Let's Go Exploring!
Auria is a beautiful place with lots of things to see. It also has a beautiful, ancient culture, a wide variety of Pokemon, and of course many mysteries. So then, what are you waiting for? Go explore it and experience for yourself everything Auria has to offer!
As a resident of the region, there are many things you can do. You can travel, sight-see, challenge the Pokemon league, solve the mysteries of Auria's past, or discover and learn more about Auria's unique Delta Pokemon! The various actions you have the option to take will allow you to properly experience Auria, and even achieve your legacy in the region by being the first to discover a Delta species or charting new unexplored sectors of the region! The possibilities are literally endless.
Traveling
At any time, you may [travel] to a location adjacent to your current location. This will take time, normally between 2 and 5 days depending on the physical distance between the two locations, and how harsh the conditions are on the path between the two locations (e.g. if there is a blizzard taking place on a certain route, if it requires traversing mountains, etc.) Once you arrive at your destination, you will receive an update notifying you of your arrival, as well as a post providing the following information about the location:
- A brief description of the location and its current events at the time of your arrival.
- A listing of the Pokemon native to the area (if applicable. Also note that "swarms" aren't uncommon. Seasonal habitat shifts also tend to happen, so don't assume that the Pokemon native to an area will always be the same at any given time!)
- A list of notable trainers currently in the area (user created or NPC).
- Actions that can be taken at the location. These actions are specific to the area and the current events taking place therein. More on these in a minute.
Actions
Once you've arrived at a location, there are various actions you can take there. You can take a total of three actions at a location. After that, you'll need to either [travel] or [rest] to get a new set of actions. The following are common actions:
- [catch] Allows you to attempt to catch a particular Pokemon indigenous to the area. (1% chance of finding a Delta)
- [random encounter] Allows you to have a random encounter with a Pokemon indigenous area. (10% chance of finding a Delta)
- [explore] Allows you to explore a nearby cave (not all cities or routes have nearby cave entrances. To know all of the places where cave entrances are located, you can purchase a Cave Map from Arcadia City). Forests can also be explored, though they're not quite as common in Auria as caved.
- [shop] If you're at a location that has a shop or vendor, you can make purchases using Pokedollars. You can also sell items to select vendors.
- [travel] Travel to a new location adjacent to your current location. This will take time, depending on the physical distance between the two locations, and how harsh the conditions are on the path between the two locations = (e.g. if there is a blizzard taking place on a certain route, if it requires traversing mountains, etc.)
- [rest] If you do this, then instead of traveling, you'll remain in your current location. Time will pass, and you will receive an update on the location's current events and happenings etc, just as if you had traveled to the location (except you remain in the same place). Resting only takes two days.
- (Other Actions): There are other actions that you can take that are unique to a location and the events that happen to be taking place in it at the time. For example, arriving in Cleargate City may result in: "[rebuild] to help Ulrich in his efforts to rebuild Cleargate City"
- Custom actions: Feeling spontaneous? Custom actions are exactly what they sound like: actions you can take that are completely custom. Just give a sentence describing what your trainer does, and see what happens! Sometimes it may turn out in your favor, other times it may not. "Have Hitmonchan use Rock Smash on a cave wall to see if there's a secret passageway", "Have Vivillon use Sweet Scent" "Publicly accuse the shady guy sitting in the corner of the inn of being a Team Void member" are all valid custom actions. Custom actions consume all three of your actions for that location.
Exploring
There are lots of caves to explore in Auria. Whenever there's one nearby, you can take the [explore] action, at which point you'll enter the cave. In caves, you can battle wild Pokemon, discover mysterious artifacts, or even occasionally encounter legendary Pokemon. Exploration works as follows:
Survival Gear:
In order to explore a cave, you must have survival gear on hand. Survival gear can be purchased at most shops across the region. It consists of the following items:
water bottle
food supply
flashlight
sleeping bag
portable heating lamp
escape rope (optional)
If any of the essentials (all but the escape rope) are missing, you will not be able to enter a cave. So if you're looking to explore a cave, you'll have to purchase the proper gear first. The escape rope isn't essential, but it'll make your life much easier when exploring caves as it will allow you to exit the cave instantly once you're ready to leave.
