(OOC: Kansas, you're in. Accepted.)
"Hey Mav," Ashley said, without even noticing Kite standing there, waiting for her to move aside. "Did you hear the rumors about the basement? There's been some pretty weird stuff going on lately. Have you noticed how the scientists have been acting the last few days?" Her tail stiffened at something. "What happened to you? And I don't want to hear you say 'nothing' like Aiden. I want the truth."
She turned slightly, then out of the corner of her eye, saw Kite standing there, arms crossed and tapping his foot impatiently, somehow in virtual silence. She might have blushed, although it was difficult to tell what with all the fur and all. Making hybrids must be a very imprecise process, Kite thought, and not for the first time. The variations in appearances the process could create were enormous. On one hand, you had people like Ashley and that little pushover hybrid from earlier, who looked more like Pokemon than human, as though they were Pokemon who had learned to walk on two feet and wear clothing. And then you had people like Kite, who barely had any changes in their appearance at all. In his own case, all that had happened to Kite was a change in color of his skin, eyes, and hair, plus those tattoo-ish things on his face. He didn't really know where those had come from; there wasn't anything too like them on an actual Magnezone. He reckoned that if he ever did escape from the facility, he would pass off pretty well, at least in appearance, for just a human. Ashley on the other hand, well, unless she was going to die if she stayed, then Kite doubted that she would be any better off outside.
Kite uncrossed his arms and walked past Ashley. He now saw she had been talking to a Swampert hybrid. He couldn't quite recall his name, although he believed it began with an M. Ashley had called him "Mav". Maveron, maybe?
"Alright! You may be able to hide in the shadows and walk quietly, but you can't hide your scent. Come out now or I'm using you as charcoal. If you're not an enemy than come out and show us. There's no reason to sneak around listening to others' conversations like a criminal."
Kite stopped walking and glanced behind him. Ashley was turned in the direction he had been coming from, a small flame spurting from her mouth, and smoke flying from her nostrils. Apparantly she had either heard or smelled someone hiding in a corner somewhere. Kite himself didn't see anything, but he reached out with a weak magnetic field. As one of the field lines crossed a disturbance, he detected the presence of a person there too, although the kind of which he couldn't even begin to tell. Feeling for objects via magnetic fields was much easier underwater.
"You might not believe it, even if I went into huge detail." The being whose name Kite thought began with an M started talking. "You see, it just happened today. When I was having my physical, I was suddenly told to lift a whole 3 ton weight, so that's what caused the muscle strain. But then, for some reason, I was directed to the battle arena! Then I noticed that no one was in there. The scientist who was doing the physical set 2 dummies as, you'll never believe it, a Sceptile and a Venusaur, set to an aggressive hard level."
Oh, shut it, Kite thought, as the hybrid continued to go on telling his little story. This is not a good moment for storytime. But the hybrid didn't seem to notice his annoyed glances and continued on with his story, ending with, "And then, I woke up in my room and wondered why I was dragged up the stairs. Then, I went down to the Cafeteria, had my food and then was taken to another physical. I realized at about that point that the first physical was fake! But why…?"
Well sounds like they're paying extra attention to you for some reason, Kite thought, although he didn't actually say it out loud. Ashley, on the other hand, hadn't seemed to have paid much attention to the story, and was still peering down the hallway at their unseen eavesdropper. Eavesdropping, Kite reflected, wasn't really a crime. He for one, did it all the time. But if Ashley thought it dangerous, than maybe it was. His chains started to slink around his arms, legs, and torso, quietly unraveling themselves into combat stance.
