[PokeCommunity.com] Professor Kuiki Gives you your starter!

In the Japanese trailer for Pokemon ultra sun and ultra moon Professor Kuiki's name is shown asking for which starter you want to choose.

I don't know anything else about it.

Huh, interesting. I wonder how this means the beginning will play out? In Sun and Moon you had to wait for Hala to come and give you your starter which lead you to meet Lillie and Tapu Koko while waiting, but here Kukui just goes ahead and gives you one.

Cool. but why is the popplio floating
It hints to Popplio's evolution being Water/Flying, clearly. :P

I am fine whether we get the starter differenty or not.

Good that someone translated a bit of dialogue there. I do wonder how the lead-up to choosing the starter will play out this time, because in S/M the protagonist was new to Alola. Maybe this could imply that the US/UM protagonists are Alola natives and not the same player characters that were in S/M.

I thought that the official site mentioned that they were from Kanto. Also, the wording from the Trailer implies that they're the same (well, the alternate world form) as the original Sun and Moon xD.

Edit: Found it! This is what the site says- The look of the main characters' outfits has changed from the first trip through the Alola region—just in time for them to begin a new adventure! Choose the Pokémon that will become your partner, and set out on a journey through the world of Alola!

I'd wait for Bulbapedia to update their pages with the new official art, just to see if it is confirmed they are the same protagonists from S/M. I noticed the new "Moon" has the same sideswept bangs the original Moon had.

Edit: It looks like Bulbapedia did do it. Guess this is the first time that a set of protagonists has changed outfit within another game of the same generation since Lucas and Dawn in the Sinnoh games.

Uh, you trust Bulbapedia more than the official site which said so first? xD.

Yup! It is, and only the third time that happens.

This is a good change because hopefully it means we can save immediately before selecting our starter.
True. Plus not going through cutscenes before getting the starter be nice. It is painful for those trying to get a shiny starter.

And then just watch as as soon as you go in to select your starter, you have to sit through yet another hour-long cutscene that has something like Kukui explain every single little bit about the starters, followed by Lillie coming in trying to chase after Nebby, and you have to take a break from selecting the starters in order to get Nebby back. Do I also have to mention that this is also part of the same cutscene as well, and you likely won't be able to move the player?

I really do hope it's the case this time, considering it looks like we won't have to deal with Lillie and saving Nebby. The long cutscenes and tutorials in S/M also copped loads of backlash so I do hope Game Freak may have learned from that.

I also hope this means we don't have to do that thing where "the starter chooses us". It was a good idea on paper, but a pain for soft-resets (I literally spent up to two hours SRing for an Adamant Litten >~<).

Wait what? I don't remember that. It sounds really annoying...
Really, you don't remember it? Basically it was a cutscene of you and your starter staring at each other with some of the other characters watching until the starter finally jumps into your arms. Coming from someone who was actually ok with most of the Sun and Moon cutscenes, this one was just unnecessarily long.

Oh, it's just a cutscene? Thank goodness I thought there was actually a chance the starter would be like "nope."
