  • My Shiny luck has been rotten this month, but Bank/Transporter recently became free so I took the opportunity to migrate some of my older Shinies to the 3D games (cloning anything I might want to keep using in the 2D games ahead of time). My Shiny pastry Quilava has finally joined my Shiny ice cream Vanillite in Kalos and my Shiny Servine has a new home in Alola. I also renewed my HOME subscription to see if any of my favorite Shinies transferrable to SWSH were "Glistening." Star sparkles from Magneton, star sparkles from Tyrogue, stars from Omanyte... it was looking grim, then Luxio did this:

  • It's been a pretty productive month for me. I got either 11 or 8 shinies depending on if the ones I caught today still count, as the announcement states:
"shinies caught between March 1st and March 31st".
Didn't notice that till now 😅

Shiny #1; March 2nd. Violet, Psychic Shiny Sandwich.
1st Flittle, which is now an Espathra:
    Spoiler:

Shiny #2; March 11th. Shield, Masuda Method breeding.
1st Level Ball Goomy, which is now a Sliggoo:
    Spoiler:

Shiny #3; March 16th. Shield, Masuda Method breeding.
2nd Level Ball Goomy, which is now a Goodra:
    Spoiler:

Shiny #4: Shield, March 18th. Masuda Method breeding.
3rd Level Ball Goomy, which stayed a Goomy:
    Spoiler:

Shiny #5; Shield, March 18th. Masuda Method breeding.
4th Level Ball Goomy, which was sent to Hisui to become a Hisuian Goodra:
    Spoiler:

Shiny #6; March 20th. Shield, Masuda Method breeding.
5th Level Ball Goomy which was sent to Hisui to become a Hisuian Sliggo:
    Spoiler:

Shiny Goomy #1: 2700 eggs. <--- My new record for longest breed for a single shiny =\
Shiny Goomy #2: 3750 eggs total.
Shiny Goomy #3: 4050 eggs total.
Shiny Goomy #4: 4050 eggs total, same batch of 150 as Goomy #3.
Shiny Goomy #5: 4650 eggs total.

Shiny #7; March 26th. Shield, Masuda Method breeding.
1st Heavy Ball Roggenrola, which is still a Roggenrola:
    Spoiler:

Shiny #8; March 28th. Shield, Masuda Method breeding.
2nd Heavy Ball Roggenrola, which is now a Gigalith:
    Spoiler:

    Shiny Roggenrola #1: 1500 eggs.
Shiny Roggenrola #2: 2250 eggs total.

Shiny #9: March 31st. Violet, all three were caught during the same Psychic Shiny Sandwich.
2nd Flittle, which is still a Flittle and has a Mark:
    Spoiler:

Shiny #10: March 31st. Violet, all three were caught during the same Psychic Shiny Sandwich.
1st Girafarig, which is still a Girafarig:
    Spoiler:

Shiny #11: March 31st. Violet, all three were caught during the same Psychic Shiny Sandwich.
2nd Girafarig which is now a Farigiraf:
    Spoiler:

Mandatory camp images for the shiny Goomy line:
    Spoiler:

Also an image from Legends Arceus for the two Hisuian ones out of their ball:
    Spoiler:

And finally a couple Picnic images for the Scarlet/Violet shinies:
    Spoiler:

No camp images for Roggenrola/Gigalith yet as I still need a 3rd Shiny Roggenrola for Boldore.

Gonna go pick a fight with the Mightiest Samurott while I'm in Violet and then back to Shield for Shiny Roggenrola #3!

  • Huge congrats to the participants of March Madness!! The results are in!

    ReKoil: 11
    Maserati777: 7
    TwilightBlade: 4
    VisionofMilotic: 1

It was a great contest, with 4 excellent contestants! ReKoil, congratulations! :pink_boogie: :boogie: :pink_boogie: :boogie: You'll be receiving a PM from VisionofMilotic to claim your prize!!

    Spoiler:

As for me, I've been staying with my parents for the past few months while I look for a new job, so I haven't actually set up my Switch here at home in Boston, haha! I've been playing some other games lately like LEGO Skywalker Saga, Civilization VI, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and Stellaris, but I'm really looking forward to playing the new Pokémon gen once I finally move into a new apartment and get my Switch set up again!!

  • I had absolutely no idea what you were talking about with the square shiny thing, so I looked it up, and OMG!!!! :pink_disbelief: That's so cool!! I had no idea that there was a new, even rarer form of shiny hunting now!!!!!!!!!!!1 :disbelief: That's super cool - I might just have to go on a square shiny hunt in one of the new games, "lol!"
The rates are set up a bit weird though. I'm sure this animation was meant to be the rarer variation, but many occasions have it flipped around, like standard wild encounters and Virtual Console transfers. Here's a chart that breaks down the odds: https://lincoln-lm.github.io/JS-Finder/Tools/SquareTable.html

Currently, these differences can only be seen in SWSH (Arceus and SV only have one sparkle animation). I can only assume that they dropped it because they botched the rates the first time around.