Floors:
Caves in Auria are large and complex. As such, a cave will have multiple floors. Some smaller caves have around 3 floors, but larger caves can have as many as 15 or more. Proceeding to the next floor (or backtracking to the previous one) will consume one [travel] action. Each floor is considered its own location, and as such, you'll receive all the standard information you'd receive when you enter a location, such as indigenous Pokemon, actions you can take, etc. It's worth noting that each floor may have a unique set of Pokemon available.
Discoveries
There are different types of discoveries you can make. Of them there are two major types:
Delta Pokemon:
Delta Pokemon are a unique phenomenon to the Auria region--they're rare Pokemon with alternate typings and divergent behavioral, and in many cases, biological traits. However, little is known about them and many are still undiscovered. If you happen to find and catch a Delta Pokemon in the wild, you will be credited in the Deltadex as being the one to have originally discovered it! Upon discovering a Delta, you will receive a Pokedex description of it, its alternate typing, its traits, and other things that set it apart from its non-delta counterparts. The more you travel with a Delta Pokemon, the more information that will be filled into its Deltadex entry.
Artifacts:
When exploring caves, you may come across mysterious items, such as a gem, an orb, an interesting looking stone, etc. These are known as artifacts. They may have some significance or effect. For example, it might be the key to unlocking a hidden area in a cave, it might be a hold item that causes your Pokemon to level up faster, or it might just be an artifact that gives some insight into some of the events of Auria's past and have no effect beyond that. In order to find out what an artifact does, you can [research] it if you're in a town that has a research institute. Once you've chosen the [research] action, you will be given all the information that the institute of your choice was able to provide. However, there's no guarantee that every research institute will be able to provide information on the artifact you're interested in. In general, the deeper within the caves it was found, the more work it'll take to research.
Alternatively, you can always experiment on an artifact yourself using your custom actions.
Research Institutes
The following is a list of research institutes where where you can [research] artifacts that you find in your adventures:
Arcadia Seismology and Oceanography Lab:
Located in: Arcadia City
They study the seismic activity in the region, and monitor the oceans via an underwater sonar array. They're always happy to accept any questions that adventurers may have about artifacts they find on their journey, as it assists in their research. Generally, they can provide the most insight on stones. Their primary method of research is analyzing the energy signature of an artifact, so most often they will be able to tell you whether or not a stone has a hidden power of some kind. Sometimes they'll immediately know what an artifact is, but you'll most often have to wait a few days before you receive the lab's test results.
Professor Spruce's Lab:
Located in: Route 401, just north of Floacea Town
Professor Spruce specializes in the Delta phenomenon. If you suspect that an artifact is related to the Delta phenomenon in any way, Professor Spruce is who you should go to. She's quite a busy woman though, and multitasking isn't her strong suit, so it may be a week or so before she gets around to it. But she's very intelligent and reliable, so it may be worth the wait.
Cleargate Library:
Located in: Cleargate City
The library in Cleargate City is the largest library in the region. You'll find all kinds of information here. Researching at the library works a little different from going to a lab and asking an expert to study it for you. When you choose to [research] at a library, you will receive information from books that will give general information, but you'll have to draw your own conclusions about the artifact from the information you're given. In addition, you can [research] an artifact at a library multiple times and get new information each time. Researching at a library is good for adventurers who want to gain more advanced knowledge on an artifact, or who suspect that there may be more to an artifact than what the experts say there is. Always keep in mind that the experts don't know everything!
Battles
If you want to battle another trainer, you can do so on the World of PC battle server. Battles can take place either between two trainers who happen to be in the same location, or between a gym leader and a trainer who is present in the gym leader's town. All battles will result in a gain of EXP, and occasionally a transfer of prize money.
Prize Money:
When two trainers battle, they first agree on an amount of prize money that the victor will receive from the losing party. In the case of trainer battles, this is entirely optional--trainers can battle just for fun, if they prefer. In the case of gym battles, the winner will automatically receive a sum of money according to the following (when the player loses, they forfeit 1/4 this amount):
1st gym:

This amount is paid by the Pokemon League, not the gym leader :) Be careful, gym leaders! Losing too often may result in demotion by the league.
