    Pokémon Picross [Out now!]

Turn puzzles into portraits with Pokémon Picross! Pokémon Picross can be downloaded without charge from Nintendo eShop for systems in the Nintendo 3DS family. In Pokémon Picross, solve number puzzles to complete pictures of your favorite Pokémon. When you complete a puzzle, you'll add that Pokémon to your collection!

To solve a puzzle, look at the hint numbers above each column and next to each row. They will identify the number of squares that will be filled in on that row. Deduce where the squares are and fill them in to reveal a Pokémon portrait!

Collected Pokémon can help you solve puzzles using a variety of skills. For example, Eevee's Rising Reveal skill reveals squares vertically, centering around an activation square. Lucario's Hyper Scan skill scans the grid and fixes incorrect squares. And Squirtle's Blue Force changes the color of hint numbers to blue on rows with squares you can definitely fill in. If certain Pokémon use their skill even once, they will run out of power after you exit a stage. Pokémon will recover from their out-of-power status as time passes. There are 12 skills in all and their effects vary. Have fun collecting a lot of Pokémon and solving puzzles with their help!

There are over 300 puzzles for you to clear, plus an advanced mode. Daily Training can also help players improve their skills. Thanks to the large number of puzzles, many Pokémon appear in this game. In addition to familiar Pokémon, all Mega-Evolved Pokémon that have appeared through Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire show up to help and challenge you in this game. Be sure to keep an eye out for Legendary Pokémon and Mythical Pokémon! Try to solve many puzzles and collect many Pokémon.

Picrites are rare stones with magical power. You can obtain them in various ways during your gameplay, such as by clearing a puzzle. With Picrites you can access more and more areas. You can also help the Pokémon recover their skills by using Picrites. Picrites may also be purchased with real money in Nintendo eShop.

Look forward to Pokémon Picross arriving in Nintendo eShop in early December 2015!

    Yeesssss!

I'm so stoked for this, I love Picross and have wanted a Pokémon version for so long! ^^

And it's even more awesome as it looks likes there's more to it than simply completing the pictures, which would have been good enough but it seems to have been Pokémonified well!

What are your thoughts on it? Will you give it a go?

Yay! It comes out in time for my birthday!

I adore Picross. Mario Picross for the GameBoy was one of my favorite games growing up, and part of the reason why I'm so obsessed with pixel art. I've been waiting for a new game that makes use of Picross, and to find one that is all about Pokemon? Heck yes.

Ah Mario Picross was awesome! Play that on VC from time to time and enjoy the Picross e releases though have felt like there's something missing with them, i.e. Pokemon!

I'm not too excited for this honestly. Maybe at heart I'm not too much of a puzzle person. But I've seen quite a few people interested in it, and that makes me happy.

Well at least it's free to try so it might win you over!

I'm also really glad that this is coming to 3DS and not Mobile, or at least not a Mobile exclusive as who knows, it might get ported.

Edit: Sorry, missed your post HM! Yep it's free so hopefully it'll suck you in! :)

Omg. I jumped when I saw that. I am sooooo Happy!!!!
Picross is a game I've played a lot on DS. I tried other Picross games on 3DS, but the pictures were ugly... Like, really bad. And Pokemon Picross look like it gonna have good pictures and an old 2D way Picross.

    I can't wait!!

This looks like a really cute, fun game! I'll definitely give it a try. Whether or not I get addicted will largely depend on how challenging the puzzles are. From what I've seen, it looks like they might actually be fairly challenging. So I'm excited to try it!

It looks to be free, at least initially so I'll probably give it a go to play as a time killer, especially considering lately I've done nothing but play minesweeper, this is similar ish sort of strategy, so it should be great.

I'll 100% go for it once I had a 3DS (or they might release a mobile version)

Picross was one of my most favorite puzzle games back in the day (I loved Mario Picross, Picross DS and even the Japanese SNES one where it had a few Pokemon Puzzles), and a little fun fact: There was actually a planned Pokemon Picross game for the Game Boy too, but it was cancelled.

With that being said, I also hope that the game will have different varieties on Picross such as the Color Picross where you solve the puzzle with different colors instead of just Black.

Yeah I remember when I first got into Pokemon and looking up what games existed and saw that listed then was really bummed to find out it didnt exist for us to play!

I really enjoyed playing Picross 3D on the DS and wonder if they might include some stages like that in this as special stages or something. It would be very cool to chip away and reveal a 3D Pokemon!

You want to know a fun fact, and remember the time I mentioned about a supposed Pokemon Picross release for the Game Boy?

    Anyways:
I did not know that Picross is going to be a thing, but from what I see so far, I definitely can't wait to try it!