I haven't transferred all of my Shinies, and not all of my Shinies are even transferable to SWSH so I can check, but Akira (Luxio) and Codec (Porygon2) are my only 1/65,536's that I know of.

  • Hello, everyone! Time for my periodic check-in (read: stopping by once every few years). I hope all your hunts have been fruitful and will continue to be so.

I've picked up a fair amount of Shinies in my absence. Only three stand out as noteworthy, and only one would be accepted by SHC's classic rules:

<A random, unnamed Shiny Rotom at Mt. Coronet in PLA>
In the modern era, where Shiny rates are (or can be made) absolutely silly, this one stands out as being rare. The zone has only 2-3 natural spawn points for the Pokémon and refreshing them is tedious. I don't own a Switch, so the image below is an emulator screenshot.

    ~>{*Shiny Hunters Club}<~

    ---------------------------------------------
<Skichip, a chained Shiny Trapinch on Route 228 in Pearl>
PokéRadar Shinies are normally not worth mentioning, but anyone who's hunted Trapinch knows it's an exception — Route 228 is under a constant sandstorm that heavily impacts visibility, making this hunt a real test of focus. My chain broke not long after, leaving me with a single Shiny Trapinch. I didn't mind, but it would've been fun to give spares to friends.

    ~>{*Shiny Hunters Club}<~

    ---------------------------------------------
<Caradell, a random Shiny Swellow in the first room of Mistralton Cave in Black>
Alarm bells are probably going off in your head at this claim. The answer is simple — I was emulating a randomised copy of Black.

I caught Caradell at Lvl 31, so, were the ROM not randomised, he would've instead been a Boldore or Axew. I could determine which one of those two he was and fix the species with PKHeX, but something made me decide not to: many, many years ago, I had a dream where I encountered a gigantic Shiny Swellow on a mountainside rocky path. Now, at least a decade later, I ran into that exact Shiny in a cave. Even if it's naughty to leave the species alone, the coincidence was too good to ruin. I adjusted his encounter information and moveset to be normal, kept the Mistralton Cave "hatch" location as a keepsake, then transferred him to my Black cartridge.

    ~>{*Shiny Hunters Club}<~

    ---------------------------------------------
Wait, what's this? There's a fourth Shiny? I kept the best for last, ladies and gentlemen.

Old members may remember a very greedy hunt I embarked on in 2012. I wanted a specific nature, as many perfect (not necessarily 31) IVs as possible, and, for a particular reason I will explain after the picture, to get the Shiny in either Gen III or IV. Masuda Method does not exist in Gen III, so the best combination to hit all my goals was to breed in HeartGold/SoulSilver, which is exactly what I did. But there was a catch: Masuda Method is mutually exclusive with the Everstone in Gen IV, so the Shiny odds were still the full 1/8192!

And so an on-and-off (very much mostly off) hunt began; yesterday, 11 years of real time and around 600 hours of in-game time later, it finally ended. By my time measurements, I went through approximately 11077 eggs. I got the Shiny, the Everstone worked, and the two inherited IVs not controlled by my Power item were ones I wanted (missed out on 31 Speed but got 0 Defense and 31 Special Defense). Crazy!

    Here's the nearly-flawless success: <Kinza, the Lonely Shiny Nincada>

    ~>{*Shiny Hunters Club}<~

Continuing from before, here's the reason I chose Gen III/IV: these two gens have a glitch that gives Shedinja the Ninjask moves Nincada learns on the level it evolves. You can do this with every Ninjask move, but the relevant ones are Swords Dance (evolving at Lvl 25) and Baton Pass (evolving at Lvl 45). Sadly, Game Freak did not grandfather these moves into Shedinja's movepool in Gen V and beyond, so they trip hack checks; I won't be able to transfer my to-be Swords-Dance Shedinja to Gen VI unless I either inject it into a save (what I will do) or erase the offending move before sending it up (obviously not doing that, especially since I like keeping copies of my Pokémon in older gens).

Hopefully I didn't hog too much space with this post; I shrank the resolution of the images as much as I could while keeping them readable.

Thanks for reading and see you around!

  • First up the third Heavy Ball Roggenrola leftover from my Roggenrola breed from April, which has evolved into Boldore:
    Spoiler:

I definitely don't regret putting this breed on pause on March 31st in favor of getting some Sandwich shinies in Violet. I obtained my second Shiny Roggenrola @ 2250 eggs back in March.

