I didn't find a thread about this, so apologies if this discussion already happened.

We have all been in this situation before, I'm sure:

You've been playing this game. It took ages. It put your patience to the test. It could be the game you never finished as a child, because it was simply too hard. You have a fire inside you now, and it is telling you to finish what you started. You reach the farthest point you have ever been before, and you march right past it. The adrenaline is going, you're getting excited. You've never been here and it's entirely new territory that must be conquered. The final goal, the final destination, is as close as it has ever been.

And then, you see it. It's the final boss. It was such a difficult road and it ends right here. Right now. You somewhat panic. This has to be the most difficult test that this game will throw at you. Surely, you will fail a few times. Surely, you will be taken for the ride of your life.

Surely... You will... Defeat it in moments without difficulty.

    Credits roll.

    Fin.

You're stunned. It was all a lie. This ending was the most anti-climatic of endings. You're crushed. In the end, this game beat you.

So, tell me, everyone: What was the most disappointing final boss battle/ending of your entire video gaming experience?

Definitely Bioshock Infinite for me. Maybe it was just me, but I was very unhappy with the way things ended. Or at the very least, it really made me think about everything that had just happened. Without giving spoilers for anyone who wants to still play this game without being ruined, basically it builds up to a point where it takes a very, very unexpected twist near the end. Then again, knowing Kevin Levine - the person who wrote the first Bioshock, I guess I really shouldn't have been too surprised with how he really messes with your mind.

Am I being contradictory? I feel like I'm being contradictory haha.

Most Megaman bosses really, especially Megaman 2 and Megaman 3.

Megaman 2 is just an alien floating around shotting 1 bullet every like 10 seconds. And it can only be hurt by Bubblemans weapon.

Megaman 3, you need to send like 3 Hard Knuckles to the head, then just use Top Spin to 1 hit KO the boss for some reason.

Bioshock Infinite blew me away at the end, but yeah, I kind of did experience the "...are you kidding me?" feeling.

Megaman never disappointed me, but I sort of knew what to expect.

The game that inspired this thread for me was Gradius III. The final boss severely upset me.

I would say Mario, but just that feeling of satisfaction when, after 9 years, I finally beat it.

I would have to say Street Fighter 2. I played the version on the Snes, so I didn't get the special ending from the arcade version.

Mario Bros. 2 was honestly a huge cluster of "What?!" and "WHY?!"

I still play it, though. Levitating Princess Peach and throwing vegetables at my enemies enraptures me.

I was talking about the original. I agree with you on 2 though, that ending sucked.

I wasn't 100% sure which one, as I view just "Mario" as any game from the franchise, but you're right about the original. It's still satisfying even after beating it several times.

On the same subject as Mario, what about Mario Sunshine? I mean...final boss is Bowser...in a large bathtub. Like...really Nintendo?

I laughed entirely too hard when this happened. I had to pause the game and have a moment because of that realization. Bath Time with Bowser! Surely, this will be safe and appropriate!

The ending of Assassin's Creed 3 has to be the most anticlimactic ending for me...

    Spoiler:

On another note with mario sunshine when they talk about how bowser jr knew peach wasn't actually his mother the entire time upset me. It took me years to finish that game and it was all pointless because little bowser captured peach because she was his mom when he knew she wasn't and ughhh the whole thing just made me kind of mad.

    Spoiler:
It almost sounds as if they put that game out of its misery. D: Kind of depressing, really.

    okamiden's final boss was ridiculous.

the enemies and game pause when you attack with the paintbrush, so i just repeatedly did that and he never really had a chance to attack. it was too easy, some of the early enemies/bosses gave me more trouble.

Ugh, the final boss that poses absolutely no challenge. This was exactly what I was talking about. Gradius III ended sort of like that. In fact, Bacterion, the final boss, inevitably kills himself! You don't even have to do anything beyond dodging his obscenely slow attacks. It was so bad! XD

Metal Gear Solid 2 said at the end "Everything you did was for nothing, we were just ♥♥♥♥ing with you. This was just training. Oh and your girl is pregnant, except that's not really your girl. And ♥♥♥♥ you."

I'm normally not one to complain about endings since I don't care but jesus christ, MGS2 was a mind♥♥♥♥.

That's... That's just a big, heaping sack of "NOPE!"

Obviously I'm exaggerating, but by the end of the game everything you did was basically the lie, and the ending is supposed to tell you "IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT WASN'T REAL, THAT'S NEVER THE POINT". Yeah, whatever game. I mean, it is a good ending, but not because of you, but because of Solid Snake doing ♥♥♥♥ in the background.

And Raiden ended as a blank state of a character. Instead of developing, the game basically told him to change completely in the end, and he's like "okay". Though I guess I'm grateful for that, because the Raiden in MGS4 and especially Rising is badass, not incompetent.

Achieving a good ending in Sonic CD was a rather difficult task, especially if you go the Time Stone collecting route. When I defeated Robotnik for the final time, I was a bit disappointed at how simple and anticlimactic it actually was. It's like all of the creative energy they used to make the game was completely spent leading up to the point, and so the creators looked around the office for an idea and saw their ceiling fan.

Sonic's face in that photo: "You f***ing with me right now, Eggman?"

    Even he's disappointed.

I've honestly never gotten into the Metal Gear series. Didn't have the opportunity as a kid, and never mustered the willpower to try since. I've been considering it, too. But that sounds irritating. I really despise the concept of, "JK LOL!" in any game or movie.

I will still give it a shot eventually.
    Any recommendations?
