Dragonite doesn't look as majestic as its prevolutions, but it gets my upvote nevertheless.
My favorite training spot was a double battle with a young couple to the east of Vermillion City, who use a lv55 Nidoking and Nidoqueen, really easy to train lower level Pokémon along if you had a strong Pokémon with Surf or Blizzard (got a level 97 Articuno thanks to them). I used to train all my Pokémon there, without keeping EVs in mind, completely messing up my special sweepers.
Aww... that sucks. I personally wouldn't really recommend the PTCGO though. There are too many new cards that bend the basic rules and a game basically lasts only six turns if you're not out of Pokémon earlier. It's crazy how fast set-up goes nowadays. I understand they want to make the new cards stronger than the old ones, but they've taken it too far in my opinion, I prefer an older era.

Yeah it kinda is, but good thing there's a training spot in Island 1 in FR, the one outside the spa, it had 4 trainers and are kinda high-levelled, also good for EV Training in Attack :D

I'm fortunate that I kept all my old cards, except for a handful that I know I'm missing. My problem is that I can't find anyone to play against. Any friends I have around me that like Pokemon don't play the TCG and have no interest in it, so I'm also left with only the GBC game to play.
I would do PTCGO, but it just seems like getting into the TCG now (after not being in it for so long) will require a lot of dedicated time I don't have right now. Which is a shame, because I do really want to get back into it.
