"Pokemon is for Boys"

What were stupid things nonfans of Pokemon have told you in the past? Pokemon is for boys was one of the ones I heard from 5th graders on the school bus.

Pokemon was frequently clubbed together with Doraemon as a kids show. I still get to hear "You still watch Pokemon?" though I barely watch the anime. Folks here don't know about Pokemon games other than go :^\
And then there was the "Pokemon is satanic" thing.

For a lot of people the games are boring. Turn-based strategy style combat just isn't for everyone. I used to get mad at folks who said this but now I understand.

I do agree though that having the same formula over and over and over again for the main series gets stale after a while. This is why I often turn to romhacks and spin-offs to spice things up.

I mean, at first that kinda was true. Pokémon was meant to be a game for boys because they didn't think a game like that would be appealing to girls, but that stopped being a thing since Gen 2 where you became able to choose between a male and female protagonist.

^Well to be fair just because something is targeted at a specific gender doesn't mean only that gender will play it, so of course there had to be both options at one point.

And I was mostly really just joking in my post, so let's not have this go too far, okay?

Probably just the "Pokemon is for kids" thing, to which I'm like "it's just a video game series, pretty sure you can play them at any age". lol

I always take the male avatar, however I find that in general (not always) the female avatar is much more interesting from an aesthetic point of view and even if now we can customize our avatar I really feel that the possibilities with girls are always greater than with boys.

I can vouch for this. I don't like how some find it weird when guys choose female avatars. We're not all perverts okay?? Some of us just like the look of the female better.

I had a family member who thought Pokemon was evil witchcraft.

I loved her unconditionally and she's since passed away...but that was an awkward moment for me since Pokemon is something I enjoy. I'm guessing she just had older values and didn't understand certain medias.