Shiny Roggenrola #3: 4400 eggs total. Got it while I was still breeding up boxes during the first 50 eggs so I stopped breeding and just hatched what I already had =P
Definitely wouldn't have had that in 1 day on March 31st since I nearly doubled the egg count from Shiny Roggenrola #2 🙄

Camp image of the happy family, united at last:
    Spoiler:

After that I popped a Dream Ball Magmar into the Daycare with the intent of getting a single one shiny and evolving it into Magmortar. However after evolving the shiny Magby into Magmar and sending it to Legends so I can easily evolve it there by just using a Magmarizer on it omitting the need to trade, I looked at Magmar there before I evolved it and actually really liked it's shiny as well. So then I had to have two =P

    Spoiler:

    Shiny Magby #1: 750 eggs
Shiny Magby #2: 850 eggs total. Yep, it hatched while still breeding up my boxes in the round after the previous one. Gotta love a quick shiny breed =D

Camp image of the pink fire types:
    Spoiler:

If I were to breed a Shiny Magby to keep as a Magby I'd want it in a different ball so this shiny breed is done, given that this line is not one I consider a favorite.
I merely bred both Magmar and Magmortar in a Dream Ball because someone showed me a shiny Dream Ball Magmortar once and I've wanted it ever since =P

Anyway, next shiny hunt will be Safari Ball Eevee so I can finally knock off one of the two eeveelutions I still need to shiny breed: Leafeon.

  • Thanks everyone for participating in some March Madness! It was super exciting see all these dazzling shinies from g-money to icycatelf, twilightblade, Runasutaru and maserati777 throughout spring.

When the shiny hunters club won club of the season G-Money the prize was a choice of shiny pokemon. G kindly opted to gift that opportunity to a member for the recent contest, instead of taking any pokemon for himself. Writing to let everybody know about his generous workings and that Rekoil has since chosen a cool shiny Trevenant for his prize. The white and amber tree now resides with him.

While we are talking ghost pokemon. I wanted to add that I caught myself a shiny dusclops a little while ago. I wasn't even synchronizing, but it has an ideal impish nature. For now i call it Red Lantern, inspired by the film Raise the Red Lantern.

    ~>{*Shiny Hunters Club}<~

Trying to decide whether it should evolve into Dusknoir or stay a Dusclops. Dusclops has better defenses with eviolite. Dusknoir has the leeway to hold other items though and has better attack stats. Dusclops has a red shiny that's more bold, Dusknoir is subtler and kinda gray blue. Which way do i go?

I think you should focus on preferred appearance alone. Pokémon Showdown is far more accessible than cart for competitive play (especially when it comes to older gens), and I doubt Dusclops vs Dusknoir will make a difference in Battle facilities (unless you're pushing for a high streak, in which case I doubt Dusknoir will be good enough).

The bold red of Duskull/Dusclops is unusual and truly striking; Dusknoir's blue is just a soft tint. Personally, I'd have no doubts about keeping it unevolved.

  • A mere 800 eggs and I now have a shiny Leafeon in a Safari Ball =D

    Spoiler:

I stopped at 50 eggs during that round as I got the above Eevee while breeding up my first box. And then the game gave me another one while hatching those eggs:
    Spoiler:

Idk why, but this is the 4th time the game has given me an additional shiny Eevee while breeding for only one.
The first one was a second shiny Sport Ball eevee, which I gave away in the Trade Corner.
Second one was a second shiny Dream Ball eevee, which has been successfully given away through the Eeveelution club.
Third one is a second shiny Level Ball Eevee, which I kept and I do not consider spare simply so I can have both a normal shiny eevee and a G-max shiny eevee :coolcat:
And now it gave me a second shiny Safari Ball Eevee @_@

Anyway one more eeveelution to shiny breed now. But I'm gonna put that on hold as my mind can't held too much eevee abandonment eevee shiny breeding in a row.
Gonna go do one of my favorite mons from gen 8 instead =D

  • I recently went through a situation similar to yours, ReKoil.

Less than a week ago, I decided I wanted an Adamant, No Guard, Shiny Midnight Lycanroc. After S.O.S. chaining a Steadfast Rockruff, it was time to — in typical Ru fashion — visit Paniola Ranch and crack open some eggs. Many, many eggs.

The first Shiny, Kaerra, popped up in no more than 30 eggs and rolled Keen Eye; it was so early I didn't even have my final parents set up. The second one, Sebeul, arrived roughly 700-900 eggs after Kaerra and also rolled Keen Eye. Both hatchlings were given to friends, leaving me empty-handed.

My perseverance carried me onward. While listening to Ayreon's The Source, I swore I'd name the next Shiny after Sirrah, the star that gets name-dropped in the album's storyline, if the pup hatched during the video's runtime.

Well, not even 24 hours after Sebeul's arrival, the stars aligned!

