    Get-Together 2023 Pokémon Challenge
← RUNNING OUT OF TIME →

Current scores (Challenge Points) - will be updated at the end of the event:
    Apricorns: 1330 → 295 GT points
    Gears: 1350 → 300 GT points

As it turns out, two professors from different time periods suddenly bumping into each other in a place neither belongs to is not the only weird thing happening right now in Area Zero. More time anomalies are occurring, more strange items are appearing, and there's a lot to be discovered - or be afraid of - as you all try to make sense of what happened. Time to learn more and experiment with these anomalies yourself as you try to help Grand Oak and Laventon to get back to their time! What could possibly go wrong?

    General Rules:
    • This Challenge can be played on any Pokémon game or fangame, as long as it's completed by defeating the usual 8 gyms (or trials) and the following Elite 4 and League. For games set in Alola, Kahuna battles act as the even-numbered gyms, while odd-numbered gyms correspond to the Verdant Trial, Wela Volcano Park, Abandoned Supermarket and Vast Poni Canyon trials. Each stretch of the game between two gyms (or the trials mentioned above) will be referenced to as Segment.
    • The Challenge is considered completed once you get the credits to roll!
    • Legendary and Mythical Pokémon are banned from this challenge. Pokémon Amie, Refresh, and the EXP Share are allowed in all games in which they exist.
    • If you need to evolve a Pokémon through trading, feel free to do so. Otherwise, no trading allowed. Similarly, hacking or trading in items is allowed for evolutions, provided it is unavailable before the Elite Four in your game.
    • Map will be updated at least once per day - please be patient if you don't get everything sorted out immediately! We'll do our best ♥
    • Talking points (a.k.a. the main reason why you all come play): beating 4 gyms and posting the relative update here will grant you - as a single player - 100 Challenge Points, which will become 200 when you finish your challenge. Challenge points can also be added through certain rules and achievements you may be able to get as you explore the challenge maps (see below)!
    • How does this translate to GT Points? The team who obtains the most Challenge Points will be awarded 300 GT points at the end of the event, while the second team will obtain a lower amount of GT points, depending on how far behind the first team they were.
We'll just do a basic proportion - winner team's challenge points : 300 GT points = second team's challenge points : second team's GT points.
    • If you have any questions, feel free to message us Challenge Mods, Eleanor and Janp.

    Out-of-Time Challenge Rules
    • The "Challenge" here is that you will not only play the game of your choosing, but also will move on the maps below. When you sign up, choose your starting position and a trainer sprite that should represent you on the map in your sign-up. Feel free to specify which gender and generation you want your sprite to be from - and for Gen VI+ trainer classes, please choose an older overworld sprite to represent you in the game map below.
    • After finishing each Gym, post in the thread and include the number of a room adjacent to where your character is. If you're standing in a room with a time warp, you can also choose to walk through it. Who knows where it will take you? Your character will then move to the selected room the next time I update the thread and you will be given an additional rule, which you have to play with for the remainder of the run unless mentioned otherwise. This way, you will have a very unique (and hopefully fun) Challenge. If you want to check the list of your rules, just click on your character on the map.
    • After signing up or obtaining a badge, please wait until you are told what your new rule is before proceeding.
    • In the case of a contradiction between the general rules here and the personalized rules from moving through the map, the text of the personalized rule prevails unless noted otherwise.

    FIND SPECIAL ARTIFACTS!
There are several ancient artifacts you can find during this event. These artifacts are so cursed that they will add new rules to every player from your team (or both!) currently participating in the event. These rules are also known as Global Rules and take effect with your next update or from the moment you found out about them (your choice).

    ACHIEVEMENTS ARE BACK!
That's right! Explore the map, investigate weird time portals and find things out of their time! Maybe, if you're good enough, you'll hit a jackpot!

    Sign-up:
    Name:
Trainer Class: (if your chosen class doesn't have one already, please choose a small, gen 5 or older Overworld sprite we can use for the map!)
Your favourite time traveller: (Grand Oak or Laventon?)
    Game of choice:
Where you want to start on the map (you can only choose areas that are already lit up):

Check your information on the player board below!

Challenge created by Eleanor and Janp.

