Team Allocation

So, last year the way we divided teams kind of bit us in the ass because we ended up with one team mostly comprised of people who weren't driven and one team that was almost entirely driven people. I'm thinking that perhaps it might be better if this year we really just make sure teams were evenly split and at random. Thoughts?

I think a quiz would still be cool, but mostly on a aesthetic etc. basis. I know during the feedback last year we had mentioned about perhaps having it assign something I guess akin to a partner Pokémon (á la PMD), which we could then tie into VPP?

That's dependent of course on workload for the VPP team because... adding several Pokémon into that I can't imagine is fun! Could also do the same in Discord - assign icon roles with said Pokémon in and such.

But ultimately, I think random assignment would be good, at least then if the teams still have the same issues as previous it's truly down to them and not us xd.

It doesn't give us even teams yeah but it made it fun :pensive:

Gonna throw this out too on how Art Fight did their thing, they made like a form last time for the early birds to "choose" their preferred group (but not saying their stuff is guaranteed). The rest of the people who are settled in are then split equally. It's a bit more work but if we wanna give people some chance to go into a preferred team

But keeping it simple's good too I'm absolutely fine with that

To clarify here, I guess I mean I still want the quiz for the above, but want people assigned randomly.

unfortunately, i don't think there's anything that we can ever do to fix imbalance between a motivated and an unmotivated team when it comes to point distribution. the two team format is still the best way to go because with three you get two teams and one underdog, or four teams you get two excellent teams and two underdogs.

i liked it when we had the algorithm that balanced members (can't remember which gt that was sadly!)

random assignment is probably the best way to go about it! maybe we can appoint "team leads" so to speak to keep others motivated in posting and participating that are not part of the management team, and rotate them around if they start to fall back?

if we're doing random assignment, can we be smart about it and provide that illusion of choice to players we know active? e.g maybe have the "quiz" be a little bit earlier to know who's gonna be super into gt and balance them out first thing.

also marcin mentioned quiz but still random assignment and i think that's a neat idea

We've already set it at two teams.

This was idea that was floated a few times post-GT last year. I'm not against it at all. Perhaps people who volunteered to help with the running of the GT can handle that.

I like Aaron's idea of a "quiz" to assign an aesthetic thing - a paradox partner perhaps - while still doing a random 50/50 split for the actual teams. That seems simple enough to accomplish while dealing with the issues from last year and still keeping a fun quiz thing. Let's do that. Is there anyone who could possibly start on setting that up soon?

Team Leads, or I guess hype-people, would be great! Don't want to make it so formal that like people feel it's a job/role they have to take on an ultimately it dampens the GT for them, but I know some people over the years do naturally just fill in gap, or want to and maybe feel they can't go all the way, so it would be good to almost give people 'permission' to do that as it were.

Could easily just 'recruit' for them when we do our EO post.

i too like it a lot but just gonna clarify; like the result would be an actual paradox partner ala pmd style (your partner is skitty!)? i think i can set that up early next week 🙏

yeah definitely not too formal that they'd think of it as a job (formal "enough" that maybe they have a tiny role for it in the discord
recruitment for eo works best but can't help but think of potential problems like recruiting them and them not being "hype" enough for it
