothing.
The detective really hoped Mewtwo's presence here was not just for the show. She elected to wait to give the group one more chance.
She would find them... and justice would be served.

    • Now that Eric came back to his senses, Shiron dutifully returned to her human. "Peggy-san and I used to work together back then, so..." the blunette folded her arms at her own reminiscence, "...yeah, I get where Damon-sama's coming from."

"But Wayfar-san has a point there," Kaede continued, nodding to Christina. "Peggy-san's passing and whatever grief Team Rocket has caused should be enough motivation to get back at 'em, alright?" Granted, Kaede was only there for a mission to help a group of resistance (no, really, that's how it was described in her recent assignment), but if anyone in the room had more personal reasons for this, well... who could blame them?

"That said, Damon-sama," she turned back to Eric. Now that Keaton wanted to have a private talk with the boss, Kaede had her partner's earlier idea in mind: "Would you mind us practicing at the holo-deck or something while you and Keaton-san are having your chat? I'm sure everyone could use a quick practice with our... Aura Suits, was it?"

And then the white fox grinned.