This came out in Japan yesterday and I've been playing it a lot since I downloaded it. I absolutely adore Picross so I figured this would be the case and I was really worried about the F2P nature of it ruining my usual "play nothing but Picross for DAYS until you've cleared every puzzle" but... well.

At first the game was incredibly frustrating. There are a lot of timers to deal with. You collect Pokemon by completing their puzzles and then each Pokemon has a skill with a recharge time. If you use the skill, you have to wait for it to recharge before you can use it again. Some Pokemon have no recharge time (but very basic skills), some are low (half an hour), some--like Legendaries--are ridiculous (like 24 hours kind of ridiculous). You start with only one slot for your party and you have to buy more with the in-game currency ("Picroids"?). You don't necessarily need to use those slots, but it's certainly easier if you do. I'm sitting at three slots now but will probably feel the need to upgrade soon.

Like Pokemon Scramble (Rumble? I forget what it is in English--I'm talking about that other free to play game that wasn't Shuffle), you also need to buy the new areas every time you want to move on. They're... pretty expensive, in the long run. I guess playing normally, it might not be a problem because I don't know how much Picroid you get on a daily basis. Maybe it's enough to make progress not gruelling?

My biggest gripe with the game is the main stamina system. Basically, you have a "P-Gauge" in the corner that increases veeerrryyyy sllloooooowwwlllyyy. It starts out at something like 50 and you have to spend Picroid to double it. The way it goes down? By placing a pen mark on the Picross board. (X's don't count, thankfully.) So for every one pen mark you put on your puzzle--basically every correct square you solve--you lose one point from your P-Gauge. The early 5x5 puzzles had like... ~10 marked pixels each, so it wasn't too bad, but you have to upgrade this gauge quickly if you want to get any lasting enjoyment out of this game. I was constantly getting SO frustrated by how few puzzles I could do. Once you get to the 10x10 boards with ~45 pixels in each (and god forbid, the 20x15 ones that can have over 100), it's really difficult to play more than one or two puzzle sat a time even with upgraded gauges. (Not to mention, if you ever get something WRONG and have to redo it, your gauge still lowers for it.) However!!! If you upgrade our P-Gauge enough times, eventually it just turns infinite. I can now play as much as I want, redo levels as many times as I want, and I have all the room in the world to make input errors without hating everything in the world. This turned the game from a frustrating mess into a very, very enjoyable game and I highly recommend at least spending enough on the game to get this upgrade early!

You can also pay an exorbitant amount of Picroids to gain access to Mega Evolution as well as "Another Mode" which seems to be just a copy of the maps from the usual mode except all the puzzles are done in a new "Mega Mode" where some of the . I thiiink a previous Picross I've played had a mode similar to this but I can't remember which one it is. It's kinda challenging since it's still pretty new to me so I enjoy it a lot. It's a better purchase than Mega Mode since each puzzle on the Another Mode maps have their own set of missions that earn you Picroids. You earn Picroids by doing dailies (training? idk, I think this is daily but I have not had the game long enough to tell!), completing little tasks on each puzzle (such as: use a Dark Type Pokemon, use a bomb-type skill, complete in under 5 minutes, etc.), gaining achievements (like: marked 500 pixels, caught 50 Pokemon, etc.), generous handouts at the beginning to get you hooked and... of course... paying.

My verdict: If you like Picross, get this and inject about $20 into it--as if it was a "real" retail game--and you will have a lot of fun with this title. If you don't like Picross, or you are very patient, get this and play despite the timers. You'll probably have fun here and there when you pick it up. If you don't like puzzles and/or HATE microtransactions and refuse to support them? Stay far, far away. There will be nothing for you here.

And my disclaimer of course: I spent ¥2800 on this game. My logic was that if they had offered this as a full priced game (which is... what... ¥5000??), I still would have happily pounced on it, so if I have to pay up to that much to enjoy it as if it were a retail game with no microtransactions, I don't really mind. I could get to the same point with enough patience and perseverance but I was much happier spending a bit instead. If I hadn't felt like the money was worth spending, I'd be livid, but I'm having such a blast with it instead, so I have no regrets. :) We'll see if my tune changes when my Picroids run out and I'm back to earning them through the default means, haha. Although really, I've got ¥2200 more to spend before it cuts off microtransactions entirely so... we'll see. ;P

(lmao sorry for rambling so long I just... wanted to get my long-form thoughts out about this game and have no other venue. :P)

Totally loving this game! It starts off a bit slow with the tutorials and stuff but once you get into it proper it's so hard to put down!

I absolutely agree with you, Cherrim, that's it's worth spending money on, I totally would have if it was released at retail, and it definitely opens up the game and let's you just have fun playing without any worry.

I'm really enjoying the Pokemony twists to it so far and can't wait to discover what else is in store!