  • Randomly bumped into a shiny Murkrow in Violet while heading towards the Auctions after doing the Chesnaught 7 star raid.
Figured I might as well post all my random shinies from Violet so far; random as in I didn't hunt for them but just ran into them.

  • Wrapped up my Shiny Moon Ball Indeedee hunt today. Indeedee is one of my all time favorite Pokemon. I mean just look at these two precious Pokemon :fufu:

    Spoiler:

First indeedee hatched in my first round of 150 eggs, second one the day after in the next batch. However both were Male and I wanted both forms... so on I pressed.
Today at a total of 1.800 eggs hatched I was blessed by the Female Indeedee as well. I did not know Indeedee's egg steps were on par with that of a pseudo's when I started this hunt, but it could've been far worse.
I was dreading having potentially hatched like 8 shiny male ones and like a total egg count in the tens of thousands before it would give me the other form shiny.

    Spoiler:

The first and third shiny Indeedee inherited the HA too :coolcat:

    Two camp images:

  • It was nearing 1 AM on the 3rd of June. In hopes of undergoing the time-honoured tradition of Pooching yourself acquiring a Shiny Hoenn starter, I'd been blasting A+B+START+SELECT four times a minute on Ruby for long enough to reach around 9000-10000 resets. While squeezing in "just a few more attempts" after turning off my PC — all the while being a lapse of focus away from falling asleep — I got startled awake by unusual visuals and sound. The time had come: Shiny Treecko!

    ~>{*Shiny Hunters Club}<~

I don't have any interest in Shiny Mudkip, and, should I ever resume my ancient Shiny Torchic hunt (Hatching eggs on Emerald. I wonder if anyone still remembers that?), I won't be seeing any wild Pokémon. For better or worse, I have escaped the hazing ritual of the golden pooch!

  • I'm dumbfounded. I was setting up a breeding factory for catching machines — Lvl 1 Spore + False Swipe + Substitute Shroomish — when one of my dream Shinies randomly popped up...

    ...From non-Masuda breeding.
Late enough in my planning to pick up Spore (parents both know it) and False Swipe (egg move).
    With the right ability.
With Everstone successfully passing down Impish nature.
With an IV spread of 31/31/12/19/29/15.

This is the second hatched 1/8192 Shiny this year. Complete madness!

  • I've been on an Ice type shiny breeding spree.

First I went for 2 Heavy Ball Galarian Mr. Mimes, which I lucked out with as they hatched really early =D
A total of 175 eggs to get both =3

    Spoiler:

After which it was time to move on to breeding two Sport Ball Snoms.
A total of 1.300 eggs to get both.

    Spoiler:

And today I got to wrap up the shiny breed after that: two Dream Ball Smoochums =)
    A total of 1.100 eggs.

    Spoiler:

    Naturally, some camp images :fufu:

Wow — so many Ice-types, so quickly! They look adorable in your Camp shots.

    ---------------
Recently, I've learnt of a community-run event called Safari Week. I didn't participate (don't know if I ever will), but bracing yourself for failure and going all-in on the Safari Zone at random points of the year? That sounds fun! I've always been very conservative, hunting mainly via eggs, so I've never failed a Shiny. With all these years of hunting under my belt, I thought I may as well change things up. First, I had to prepare — if you're going hunting, you may as well do so in style, right?

    ~>{*Shiny Hunters Club}<~

This was exactly what I wanted! Chinchou for the uniqueness of the Shiny, and Illuminate for the heightened encounter rate.

Very importantly, I learnt something rather obscure during this hunt: only in HG/SS, having a following Pokémon with 150+ happiness makes every rod use a guaranteed hook! Say goodbye to your Sticky Hold/Suction Cup users, folks. Combine this with a fainted lead (in my case, a Pikachu with Static) and you can have your cake and eat it too. What a neat quirk!

  • Finished off my Love Ball Alolan Vulpix shiny breed like 4 days ago when the second one hatched. Despite taking half a month I only bred 1.650 total eggs. Busy times =\

    Spoiler:

On the same day that second shiny Alolan Vulpix hatched I bumped into a Tsareena by accident in the wild area while I was still hatching Alolan Vulpix eggs.... guess what:
    Spoiler:

Only had my breeding Coalossal on me as the rest of my party was unhatched eggs. Let the hail whittle Tsareena down and just kept chucking balls =P
Eventually caught it with a Timer Ball =D

Next I popped a Heavy Ball Cubchoo into the Nursery, intending to only breed one as I already caught one a long time ago in the wild in Shield.
But after seeing the shiny Cubchoo hatch I finished up filling my last box, as it was almost full anyway.... I started emptying my boxes out again and hatched a second shiny Cubchoo in my last batch of 5 xD

    Spoiler:

The second one hatched after midnight and received the next day as it's hatch date. A mere 300 eggs and I ended up with two of them @_@
