6th Gen Pokemon Smash Discussion (latest: 7-20-13)

I hope you can access that Island early on, I want to capture and use Inkay from early on in-game! ;;

IKR?! I really wanted a tiny Inkay near the start of the game ;^; but it looks really doubtful we won't get it until later, my guess is after the fifth gym. I hope I'm wrong!

I am the only one who noticed the grid system the ground tiles on the sand had? I know the game is incomplete, but they look ugly. Hopefully it's incomplete, but if not it has a really unfinished look IMO.

At this point, I feel like they're just refining certain things, fixing bugs and everything is more or less done, if not that then they're definitely close to that "Beta" stage. So I suppose it's possible they'll edit or adjust them a bit, but honestly, I think they look fine. The only one that bothers me a bit is the grass tile, it looks a bit choppy... but I feel like that may be due to other things (3D maybe?)

Well, I can't understand why is our pkmn's status bar under it and not in the bottom right, in the empty space.

I really hope Inkay isn't an early Pokémon. That would mean it's highly possible it'll be weak.

Oh wonderful, the return of the worst HM ever.

Have you heard of Cut, sir? IMO Cut is, like, ten times worse. 95% accuracy, Normal-type, no side effects. Rock Smash is bad, but it has a good secondary effect and useful typing.

It would be weird if cut returned in 3D.Unless you use it to cut trees that are already worn down a bit.

Cut's good because it's used once or twice at the beginning of the game and then basically has no use after that.

Rock Smash appears throughout the game and just appears at the most inconvenient times. :(

Question about Fishing. Did they ever say in the video that this is Pre-End game? Fishing never left so I don't understand the "OMG FISHING RETURNED!" posts....From what I've seen there is no way to tell if the part with fishing is Pre or Post end game. Do we know what rod he used? Has there been confirmation that it is indeed pre-end game at all or is everyone assuming its pre-end game? To me, since Gen 5 was the last, I see it the exact same run as Gen 5 since Gen 5 was the reset. Fishing wasn't a major thing until post game so I don't see Fishing being available until Post game in X and Y.

That's because a lot of the high level areas in Pokémon are inside caves so there's a lot of Rock Smash rocks unfortunately, but I've been caught in a Cut area in BW2 without having Cut and it's every bit as annoying if not more.

Rock Smash had a cool use in HGSS, although it was also annoying and luck based.

I was thinking the other day, "geez, everyone, including myself are underwhelmed by the wailmer shadow during surf." Then, it came to me. Perhaps the demo was an illusion. Perhaps, the user was using surf with a Wailmer. Thus, they didn't want to reveal a new feature regarding surfing with your species of pokemon until a later time, and it would be even more of a shock during that reveal given that we all just assumed that the feature didn't exist after seeing a Wailmer shadow in the demo. Fingers crossed that GF is the master manipulator in revealing information, and I will be able to surf with a Milotic!

Also, I am thinking that rideable pokemon might be required for a certain route(s). Maybe even requiring a new HM like "Stampede" or "Trample". An HM that is actually useable in battle.

It would be so awesome if they did this, but I doubt anytime soon. I mean, Pidgey can use Fly. Tauros can use Surf. Somehow I can't exactly picture myself doing these..
Wailord would take up 25863879425 grid-squares. IF they did tone down Wailords size, it would destroy the whole "3D realistic" look.
There's heaps of reasons why they haven't done this yet, but hopefully they'll fix these dilemmas soon.

With the addition of riding some pokemon, this would be a good generation to introduce being able to see your actual pokemon while surfing. But considering that Surf will probably be more widespread than whether a pokemon is ridable, along with the fact that the models for a pokemon swimming would be different than it battling, means perhaps not until Gen 7.

Signal Beam, Shadow Sneak... for me, the part of this video I paid the most attention to was the new animations for moves, because the presentation of moves is something which has always interested me. I liked the presentation of all of them, but I felt as those the evil red eyes from Shadow Sneak was a bit too much. Many pokemon which use Shadow Sneak, such as Kecleon, I imagine them just sneaking up more like a prankster than a malevolent spirit.

Hey guys! Question. What is the second move Froakie uses? It shows it lunging forward just slightly with water, yet it does not give me the vibe of either waterfall or aqua jet.

At Lv 5 Froakie knows:
Pound
Leer
Bubble
At Lv 8 Froakie knows:
Pound
Leer
Bubble
Quick Attack

For me it looked a lot like Pound.

What if someone hacks surf on a Pokemon?
It might not be possible now but in the future it most likely will be.
Imagine surf at a Pokemon like sunkern?
And also Ludvisc can learn surf as well. That thing is really small so how do you even ride it?
I think we will still have the shadow.

Though, luvdisc is larger and heavier than squirtle, of which Ash used to surf in the first pokemon movie. And, why should anyone be able to hack in non-surfing pokemon that know surf; GF shouldn't be accommodating hacked move-sets, so if one were to use surf with sunkern I would expect the game to freeze.

The second move that Froakie used on Fletchling was indeed Quick Attack.

In the very first trailer of X and Y Froakie charged at the Patrat and starting appearing and tackling from everywhere. I thought this would be Fury Swipes, but since Froakie learns Pound and not Scratch it most likely won't learn claw-based moves, so my second prediction was Quick Attack as the animation closely resembles the animation of Quick Attack in the anime. How do you know that it's definitely Quick Attack? Did the Japanese Host's say it or..?

The "It's Returned!" piece tends to be used a lot in fandoms for things that didn't even leave. What is usually meant by this is it's "appearing again", only it's returning sounds better xD.

The rod doesn't seem like an old rod to me, so it may be super.

You remember the surfing Pikachu ? They made a special surfing sprite just for it, you even have it in Gen 2.
