Note: This thread is on the heels of me sobbing for a half hour about the fate of my favorite character. So this is from the heart (still teary eyed; pray for me sweeties)
CHARACTERS. We love some, we hate some, and some we care so deeply about that we must call into question our ability to distinguish fiction from reality. You know the ones! So I'm wondering: What character are you most attached to? Why? Do you feel that identifying with / relating to a character can be healthy for one to explore and understand themselves further? Perhaps even motivate themselves? Or do you find it odd, obnoxious, or even detrimental to one's grasp on real world feelings/relationships?
This is like legit important to me I'm typing through tears trying to keep it together. Help me.
I'm using the Television prefix because I feel that long-term exposure to a character makes it easier to understand them (and gives writers more time to flesh them out), but by all means this can include characters from film, literature, video games... you name it!
OK ABOUT MY FAVE, I honestly doubt anyone on here has seen Person of Interest, but I just now got to catch up to the last season (primarily because I've been avoiding it out of fear of disappointment and/or closure that I wasn't ready for). Spoilers for anyone who cares:

Spoiler:
THEY KILLED MY PRECIOUS. ROOT WAS SO PURE AND WONDERFUL AND SHE DESERVED SO MUCH MORE. SHE WAS SO SAD AND WAS FINALLY ON THE VERGE OF FINDING THE HAPPINESS SHE DESERVED AND THEN SHE WAS SNATCHED OUT OF THIS WORLD.
I am legitimately maddened by this, for a few reasons. Firstly, out of all the characters on the show,
hers was the only arc that needed closure that wouldn't/couldn't be given to her in death. All of the other characters were established as "nearing the end of the line," but Root simply didn't get the closure she deserved. What's worse is they gave us a fucking glimpse of said closure, and then took it away. I'm like angry typing this, my keyboard hates me. Secondly, GAY. SHE WAS GAY. I have to start a thread on how important representation is but like I shipped her with Sameen so hard for years and then they made it canon and then killed her to avoid giving a same-sex couple a happy ending for once?
Like wtf what a cop out. AN INTERRACIAL SAME-SEX COUPLE. I WAS SO READY.
I'M BEHAVING LIKE A 10 YO FANBOY
WHY AM I RANTING NONE OF YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT
