    The forums would become more interesting with a rep system and getting awarded stars under your name for a specific number of posts
    Most forums got both or 1 of those features
    They would be a nice new change

    For example 50 posts = 1 bronze star
    100 = 2 silver stars
    500 = 3 silver stars
    1000 = 4 gold stars
    Well you get the point

    As for rep system other members +1 you for useful posts
    You could keep the likes system too

    And besides id look cool with gold stars under my name

    On PC, we're trying to work towards the view that post count is just a number, not a measure of how good you are in any way. So I'm not sure your first suggestion would be a good thing since it might counteract that view of ours a bit :3 Maybe some kind of new standard usertitles could be worked on though, which change depending on post count? I think we've had that before.

    As for rep, it's been here before, several times, and in the end it was deemed not to be a good idea. Only chance it would return is probably if a vast majority of members thought it would be a good idea. Maybe ^^
     
    If you find a useful post, you can already +1 it, that's why we have a "likes" system.

    Reputation only caused drama and fights between cliques to make theirs larger and sabotage their enemies'. Better not get there again.

    As for the post count the stars or custom titles as Doctor said would be a nice addition and i dont think they would cause any drama
    Would love to see stars more than titles though

    IMHO, to me that would make me feel inferior.
    Imagine you're new and have 0 stars. Then you look around and see someone with 20 stars. That can be kind of intimidating. :p

    I agree with Went there, we had reputation in the past but it all came out with negative results so it was scrapped. I don't think it should ever get re-implemented, because I have a feeling it would turn dramatic like it did before.
     
    what about people like me who are old and yet have like 500 posts coz we like to lurk and see other people who joined in a month and have 1000 posts coz they keep spamming up in the easy sections? It seems too darn hurtful for the oldies here :(

    We had default titles that vary with postcount for many years. No one used them unironically so they were eventually removed, with the 'reset' checkbox in the user CP repurposed to allow blank titles.

    I don't mean to be abrasive, but lurking = noncontribution, so what regard does that deserve? Even if these spammy people don't post anything meaningful, they are at least making this place a forum of some kind. You're certainly free to be here, but if you don't join in much what do you honestly expect?
     
    I would like the idea of having some sort of points system that would be a general barometer of a member's overall esteem within the site...some sort of mathematical calculation such as:

    [postcount + profile views + (3 x liked posts) + user rank bonus*1] x seniority factor*2
    (*1 0 for regular members, 20 x rank for supporters, 150 for moderators, 300 for S-mods, 400 for admins, and 500 for Steve/Kwesi)
    (*2 # of years as a member)

    ..but I'm just some guy, the admins would never take my suggestion seriously. XD

    Uhm, no. Not even the postcount things will be a good addition to the forum. There's several areas on PC where posts do NOT get counted. Trade Shops is especially noteworthy for that. If you're a person who often posts in forums like Trade Corner, your post count will be heavily skewed towards nothingness. See my liddle post count to the right? Add another say, thousand to that for all my old posts in TC. Know what I'm getting at?

    (You probably don't. Usually the TC/BC regs are the only ones who do because they're used to how I type.)

    Aaaaaand my point has just been thoroughly quashed by the newest small update.

    I've seen both of these combined and they don't work well. Rep system causes drama with repping and de-repping and it turns into friends repping other friends for the most part, and that's about it.

    Also, if you put too much emphasis on post count, it'll cause people to start spamming for Post count. And we already have enough useless posts as it is at times.
     
    We've established that rep is just drama waiting to happen. I've actually seen someone leave a forum because somebody with a grudge against her rounded up people to downvote all her posts as a method of harassment. That's a worst-case scenario, but it can and does happen.

    The star system just sounds like a way to encourage people to spam or make trash posts to increase their post count. The best discussion happens without incentive.

    On topic, How about a similar system to WAH? you get points for each post and you level up these points can be used in a store were you can buy icons for you name ?
