6th Gen Pokemon Smash Discussion (latest: 7-20-13)

Spoiler:

I only watched this footage, but where are the rock smash rocks?

The running reminds me of the Gamecube games. So it doesn't really matter to me. I just hope running shoes is a one click thing where you don't have to hold a button down, like in HGSS. I am a bit disappointed that they didn't show Oorotto at least. I am getting tired of all the fan made pictures of it.

At 1:15 on the beach.

I hope there won't be that much HM's in this generation, or at least introduce more interesting ones...

The game has new graphics. How can you be sure that it's a rock smash rock?

Truth is, I'm not sure... Many people are guessing it's a rock smash rock. It's been around since G/S/C and has kept the same design, being a rock with cracks around it...

Although we only saw some basics with the new battle system, I'm loving it. I don't think the two circles thing means anything, it's just there showing each Pokémon has it's own space. Now that we have more screen space and the camera shifting around a bit it makes sense. Plus Xerneas and Yveltal's signature moves looked awesome to me.

Agreeing that the rock we're discussing MIGHT be a Rock Smash rock, but we can't be too sure yet. It does have the cracked appearance that each generation's rocks have had, but at the same times the past ones have looked...more cracked? Usually like they were on the verge of falling apart. That one didn't really have that appearance to me.

Let's take a look at HG/SS rocks:

Now, the rock from the footage:

It certainly doesn't look nearly as cracked as that rock lol.
Maybe those are not cracks, but actually the outlines that define the shape of the rock?

If those rocks are for smashing, then there should at least be another wild Pokémon that can appear, preferably a new 6th Gen. Pokémon. Goedude and the less common Shuckle just aren't working out anymore. I hope it's not a Rock Smashable rock, and if it is, then I hope that smashing them is optional. Rock Smash is a very weak attack and I'd rather not waste a move slot for it. Speaking of HMs, does anyone think that they'll be forgettable without the help of a move deleter? I sure hope so.

This image was way larger than intended...

I hope that we can fish a lot earlier in this game than in the previous ones.

I like how fishing is coming back to the main story but I wonder if this time we'll get a singular fishing rod as opposed to the three we got prior to 5th Gen. It would be cool, and I'm still wondering where that island where Inkay can be caught is located.

And I'm hoping the games will have almost little-to-no requirements for HMs like what was in 5th Gen. Black/White and Black 2/White 2 did a really good job at not putting that many HM roadblocks in the main story.

Has anyone attempted to do the math with Honedge? Like try and figure out his stats based on the fight with Octillery? We can only assume some parts like the Natures and IV's of the Pokemon, but I tried to give it a shot!

Honedge Lv 32 - HP 88 = Based on this Honedges base stat is most likely 60
*Uses Shadow Sneak on Octillery, does 1/4 damage* I used Psypokes Damage Calculator but used Dusknoir instead of Honedge. Using Octillery's Lv, Hp, Def and Honedges Lv, Dusknoirs Atk, It would do a Min of 18 damage and a Max of 22. Octillery's lowest possible HP stat at 35 is 97. So 22 x 4 = 88. Therefore, and assuming this is correct, Dusknoir doesn't do 1/4 damage to Octillery with Shadow Sneak, meaning Honedge's Attack Stat is greater than Dusknoirs. Dusknoirs Attack stat is 100, so Honedges atk stat is greater than 100.

I guess you could also find out Honedges Sp. Def, but I'm not too sure what moves Octillery used..

First, Octillery used Signal Beam (which Honedge 4x resists), followed by Octazooka (which Honedge is neutral to).

Okay this time I used Toxicroak as it resists Bug x4.
Lv 32 Toxicroak : Sp. Def: 46

Octillery's Signal Beam does a Min of 8 damage and a Max of 10. Honedge took 11 damage, which means it's Sp. Def. is a bit lower then Toxicroak's.

Base Sp. Def (65) Toxicroak Max Damage intake : 10
Base Sp. Def (???) Honedge Damage intake : 11

They're pretty close so Honedge's base Sp. Def stat is most likely 60, maybe 65. Just to check I'll see Octozooka and edit it on to this.

Okay so Octazooka on Croagunk does min 46 and max 55, and Octazooka does 57 on Honedge. Octazooka does x1 on both Toxicroak and Honedge. Seeing as though Honedge took a bit more damage, I think that strengthens the idea of Honedge having a base Sp. Def stat of 60.

SO!
Honedge Predictions:
HP : 70
Atk : 100+
Def : ???
Sp. Atk. : ???
Sp. Def : 60
Speed :45+

I can't check but I'm PRETTY sure Honedge attacked first. Not to mention Honedge was 3 levels lower than Octillery.

First off, well done on trying to deduce Honedge's stats. Seems like it all makes sense from your reasoning. Actually seems to match what I was thinking its stats were going to be as well: a fast glass-canon type of Pokémon that uses its resistances to get onto the field. Assuming that 45+ ends up on the high end, then that'd fit perfectly.

Ahh I miscalculated Honedges HP base stat.
Sandslash has a base HP stat of 75. At lv 32 Sandslash's HP is 90.
Purugly has a base HP stat of 71. At Lv 32 Purugly's HP is 87.
At Lv 32 Honedge's HP is 88.
SOOOOO Honedges HP base stat should be around 70-75.

I really liked the footage, I think I'm going to enjoy the feel of the games. One thing I'm a tad concerned about is the potential presence of Rock Smash, and a greater presence of HMs in general. That seems unlikely though, seeing as the fan reaction to BW's HM hate was so positive! I'm glad to see Honedge in battle (and some badass move animations), it looks much better than it did in stills.

I am the only one who noticed the grid system the ground tiles on the sand had? I know the game is incomplete, but they look ugly. Hopefully it's incomplete, but if not it has a really unfinished look IMO.
