Whilst I think it's a cute idea, I can't help but see the overlap between different sections. Region building is already a big aspect of several of the creative forums as they are now.

Perhaps it would make for an interesting forum-wide event, but I can't really see it as a stand alone, permanent forum.

Perhapsit can start out as a summer event test forum?

That's what makes it great though.
It would be something that could bring together people from parts of the forums that normally wouldn't interact and further develop this "community" feeling that we all love about PC.

I'm sceptical if this works out as intended. While it sounds good on paper I could easily imagine the different creation philosophies from all the different forums clashing against each other. That is, if they ever decide to join in the first place. In that regard I can easily see the people from the Roleplay section having a hugh advantage over all the others, because they seem to be the most versed in terms of worldbuilding/character development and I can see game developers being too busy with their own games.

In general I feel inactivity becoming a hugh problem similar to the happenings at the beginning of PCL

Just keep in mind that when the forum is started, a lot of people want to create their own thread, only to later realize, that it's too much effort for what it's worth it, which means that a lot of those threads will die down and chances are that at the end, there's only a handful of threads remaining and only a selected few are going to be regulars at that point (and chances are, most of them are going to be roleplayers). At that point having a complete forum for this might be a little bit too much.
Even if those people would participate in different regions, that would become really boring, because at the end of the day, it's still only those chosen few who try to contribute.

Thanks for the feedback but I'm not sure I see where you're coming from here - where is this big effort coming from once you've finished the biggest job of creating the original thread? There'll be events and scenarios popping up a lot so it's not like you constantly have to think of new things to update your thread with, and I'm not sure what your basis is for saying that roleplayers will be the only ones to become regulars - the forum isn't based on roleplaying and roleplaying will only make up a small part of some threads/events at most, the majority of which will happen in the RP forum itself with links to the regions. I feel like you're really over-estimating the ratio of roleplaying to everything else in these threads.

That's actually another good point.
These regions could also quite easily become resources for RPers, writers and hackers/game developers as well (with permission from or at least credit to the creator I would prefer).

Honestly I don't see anything negative coming out of this. It will either be a huge benefit to our extremely multifaceted community, or it will fail and we'll be right back where we are. I'd love to see a section like this thrive. At the very least I'd like us to at least be able to say we tried to bring about something really good for the community.

Mm, the forum would originally be on a test-run basis and won't go ahead if it doesn't achieve what we're hoping for within the trail run, so worst-case scenario is we all get to have fun for a month or two and delete it at the end if it doesn't work out haha.

I worry that trialling a forum filled with what could be huge undertakings with only a select few taking part might not reflect the overall interest in that forum either way though. You're liable to find that there's a lot of supporters who like world building but that the wider community doesn't, or alternatively the opposite and that few supporters are interested but that the wider community is.

On the same token though, I don't exactly seek to strip supporters of a privilege. I'd just like to see scaling considered by the staff regardless of the direction things go in the trial.

Oh I definitely agree, I'd prefer for it to be released publicly at first too but small steps and all that stuff :D

Testing something new is always good. We PC bruhs literally have nothing to lose. We try it out, doesn't work out, take off. I recommend having it on a test run for 2-3 weeks.

Ultimately it's up to the staff but considering the long term nature of the projects that would appear in that kind of a forum I don't 2-3 weeks is anywhere near long enough.

Maybe before a full public release, after the supporter-only trial, open it to the public, but no normal member should make region just to observe/ post in other people's regions and see how they feel about what's already happening?

I feel like more people participating in the few regions created by supporters will push for that startup activity rather the letting everyone create their own regions at once and then letting them die after a few posts would really help in the overall activity and long run if this were to become a permanent forum.

I'm so down for this. So much potential and abundant space for creativity to bloom. It'd be an awesome project that we as a collective can all strive towards completion and have immense fun at the same time. :D

Or threads could be moderated and require approval. :)

I kinda assumed this would be more something implemented within the actual released. Things like Roleplays, Game Dev and ROM hacks carry that sort of thing. What I was suggesting was sort of before that happened and more or a pre-push for startup activity before the full release :p.
