So, I'm not sure if this topic is still a thing... apologies if it is, and I'm just making a fool of myself. >< Feel free to direct me to the correct thread~

Anyway, what is it about the gaming aspects that really grind your gears? Is there anything you simply cannot stand when it comes to the games?

For me, it's the whole "you couldn't get away" thing. It's annoying because I'm trying to catch a Grimer right now, and all the other pokes that come up are attacking my Popplio as I try to run away from them. ;o; I notice that my Pichu seems to attract too many Magnemite if I send her out...

In my Sacred Gold nuzlock, a Rocket executive's Raticate took out one of my teammates unexpectedly, and the worst part is that I didn't see it coming. I mean I know the mon I used had shit bulk but I seriously didn't expect that at all. I looked up and Raticate's attack was boosted by 10 points so I guess it's sorta understandable now but not back then. And no I'm not spoiling what species got killed other than the fact it was someone with no defenses, as I am currently documenting the run.

...yeah, not to many complaints for now. Too much good stuff has been happening in my playthroughs. Reminder to self: make a good things that happened to your playthrough thread.

Not being able to access certain Pokemon that are locked behind events which aren't available anymore really drives me up the wall and gives players less incentive to play through older games. I hope that future re-releases of older games come with those events installed in the base game like with Celebi's event in Crystal's 3DS release. Maybe they would've done the same thing for Mew in the gen 1 re-releases if the glitch to obtain it wasn't so easy and well known these days.

what black said tbh. also events now are just not special. they're not events lmfao. just codes or wifi gifts and ugh why do the pokemon have to be so high leveled. i wanna use these things in playthroughs in my games and that's impossible when they're level 100. i missed the whole journey there. where's the fun in a level 100 that i didn't actually work to get on my own? it's the end of the line, no where to go. boring. give me events between level 5-20. hell 25 and 30 are okay. maybe even 40. maybe. but like 50 and higher it's just. not fun. lol and bring back in game events with these things. make event pokemon actually feel like an EVENT.

Shiny locks. I'm so annoyed that all the new legendaries in the games are shiny locked. I'd much rather take the time to soft-reset and catch a shiny legendary that just put in a code and have it handed to me, if a shiny version is even released at all.

    Agreeing with Syd/Black. I think at some point in the past, "events" were probably literal insofar as you'd had to travel to the nearest (insert place here) to obtain the Pokemon itself and as such I guess it can be labeled as an "event", because you'd meet other Pokemon fans who were also there to get their hands on that mythical in particular, but that hasn't been a thing in... how long? I'm not even sure. @__@;

With the way Game Freak is going gung-ho in basically giving mythical Pokemon out like cookies though, they can't really be called events as much, anymore.

Although tbh what really bothers me more than anything in Pokemon gaming and has to this day is the lack of a second save slot. It'll always be something that will annoy me because I'm just not willing to erase all the hard work in my primary file for the sake of any challenge runs that I get the itch to do. ._.

    Gear Grind

But I'll chime in an agreement with everyone discussing the state of event Pokémon. They provide no worldbuilding in newer games due to their "pick them up from the mailman and that's it" implementation, but when you go back to older games, some locations are inconspicuously empty, almost as if they're unfinished, which seems like a blemish on the game. But in reality they're the stage for the event Pokémon events that can no longer be obtained. Considering there's a large group of people who do enjoy going back and replaying the games, and even people playing as the games are new who simply can't obtain some mythicals for whatever reason, it seems there's no clear solution that can solve both these issues.

I'll also second shiny locks. They are truly awful and take away a lot of enjoyment--surely Game Freak is aware of the massive growth of the shiny hunting community, but shiny locks actively hamper them. It's one thing to shiny lock the main legendary, that has been a required catch for many games in a row now, but the rest of the legendaries (and even some non-legendaries...) have no legitimate reason to be shiny-locked.

One extra thing is requiring Pokémon to be obtained in the newest games for use in VGC. I understand why they do it, but it makes transferring older Pokémon pointless, as those competitively bred and trained creatures have no use simply because they were obtained in an older game. Having to rebreed and train the same Pokémon you already have ready is especially exhausting. If there was, I dunno, say a substantial post-game area with competitive facilities, maybe there'd be more use for those Pokémon and therefore more incentive to transfer them up at all.

i just remembered i'm mad alolan dugtrio wasn't made sooner so that's like six generations of pokemon that are lame by default

Shiny locks. Those are honestly just stupid as hell. I can understand why some Pokemon can't be shiny like Spiky Eared Pichu, but there's really no point in making it so certain legendary Pokemon can literally never be shiny without the use of an event. It was never like this before generation Five, aside from Celebi, and Arceus, it seems. Get rid of this stupid shiny lock. No one likes it.

Sometimes just the luck based mechanics bother me.

I was playing a Rom Hack today and reached Whitney. I'm in the minority who usually does not considering her a problem, even in a difficulty back I don't think she's intimidating.

So I had her down to just Miltank. I had 6 party members left. I was constantly getting stuck in attract, and repeatedly getting paralyzed by Body Slam. I lowered her defense twice with Screech. It did not matter when no Pokemon I had could even hit her. In the end I had only Umbreon left, and I could have won with Quick Attack, but again paralyzed and can't move. Then to end it she gets a critical hit with Rollout. It all felt a bit ridiculous.

The next time I used an X speed + Bulk Up twice and sweept her entire team from the start.

When new Pokémon are available only near the end of the game, it's frustrating to not be able to use a new Pokémon you really like for a good portion of your play-through if you want to do it organically without having to trade for one. I get that they want some "surprises" continually for the whole region but we live in the internet age, most people will know the available Pokémon before going into it. Also we have plenty of popular Pokémon from older generations to choose from, I'd prefer if all new Pokémon lines were accessible from around the time of the 4th/5th badge at the latest and for the rest of the region to have previously introduced Pokémon and evolved forms of already available new Pokémon as the exciting encounters of the new areas onward.
