Nintendo Switch 2 revealed in first-look trailer

A Nintendo Direct on the system will happen on the 2nd of April. We also saw a new Mario Kart track… maybe a new title?
Kinda hoping that the asterisk on the backwards compatibility doesn't exclude too many games. Will save data and digital game transfer between Switch 1 and Switch 2 be a (easy to do) thing?
My assumption is that games that wholly depend on the layout of the OG Switch, such as the Ring Fit or the Nintendo Labo, are referred to by that asterisk.
I swapped out my OG Switch for an OLED, and the transfer was seamless, so it will probably be the same for the Switch 2- otherwise, Nintendo is gonna lose a lot of prospective customers.

Another thing too is the IR sensor on the bottom of the right Joy-Con. If a game requires that, it probably won't work with the Switch 2, as it wasn't visible on either of the new Joy-Cons in the trailer.

On a personal level I'm sad to see how big the joycons are. The current design of joycons are so perfect for my small hands. These new ones spread the buttons out enough that I think it might end up feeling as awful to me as the Wii remotes did where you just can't hit most of the buttons on it. :'(

As a counterpoint to this, holy shit joycons that might fit in my hands!

Am mostly meh, but this is Nintendon't; there was not much to expect there.

Expected it to look a little more different. Is not complaining. Liked the Switch. Improved the kickstand (maybe), which is nice.

Misses the more colorful controllers. Gave it a better visual than 98% black.
On the one hand I'm somewhat bummed. On the other hand, we all know at some point they're gonna release the Piñata Colorful Edition. For about the same price tag or higher. The S1 already didn't have that much variability but at least with the S2 patterns a more consistent look is provided; the first S1 joycons felt like pastel / birthday cake finish on a selva negra tbh.

I don't care how much it is I'm getting one the moment I'm able! That design looks so sick, I hope it feels as good as it looks!

[PokeCommunity.com] Switch 2 officially announced!!

Absolutely insane to me that they switched out the slide-in functionality of the controllers for whatever this is. Kids are going to immediately snap that connector that's on the console itself and then the whole thing needs to be repaired. How on earth is this the approved final design? Wild. Wild!!!!
That's part of the plan, silly! Nintendon't will continue to try and milk people (and creators) for all it's worth, and much like with phones, having to replace the whole thing means they can add you an extra price tag on the replacement. And people will love it and eat it, on silly like the other quoted post.

I'm admittedly not sold on the Switch 2's shown information so far but what unsolds me the most (apart from the obvious reset of the DRM / compatibility race) is the S2's physical size. The first one was already a bit too large to be practical as a handheld - no possibility to bag carry on a bus or train ride, for one, and unlike the 3DS neither Switch seems to have slots for safety straps. We hit peak portability with the 3DSXL, I think, and there's probably no way to go back to that. Seems to me like S2 is more intended as a Return to Docked than anything else.

And frankly, between the shown specs and format info, and already since the time of the rumors and leaks, I'm kinda appalled that Nintendon't would dare to release this when the Steam Deck literally exists. Bu who knows, maybe there's still time for the company to pull up a whole plot twist. Hope's the last thing one loses.

Given the "Nintendo Revolution" -> "Nintendo Wii" in times of yore I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch 2 ends up being named the Super Switch or something.
I don't think that'll be the case. When they went from Wii to Wii U, there were people out there that didn't realize that the Wii U was a completely new console and just thought it was an upgrade for the OG Wii console. This time around they've taken a page from Sony and just used a numerical indicator to show that this is a newer version of the console, similar to how movies do this as well. It'll be a lot less confusion for consumers. Using the "Super" moniker could be a fun idea, but the issue is that there's people here that will be getting the system that are younger than the SNES, so they won't understand the comparison being made here.

Like with the original Switch, I'm not buying it until a must-have game for the new system is released (for the OG, it was Atelier Lulua, which came out over two years after the release of the Switch, so I'm perfectly fine with waiting.) No point in upgrading just for the sake of upgrading when my OLED Switch is barely over a year old.

It's about what I expected, though it would be nice for some specs to be mentioned in the video instead of just a bunch of those close up "dramatic" shots of the exterior of the device. Hell, I learned more about that new Mario Kart game than about the actual console. Is the Home screen customizable? How big is the onboard hard drive storage? Processor power? I suppose we have to wait.

Also, compared with the OLED kickstand, the one on the Switch 2 looks flimsy. Not as bad as the OG Switch kickstand, mind you, but that thing was almost useless..

I'll probably get one eventually, though it's not a priority for me.