    ████████ GLOBAL RULES ████████

    GLOBAL RULES

The Prehistoric age* - You can only use Grass and Normal-types for the next segment.
The Medieval age* - You can only use Fighting and Fairy-types for the next segment, or in alternative, only Normal-types.
Towards the new future - You have to put a Fairy-type Pokémon (or Pokémon that turns into a Fairy-type in later gens) on your team until the end of the game. It has to use Explosion or any of its variants (or if it can't learn any, then it has to use the strongest attack it currently knows) in each Gym Battle. It's not affected by any other rule.
Sounds sort of like a... - Players of Team Apricorns have to put a Pokémon with type combination of Rock and Ground (either Rock/Ground or Ground/Rock) on their team for the following segment. If you can't, you have to put pure Rock or pure Ground-type Pokémon on your team for the following segment. This Pokémon is unaffected by all other rules.
Time heals all wounds - Creationism is no longer a rule.
Time debt - At the end of your next segment, you can permanently box / release up to 4 Pokémon who battled against the last Gym leader / Kahuna / Captain you faced and obtain 10 Challenge Points for each.
In another time... - Devalue and tenthcompation switched up Clueless and The 12 Monkeys rules.

    * = given that these rules restrict you to using different types of Pokémon and can become contradictory if applied during the same segment, you are welcome to follow them during subsequent segment, instead of "as soon as you know about them".

Thought about Black or Scarlet. Preferred not to possibly troubleshoot the former. Worried about time for the latter. Has not played Fire Red in a long time either, though. Was on the list of games to play.

  • Okay, map is updated. As you can see, there are some items you can interact with before you move to the next room. But that might have a huge consequences. Maybe you'll better just ignoring them?

Future 2: There isn't much, but maybe you can find a good book to kill some time?
Future 3: There is a mysterious machine. Or you can also check books in this room.
Past 1: You can see some pressure plate on the floor. Also, is that a blue computer in the corner?
Past 2: Not much to do, right? Maybe that yellow computer might have some information on what to do next?

    User Cubeth's Time Traveling Adventures

Game: Pocket Monster Fire Red Version (2004) for the Gameboy Advance

    Rules:
    Spoiler:

    Part 1:

I started my journey through the region of Kanto by stepping out of Pallet Town fully knowing I would die. Thankfully for this challenge, NPC and Pocket Monster Professor Professor Oak stopped me and took me to his Pocket Monster Lab where my rival Poop was waiting to get a Pokémon for himself. Despite Poop arriving at the lab much earlier than me, I was the first one to get a Pokémon for some reason, and my choice was a Charmander which I called Dinosaur because I got what's probably the most horrible rule to start this game with.

After easily beating Poop in my first (in-game) battle I left to do some errands for Professor Professor Oak and then I got a PokéDex and 5 PokéBalls, 4 of which I lost trying to catch Miranda the Mankey in Route 22, where I also beat Poop a second time.

Running out of time - GT 2023 Pokémon Challenge

I went to Viridian Forest where Dinosaur learned Metal Claw and then I went to Pewter City's Gym where I challenged Gym Leader Brock, the Rock-Type Gym-Leader from Pewter City. The strategy was to spam Brock's Onix with Miranda's Leer and then use Metal Claw to hopefully one-shot it, since I can't use Low Kick to save myself, but it didn't work because Dinosaur wasn't strong enoug to one shot and was too slow to hit a second time after being hit with Rock Tomb once.

Trying to figure out a way to outspeed Onix, I stumbled into a Weedle with a big ass nose who I called Bigassnose, which ended up being the most pointless name I've ever given to a Pokémon because when she reached level 10 she ended up having only a big ass instead. That said, Bigassnose had what I needed which was String Shot, which I'm able to use despite its type because it's a status move. I still lost the first rematch against Leader Brock the Rock Type Leader because Dummysaur missed the second Metal Claw, but after trying it again I won. Dinosaur evolved at the end of that battle.

Sorry for the horrifying resolution of my screenshots, it's MyBoy's fault. I will move to Future 5, without checking a book.

Your favourite time traveller: Laventon... with Grovyle as his partner?
Game of choice: Still teetering between Sun or Moon but probably not Ultra... Finally decided on Sun.
Where you want to start on the map: Past 2, please.

Also, remind me, which team is Devalue again? They have access to Team Apricorn's private chat yet listed under Team Gears here...

    Session 1
I beat Brock. Caught only the most common Pokémon I could find in each area. There were ties for Route 1, Route 2, and Route 22, so I caught Pidgey, Rattata, and Mankey. I got a Caterpie at Viridian Forest.

    Team is as follows:
    Bulbasaur Lv14
    Pidgey Lv11
    Rattata Lv3
    Caterpie Lv4
    Mankey Lv4

    Actions:
I check Mysterious Machine and move to Future 6 (if possible).

  • First, I'm letting y'all know that I've settled with Sun for my game.

Second, I have a question: Do new players need to wait for their rules before getting a starter?
