What if they wound up including a side-story into these games (which you would be able to apply within a separate save file), where you get to play through perspective of a member of either Team Magma or Aqua--possibly depending on your version? If they actually do go towards this route, how would you expect it to turn out? Personally, I think it would be awesome, as we've never had anything like this before. They don't make games based off point of view of villains (since they're targeted at everyone, including children), so perhaps they might be able to make this character good at heart, and eventually break out from their respective group and maybe spoil some of their plans to help May/Brendan stop them from succeeding. :] It would be very interesting, in my opinion.

OMG YES They should have a side story but I guess with the flow of the games, it might be unlikely but we never know ;D

Any sort of side-story would be welcome, perhaps like the XY Looker Quests. Multiple save files makes things weird, but the idea of expanding upon the world and lore of Hoenn and its characters is always welcomed by me! And since Aqua and Magma are more of a "good heart but bad actions" set of teams, it would really be cool to spend some time acting as a member of their team and getting more of an inside look of how they work. They're not as conflicted as Team Plasma, but it's still just enough to really add a significant amount of depth to the teams.

Team Aqua grunt POV story for me, please.
I really think it would be amazing. Starting off with your cute little Poochyena, traveling around Hoenn with your fellow members, first believing to be in the correct, just cause, all the while slowly starting to question the way Team Aqua thinks and acts upon its ultimate goal. Finally detaching yourself from the Team just before the rampaging of the Legendary pokemon begins, and helping the hero from the background without ever being noticed, making yourself a secret hero. Gosh, it sounds epic. <3

A side story or a secondary gameplay would be awesome, but I don't really get how the 3DS would handle separate saves. I guess it would be all right, and getting to be a Team Magma/Aqua Grunt would really make my day. Perhaps we can help sabotage their plans to take over Slateport City, or something of that sort. It would be an interesting twist.

I would be all over that. I love Team Aqua's uniform, and water is among my favorite types. Kyogre is my favorite legendary as well, so it all fits perfectly haha. Actually, I think a story like that in all of the Pokemon games would be really entertaining. You'd get to see the inter working of the team, and go deep inside their headquarters, view the leaders' plans, and go on missions to stop the hero. Sounds awesome to me! :]

I was actually hoping this in someway would involve the Gen 5 sky trio with Rayquaza as the leading plot, but if they make that a post-game side quest that would be even better. Especially with them being weather oriented.

What if Zygarde and Rayguaza have some kinda link? if you read about Zygarde's description in x and y and at its typing being dragon/ground, Rayquaza being dragon/flying and they both have something to do with the eco system.. think about this; it could inspire a story itself.

Or with team magma some how getting a hold of a heatran at mount chimney somehow.
Or Having Regigias be apart of the trio mission - or have a new guy trying to awaken Gigas with the 3 Regis he steals before you can catch them after they are resealed.

Or something about Steven regarding the mega stone discoveries; or him and the new Dianche legendary reference.

I really don't see GF letting you be a completely different character besides the main protagonist. It doesn't really make sense for them to suddenly do that. They could potentially do a BW2-esque flashback kinda thing with the villain teams, and maybe bend the story a little so that you would be disguised as part of Team Magma/Aqua at some point, but to actually have a complete side-story as one of the members and be able to control him or her? Highly doubt it.

It would be extremely interesting though.

I''m not quite as optimistic about the idea myself. It could be interesting, but not straightforward to implement. For instance, suppose you catch a Pokémon while playing as this hypothetical side character. What happens when the plot ends for that character and you go back to the main one - does that go away forever? Or the Pokémon transfer to the protagonist in a why that makes sense? While you could just disable catching Pokémon as well, it... doesn't sound very satisfactory, and if you want to play as a different character you probably should have some battles too, otherwise you're... doing non-Pokémon things in the game, and that doesn't sound very interesting or relevant.

Besides, this is a remake. Most extras we got in previous were extra areas for side quests (FRLG's Sevii Islands and HGSS' route 45/Safari zone, etc), but with the plot only maybe some mixing up from previous games (ala HGSS, which both used things from GS and C). I don't imagine that playing as another character or more would happen in a game that is supposed to be a remake. Has more chance in a brand new game... and let's face it, Game Freak's plots need work to begin with.

This sounds very Explorers of Sky-esque, if you ask me o:

Anyway, as cool as it'd be to have a secondary story (or multiple side stories), I can't see them implementing it. As bobandbill pointed out, the only extra remakes usually get are extra areas, side quests, and maybe some mixing of plots. If GF's gonna include secondary stories, it'd be more plausible for them to include them in the main series than in remakes. At the most, I could only see the possibility of added backstory for certain characters.

    1. I would like a scenario where you constantly switch between the male and female protags. The one you DID NOT choose is signed up for Team Magma (Alpha) or Team Aqua (Omega). Spying, of course. You could play a much bigger role in the story because of this. You would also be able to access a mini PC which has 5 boxes which can be used to transfer, and you can switch at any time, unless you need to progress on the other side of the story - in which case, it would force you to stay in that one protag's POV.

    2. The trick master on his journey from RSE to learn and become better! Separate save file, or course. Not normal pokemon battling either - you have to get through basically a bunch of puzzles!

These both assume ORAS are distant-ish sequels to RSE.

If so then unfortunately those two scenarios can't happen considering that these are confirmed to be remakes and not sequels.

I was thinking, and have brought this up before; what if after the main story a couple of years pass and the player is tasked with preventing another big event. Maybe the opposite version's mascot has reawaken after the battle in Sootopolis (if they follow the Emerald scenario for the battle there) and is causing the sea to rise/ the sea level to go down depending on which version it is. Or maybe something else for a post game kind of secondary story.

This is an awesome idea that makes me really sad because of how doubtful I am of it coming to be. They seemed to be locked in to you playing as one character for the whole game which isn't cool if you ask me. They need to give some alternate storylines as the games get bigger to give the ultimate plots more depth.

This one could be another possibility of happening! And you get like capture the opposite version's mascot and its megastone perhaps?

I'd love for a secondary story, it would prolong the gameplay and probably make the games that little bit better. I've been thinking that maybe, just maybe we could travel to Kalos and have it tie in with the RSE storyline somehow.
